The paper proposes the median filter based Retinex algorithm to detect the lanes in a foggy image. Whether an input image is foggy or not is determined by analyzing the histogram in the pre-defined ROI(Region of Interest). If the image is determined as a foggy one, then it is improved by the median filter based Retinex algorithm. By replacing the Gaussian filter by the median filter in the Retinex algorithm, the processing time can be reduced and the lane features can be detected more robustly. Once the enhanced image is acquired, the binarization based on multi-threshold and the labeling operations are applied. Finally, it detects the lane information using the size and direction parameters of the detected lane features. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated by using various foggy images collected on different road conditions to prove that it detects lanes more robustly in most cases than the conventional methods.

Many libraries utilize RFID tags for checking in and out of books. However, the recognition rate of this automatic process may depend on the orientation of antennas and RFID tags. Therefore we need supplemental systems to improve the recognition rate. The proposed algorithm sets up the ROI of the book existing area from the input image and then performs Canny edge detection algorithm to extract edges of books. Finally Hough line transform algorithm allows to detect the number of books from the extracted edges. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we applied our method to 350 book images under various circumstances. We then analyzed the performance of proposed method from results using recognition and mismatch ratio. The experimental result gave us 97.1% accuracy in book counting.

A ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance System) for the safe driving is an important area in autonumous car. Specially, a ADAS software using an image sensors attached in previous car is low in building cost, and utilizes for various purpose. A algorithm for detecting the break-lamp from the tail-lamp of preceding vehicle is proposed in this paper. This method can perceive the driving condition of preceding vehicle. Proposed method uses the YOLO techinicque that has a excellent performance in object tracing from real scene, and extracts the intensity variable region of break-lamp from HSV image of detected vehicle ROI(Region Of Interest). After detecting the candidate region of break-lamp, each isolated region is labeled. The break-lamp region is detected finally by using the proposed selective-attention model that percieves the shape-similarity of labeled candidate region. In order to evaluate the performance of the preceding vehicle break-lamp detection system implemented in this paper, we applied our system to the various driving images. As a results, implemented system showed successful results.

AI-based image processing technologies in various fields have been widely studied. However, the lighter the board, the more difficult it is to reduce the weight of image processing algorithm due to a lot of computation. In this paper, we propose a method using deep learning for object recognition algorithm in lightweight embedded boards. We can determine the area using a deep neural network architecture algorithm that processes semantic segmentation with a relatively small amount of computation. After masking the area, by using more accurate deep learning algorithm we could operate object detection with improved accuracy for efficient neural network (ENet) and You Only Look Once (YOLO) toward executing object recognition in real time for lightweighted embedded boards. This research is expected to be used for autonomous driving applications, which have to be much lighter and cheaper than the existing approaches used for object recognition.

Early detection continues to be the mainstay of breast cancer control as well as the improvement of its treatment. Even so, the absence of cancer symptoms at the onset has early detection quite challenging. Therefore, various researchers continue to focus on cancer as a topic of health to try and make improvements from the perspectives of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. This research's chief goal is development of a system with deep learning for classification of the breast cancer as non-malignant and malignant using mammogram images. The following two distinct approaches: the first one with the utilization of patches of the Region of Interest (ROI), and the second one with the utilization of the overall images is used. The proposed system is composed of the following two distinct stages: the pre-processing stage and the Convolution Neural Network (CNN) building stage. Of late, the use of meta-heuristic optimization algorithms has accomplished a lot of progress in resolving these problems. Teaching-Learning Based Optimization algorithm (TIBO) meta-heuristic was originally employed for resolving problems of continuous optimization. This work has offered the proposals of novel methods for training the Residual Network (ResNet) as well as the CNN based on the TLBO and the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The classification of breast cancer can be enhanced with direct application of the hybrid TLBO- GA. For this hybrid algorithm, the TLBO, i.e., a core component, will combine the following three distinct operators of the GA: coding, crossover, and mutation. In the TLBO, there is a representation of the optimization solutions as students. On the other hand, the hybrid TLBO-GA will have further division of the students as follows: the top students, the ordinary students, and the poor students. The experiments demonstrated that the proposed hybrid TLBO-GA is more effective than TLBO and GA.
This study aimed to propose an accurate diagnostic method for osteoporosis by realizing a computer-aided diagnosis system with the application of the statistical analysis of texture features using digital images of lateral lumbar spine of patients with osteoporosis and providing reliable supplementary diagnostic information by model experimental research for early diagnosis of diseases. For these purposes, digital images of lateral lumbar spine of normal individuals and patients with osteoporosis were used in the experiments, and the values of statistical texture features on the set ROI were expressed in six parameters. Among the texture feature values of the six parameters of osteoporosis, the highest and lowest recognition rates of 95 and 80% were shown in average gray level and uniformity, respectively. Moreover, all the six parameters showed recognition rates of over 80% for osteoporosis: 82.5% in average contrast, 90% in smoothness, 87.5% in skewness, and 87.5% in entropy. Therefore, if a program developing into a computer-aided diagnosis system for medical images is coded based on the results of this study, it is considered possible to be applied to preliminary diagnostic data for automatic detection of lesions and disease diagnosis using medical images, to provide information for definite diagnosis of diseases, to diagnose by limited device, and to be used to shorten the time to analyze medical images.
One of the most significant features of diagnostic ultrasonic instruments is to provide real time information of the soft tissues movements. Echocardiogram has been widely used for diagnosis of heart diseases since it is able to show real time images of heart valves and walls. However, the currently used ultrasonic images are deteriorated due to presence of speckle noises and image dropout. Therefore, it is very important to develop a new technique which can enhance ultrasonic images. In this study, a technique which extracts enhanced binary images in echocardiograms was proposed. For this purpose, a digital moving image file was made from analog echocardiogram, then it was stored as 8-bit gray-level for each frame. For an efficient image processing, the region containing the heat septum and tricuspid valve was selected as the region of interest(ROI). Image enhancement filters and morphology filters were used to reduce speckle noises in the images. The proposed procedure in this paper resulted in binary images with enhanced contour compared to those form the conventional threshold technique and original image processing technique which can be further implemented for the quantitative analysis of the left ventricular wall motion in echocardiogram by easy detection of the heart wall contours.

