  • This paper proposes regionally centralized multistage reverse logistics (cmRL) networks and regionally decentralized multistage reverse logistics (dmRL) networks. cmRL considers whole area of RL network, while dmRL regionally distributed area of RL network. Each type is formulated by the mixed integer programming (MIP) models, which are realized in genetic algorithm (GA) approach. Two types of numerical experiments using RL network are presented and various measures of performance are used for comparing the efficiency of the cmRL and the dmRL. Finally, it is proved that the performance of the cmRL is superior to that of the dmRL.

  • Objective: This study investigated the effects of dry radish leaf and root on the quality of pork patties during refrigeration storage. Methods: The patties were divided into the following three groups: the control containing 0% dry radish leaf root powder, RL1 containing 0.5% dry radish leaf root powder, and RL2 and RL3 containing 1% and 2% dry radish leaf root powder, respectively. Proximate composition, pH, cooking loss, microbial analysis, lipid oxidation analysis, color, texture profile analysis and sensory test were performed. Results: Moisture, crude protein, and crude ash contents in RL2 and RL3 were significantly higher than those in other groups (p<0.05), whereas crude fat contents in RL2 and RL3 were significantly lower than other groups (p<0.05). Lightness was significantly lower in RL2 and RL3 than in CON (p<0.05). Cooking loss for RL2 and RL3 were significantly lower than those for the other groups (p<0.05). The pH, thiobarbituric acid levels, and total plate counts of RL2 and RL3 were significantly lower than those of CON at days 7 and 14 (p<0.05). Hardness values of RL2 and RL3 were significantly lower than those of CON, whereas chewiness values were higher than those of CON (p<0.05). In addition, the juiciness of RL2 were significantly greater (p<0.05) than those of the other groups. Conclusion: Dried radish leaves and roots improved the proximate composition and quality characteristics of pork patties, providing a basis to produce high-quality patties with extended expiration dates. Thus, dried radish leaves and roots are effective ingredients for health or functional foods.

  • Age determination in children have been criticized because they rely on subjective estimations of tooth development, as seen in radiographs. This study was undertaken to obtain the objective estimation of developing teeth. The panoramic radiograph of 254 males and 254 females ranging from 6 to 14 years of age were studied. The structures measured were crown height, apex width and root length. The data weree statistically investigated with SPSS/PC + package. The results were as follows : 1. With the aid of a multiple regression model, a linear relationship between some of these distances and age was shown. 2. In th total material(6-14yr) and four-yr. intervals, linear equations are as follow : Boys : 6-14 age = 683 + 145.6 44RL + 126.6.45RL + 71.1 46DRL - 161.3 46DAW 6-10 age = 1202 + 72.6 46DRL + 100.2 44RL + 75.1 45RL 8-12 age = 3818 + 75.9 45RL - 190.9 44AW 10-14 age = 4151 + 58.6 45RL - 84.0 45AW - 130.6 44AW Girls : 6-14 age = 1587 + 104.9 45RL + 113.4 44RL - 233.1 46DAW + 81.4 47DRL - 255.9 46MAW 6-10 age = 1821 + 55.8 46DRL + 67.2 45RL - 184.2 46MAW + 56.3 44RL 8-12 age = 2435 + 68.2 45RLL + 71.3 44RL 10-14 age = 3485 + 49.9 47DRL - 51.3 45AW - 179.9 47DAW + 33.4 45RL + 39.4 44RL (DRL, length of distal root in molars. • This experiment was conducted to investigate how restricted-lactation and regulation of weaning-time influence the levels of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in primiparous rats during the suckling period. All the rats were raised in the individual cage from a few days before parturition through the whole suckling period. The restrictedlactation (RL) and weaned (W) groups were subdivided into 5 subgroups as RL0, RL5, RL10, RL15 and RL20 as well as W0, W5, Wl0, W15, and W20 according to the day of onset of suckling only 4 pups in restriction lactation and of suckling no pups in weaned group, respectively, in contrast to suckling 8 pups per litter in normal lactation (NL) group. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The serum IGF- I concentration of NL rats was 750.59$\pm$3.52ng/$m\ell$ on Day 0, which was not changed until Day 15, and then it was increased through the subsequent suckling period to 1690.20$\pm$4.42ng/$m\ell$ on Day 25. 2. The IGF-I concentrations of early restricted lactation (RL0, RL5) were 1395.90$\pm$3.45ng/$m\ell$ and 1351$\pm$3.23ng/$m\ell$ on Day 10, respeotively. It was significantly higher (P<0.05) than NL group (745.96$\pm$2.24ng/$m\ell$), and then was not different between group from day 15 of lactation. 3. The IGF- I concentration of W-group in the early lactation was higher (P<0.05) than NL group during the first week of lactation. But it was decreased to the similar concentration as NL group on Day 10. These data show that lactation stimulus may regulate the IGF-I concentration.

