The authors argues that the current road updating system based on traditional aerial photograph or multi-spectral satellite image appears to be non-user friendly due to lack of the frequent cartographic representation for the new construction sites. Google Earth are currently being emerged as one of important places to extract road features since the RGB satellite image with high multi-temporal resolution can be accessed freely over large areas. This paper is primarily intended to evaluate optimal threshold of RGB pixel values to extract road features from Google Earth. An empirical study for five experimental sites was conducted to confirm how a RGB picture provided Google Earth can be used to extact the road feature. The results indicate that optimal threshold of RGB pixel values to extract road features was identified as 126, 125, 127 for manual operation which corresponds to 25%, 30%, 19%. Also, it was found that display scale difference of Google Earth was not very influential in tracking required RGB pixel value. As a result the 61cm resolution of Quickbird RGB data has shown the potential to realistically identified the major type of road feature by large scale spatial precision while the typical algorithm revealed successfully the area-wide optimal threshold of RGB pixel for road appeared in the study area.
This paper proposes an RGB to RGBY color conversion algorithm for liquid crystal display (LCD) using RGW pixel structure with two-field (yellow and blue) sequential driving method. The proposed algorithm preserves the hue and saturation of the original color by maintaining the RGB ratio, and it increases the luminance. The performance of the proposed RGBY conversion algorithm is verified using the MATLAB simulation with 24 images of Kodak lossless true color image suite. The simulation results of average color difference CIEDE2000 (${\delta}E^*_{00}$) and scaling factor are 0.99 and 1.89, respectively. These results indicate that the average brightness is increased 1.89 times compared to LCD using conventional RGB pixel structure, without increasing the power consumption and degrading the image quality.
Interpolation based information hiding methods are widely used to get information security. Conventional interpolation methods use the neighboring pixel value and simple calculation like average to embed secret bit stream into the image. But these information hiding methods are not appropriate to color images like military images because the characteristics of military images are not considered and these methods are restricted in grayscale images. In this paper, the new information hiding method based on interpolation using RGB pixel values of color image is proposed and the effectiveness is analyzed through experiments.
A full-color AMOLED display with an RGBW color filter pattern has been fabricated. Displays with this format require about $^1/_2$ the power of analogous RGB displays. RGBW and RGB 2.16inch diagonal displays with average power consumptions of 180 mW and 340 mW, respectively, are demonstrated for a set of standard digital still camera images at a luminance of 100 cd/$m^2$. In both cases, a white-emitting AMOLED is used as the light source. The higher efficiency of the RGBW format results because a large fraction of a typical image can be represented as white, and the white sub-pixel in an RGBW AMOLED display is highly efficient because of the absence of any color filter. RGBW and RGB AMOLED displays have the same color gamut and, aside from the power consumption difference, are indistinguishable.
The total light efficiencies of the novel 1.9" transflective tRGB-t/rW and tRGB-rW TFT LCDs are calculated and they are implemented by the traditional 7-mask ${\alpha}$-Si processing. Then, the two vehicles are turned on with the appropriate Sub-Pixel Rendering White (SPRW) algorithms, so they can exhibit the extra luminance without the original visual resolution loss. Their outstanding optical properties are approved by measuring the contrast ratio (C.R.) and the NTSC ratio. Because they utilize the light resource very effectively and efficiently, they are very suitable for the dark indoor and the bright outdoor environments.
The visual sensing of human hands plays an important part in many man-machine interaction/interface systems. Most existing visionbased hand detection techniques depend on the color cues of human skin. The RGB color image from a vision sensor is often transformed to another color space as a preprocessing of hand detection because the color space transformation is assumed to increase the detection accuracy. However, the actual effect of color space transformation has not been well investigated in literature. This paper discusses a comparative evaluation of the pixel classification performance of hand skin detection in four widely used color spaces; RGB, YIQ, HSV, and normalized rgb. The experimental results indicate that using the normalized red-green color values is the most reliable under different backgrounds, lighting conditions, individuals, and hand postures. The nonlinear classification of pixel colors by the use of a multilayer neural network is also proposed to improve the detection accuracy.

In this paper, we propose an AR (Augmented Reality) lip makeup using bare hands interactively using an RGB camera. Unlike previous interactive makeup studies, this interactive lip makeup system is based on an RGB camera. Also, the system controls the makeup area in pixels, not in polygon-units. For pixel-unit controlling, the system also proposed a 'Rendering Map' that can store the relative position of the touched hand relative to the lip landmarks. With the map, the part to be changed in color can be specified in the current frame. And the lip color of the corresponding area is adjusted, even if the movement of the face changes in the next frame. Through user experiments, we compare quantitatively and qualitatively our makeup method with the conventional polygon-unit method. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method enhances the quality of makeup with a little sacrifice of computational complexity. It is confirmed that natural makeup similar to the actual lip makeup is possible by dividing the lip area into more detailed areas. Furthermore, the method can be applied to make the face makeup of other areas more realistic.
Background Neoplastic vessels tend to proliferate on the surface of malignant lesions in the aerodigestive tract. So, superficial malignant lesions can be detected earlier by enhancing mucosal vascular clarity. To enhance mucosal vascular clarity on endoscopic image, we developed an image processing algorithm of RGB (red-green-blue) channel substitution image (CSI). Methods Each pixel in original white light image (WLI) has its own value of red, green and blue channel. Various combinations of RGB channel substitution was tried on original WLI. Results To make superficial blood vessels darker than brighter background mucosa, in the CSI algorithm, RGB value in each pixel of WLI is substituted; red value to green one, green value to blue one. There was a good contrast between superficial mucosal vessels and background brighter mucosa in the CSI image. Conclusion By RGB CSI algorithm, WLI could be successfully converted to new images with enhanced mucosal vascular clarity. Using RGB CSI algorithm could provide added vascular visibility on original WLI.
Increase of national family income improved demand of high-quality and year-round horticultural products including chrysanthemum. To meet these demand, farmers have introduced protected facilities, such as greenhouses, of which environmental conditions could be monitored and controlled. Environment management up to three weeks after transplanting is critical for chrysanthemum quality. Artificial lighting and light-blocking screen are especially important for long-day (day period > 13 hours) and short-day (night period > 13 hours) treatments. In this study, a web-camera was installed, and the image was obtained and transmitted to mobile phones to monitor the status of 3-wavelength(RGB) lighting environments. RGB pixel values were used to determine malfunctioning of the lighting lamps, and leaking out and incoming illumination status during short-day and long-day treatment periods. Normal lighting lamps provided RGB pixel values of 240~255. During long-day treatment period, G pixel values were useful to detect abnormal lighting conditions (e.g., leaking). During short-day treatment period, R pixel values were useful to determine incoming light (e.g., sun-light). Results of this study would provide useful information for remote monitoring of light conditions for protected chrysanthemum production under artificial lights.