This paper presents a semantic object extraction method using user's stroke input, color, and depth information. It is supposed that a semantically meaningful object is surrounded with a few strokes from a user, and has similar depths all over the object. In the proposed method, deciding the region of interest (ROI) is based on the stroke input, and the semantically meaningful object is extracted by using color and depth information. Specifically, the proposed method consists of two steps. The first step is over-segmentation inside the ROI using color and depth information. The second step is semantically meaningful object extraction where over-segmented regions are classified into the object region and the background region according to the depth of each region. In the over-segmentation step, we propose a new marker extraction method where there are two propositions, i.e. an adaptive thresholding scheme to maximize the number of the segmented regions and an adaptive weighting scheme for color and depth components in computation of the morphological gradients that is required in the marker extraction. In the semantically meaningful object extraction, we classify over-segmented regions into the object region and the background region in order of the boundary regions to the inner regions, the average depth of each region being compared to the average depth of all regions classified into the object region. In experimental results, we demonstrate that the proposed method yields reasonable object extraction results.

Purpose : To compare free-breathing and respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted imaging on 1.5-T MR system in the detection of hepatic lesions. Materials and Methods: This single-institution study was approved by our institutional review board. Forty-seven patients (mean 57.9 year; M:F = 25:22) underwent hepatic MR imaging on 1.5-T MR system using both free-breathing and respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) at a single examination. Two radiologists retrospectively reviewed respiratory-triggered and free-breathing sets (B50, B400, B800 diffusion weighted images and ADC map) in random order with a time interval of 2 weeks. Liver SNR and lesion-to-liver CNR of DWI were calculated measuring ROI. Results : Total of 62 lesions (53 benign, 9 malignant) that included 32 cysts, 13 hemangiomas, 7 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), 5 eosinophilic infiltration, 2 metastases, 1 eosinophilic abscess, focal nodular hyperplasia, and pseudolipoma of Glisson's capsule were reviewed by two reviewers. Though not reaching statistical significance, the overall lesion sensitivities were increased in respiratory-triggered DWI [reviewer1: reviewer2, 47/62(75.81%):45/62(72.58%)] than free-breathing DWI [44/62(70.97%):41/62(66.13%)]. Especially for smaller than 1 cm hepatic lesions, sensitivity of respiratory-triggered DWI [24/30(80%):21/30(70%)] was superior to free-breathing DWI [17/30(56.7%):15/30(50%)]. The diagnostic accuracy measuring the area under the ROC curve (Az value) of free-breathing and respiratory-triggered DWI was not statistically different. Liver SNR and lesion-to-liver CNR of respiratory-triggered DWI ($87.6{\pm}41.4$, $41.2{\pm}62.5$) were higher than free-breathing DWI ($38.8:{\pm}13.6$, $24.8{\pm}36.8$) (p value < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted MR imaging seemed to be better than free-breathing diffusion-weighted MR imaging on 1.5-T MR system for the detection of smaller than 1 cm lesions by providing high SNR and CNR.

This study purposed on introducing a new automated solution for detecting railway tracks and reconstructing track models from the mobile laser scanning data. The proposed solution completes following procedures; the study initiated with detecting a potential railway region, called Region Of Interest (ROI), and approximating the orientation of railway track trajectory with the raw data. At next, the knowledge-based detection of railway tracks was performed for localizing track candidates in the first strip. In here, a strip -referring the local track search region- is generated in the orthogonal direction to the orientation of track trajectory. Lastly, an initial track model generated over the candidate points, which were detected by GMM-EM (Gaussian Mixture Model-Expectation & Maximization) -based clustering strip- wisely grows to capture all track points of interest and thus converted into geometric track model in the tracking by detection framework. Therefore, the proposed railway track tracking process includes following key features; it is able to reduce the complexity in detecting track points by using a hypothetical track model. Also, it enhances the efficiency of track modeling process by simultaneously capturing track points and modeling tracks that resulted in the minimization of data processing time and cost. The proposed method was developed using the C++ program language and was evaluated by the LiDAR data, which was acquired from MMS over an urban railway track area with a complex railway scene as well.