  • Rhamnolipid (RL) is renowned for its efficacy in bioremediating several types of organic and metal contaminants. Nevertheless, there has been a scarcity of studies specifically examining the relationship between this substance and metals, especially in terms of their impact on RL formation and the underlying interaction processes. This study addresses this gap by investigating the RL mechanism in Cr (VI) remediation and evaluating its effect on RL production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa RW9. In this study, P. aeruginosa RW9 was grown in the presence of 10 mg l-1 Cr (VI). We monitored RL yield, congeners distribution, and their ratios, as well as the transcriptional expression of the RL-encoded genes: rhlA, rhlB, and rhlC. Our results revealed that RL effectively reduced Cr (VI) to Cr (III), with RL yield increasing threefold, although with a slight delay in synthesis compared to control cells. Furthermore, Cr (VI) exposure induced the transcriptional expression of the targeted genes, leading to a significant increase in di-RL production. The findings confirm that Cr (VI) significantly impacts RL production, altering its structural compositions and enhancing the transcriptional expression of RL-encoded genes in P. aeruginosa RW9. This study represents a novel exploration of Cr (VI)'s influence on RL production, providing valuable insights into the biochemical pathways involved and supporting the potential of RL in Cr (VI) bioremediation.

  • We propose the ARIES/RL which extends the with 're-logging' technique to manage the limited online 1og space efficiently even though 1ong-duration transactions exist. Re-logging isa technique that log records used in transaction rollback and restart recovery are copied forward in the log whenever the online log is not sufficient for keeping logs of on-going transactions It does not hurt the advantages of ARIES. Moreover, it handles log space efficiently in executing long-duration transactions. We also present the evaluation result of ARIES/RL and show that ARIES/RL handles online log efficiently.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate how the lactation regulation such as restricted-lactation and early weaning during the suckling period influences on ovarian functions and change in serum levels of progesterone in primiparous rats. All the rats were raised in the individual cage from a few days before parturition through the suckling period. The normal lactation(NL) groups were controled 8 pups. The restricted-lactation(RL) and weaned(W) groups were subdivided into 5 subgroups as RL0, RL5, RL10, RL15 and RL20 as well as W0, W5, W10, W15, and W20 according to the day of onset of suckling. The number of pups were regulated from 8 to 4 on experimental strating day in RL gropus, and also perfectly weaned on the each on-set day in W groups. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. During the whole suckling period of 25 days the pups in RL group grew significantly(P<005) faster than those in normal-lactation(NL) group. The pups in earlier RL group grew significantly(P<0.05) faster than those in later RL rats, and there was no found any significant difference in body weight of pups between RL20 and NL group. The gestation period and litter size were found to be 21.53$\pm$0.04 days and 13.75$\pm$0.07, respectively. 2. The estrous cycle was not expressed in the NL group through the whole suckling period. An irregular estrous cycle was found around day 20 in RL0 group, and the regular estrous cycles were exhibited continuously from day 10 in the day 0 weaned rats. 3. In the rats of NL group the serum progesterone concentration increased from 33.16$\pm$2.64ng/$m\ell$ on day 0 to 122.5$\pm$53.68 ng/$m\ell$ on day 10, and then decreased slightly to 97.30$\pm$3.21 ng/$m\ell$ on day 20, but then decreased abruptly. However, the serum level of progesterone decreased greatly(P<0.05) in 5 to 10 days following suckling restriction in the rats from which suckling began to be under restriction on day 0 or day 15. In the early weaning group the significant ( (P<0.05) decrease in progesterone concentration was found similarly in 48 hours following weaning in all the rats weaned on day 0 through day 20. It was suggested that lactation stimulation is a very pivotal on the function of ovary.

  • The recently proposed "Potential-based" reinforcement learning (RL) method made it possible to combine multiple learnings and expert advices as supervised knowledge within an RL framework. The effectiveness of the approach has been established by a theoretical convergence guarantee to an optimal policy. In this paper, the potential-based RL method is applied to a dynamic channel assignment (DCA) problem in a cellular networks. It is empirically shown that the potential-based RL assigns channels more efficiently than fixed channel assignment, Maxavail, and Q-learning-based DCA, and it converges to an optimal policy more rapidly than other RL algorithms, SARSA(0) and PRQ-learning.

  • Reverse logistics (RL) covering the flow of products/parts in a reverse direction from product returns to product disposal. Companies are faced with a decision on whether to manage RL in house or to outsource it to a RL third party service provider (3PSP). A survey was conducted in 2004 to study RL outsourcing practices. Through the survey, various RL functions outsourced in industry are identified, and the factors considered to decide between in-house vs. outsourcing RL management are studied along with their importance. In addition, this research presents the performance measures of a 3PSP and problems faced by companies while managing RL in-house and outsourcing.
