Design and Implementation of RF based locating System for NLOS Environment (비가시성을 고려한 RF 기반 측위 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • RTLS (Real-time locating systems) are used for tracking the location of people or assets in real time. In this system, RTLS readers continuously communicate with RTLS tags for measuring time or ranges and location engine tries to calculate accurate location of tags. However, when we attempt to apply this system to real world, the non-line-of-sight(NLOS) problem can be critical to the system performance because of the obstacles. In this paper, we suggest a new location estimation method for an NLOS environment using a reader-selection strategy. We have implemented all components of the locating system and carried out experiments in a test-bed. The accuracy of the system is 50% better than that of the existing general locating system.

Fin-Line Balanced Mixer Design for Ku-band Tracking Radar Receiver (Fin-Line 구조의 Ku대역 추적레이더 수신단용 평형 믹서 설계)

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the frequency mixer, which is the core parts of high frequency head in Ku-band tracking radar. To overcome the problem of single-ended and single-balanced resistive structure, we designed the fine-line structure with balanced mixer, to generate IF signal without distortion in L-band, after receiving the RF signal of the Ku-band. The prototype mixer showed a Noise Figure Max of 6.823dB, Gain of 4.1598~4.676dB and Band Pass of 61MHz in 5 Ku-band samples frequency.

  • Telecommand & telemetry control equipment is needed for the testing of the transponders during the development of satellite. This equipment must have a loopback function to perform the self testing without satellite. The fabrication of the designed system is easier and cheaper than the conventional testing system using direct modulation method. The measured results of fabricated equipment are satisfied with required specifications. A overall path loss of uplink and downlink is 47.8 dB and 42.6 dB, respectively. Also, IMD3 of uplink has measured 60.68 dBc at an output of -50 dBm.

  • This study purposes to cross-validate its performance by applying the optimal seismic vulnerability assessment model based on previous studies conducted in Gyeongju to other regions. The test area was Pohang City, the occurrence site for the 2017 Pohang Earthquake, and the dataset was built the same influencing factors and earthquake-damaged buildings as in the previous studies. The validation dataset was built via random sampling, and the prediction accuracy was derived by applying it to a model based on a random forest (RF) of Gyeongju. The accuracy of the model success and prediction in Gyeongju was 100% and 94.9%, respectively, and as a result of confirming the prediction accuracy by applying the Pohang validation dataset, it appeared as 70.4%.

Development of Communication Device for Sound Signal Receiving and Controlling of Sonobuoy (소노부이의 음향신호 수신 및 제어를 위한 통신장치 개발)

  • Low Frequency Active Sonobuoy(hereinafter referred to as LFAS) are being developed in Korea in consideration of compatibility with existing overseas sonobuoys, and a communication device for acoustic signals receiving and operating control of LFAS has been developed. The communication device needs to verify compatibility with the existing Sonobuoy, and for this purpose, the standardized Sonobuoy communication protocol was applied. The communication device is designed/manufactured to transmit the acoustic signal received in real time from the Sonobuoy through VHF band RF communication to the data processing device, and transmit CFS/CSG commands for operation control to the Sonobuoy through UHF band RF communication. In order to verify the manufactured communication device, the communication status and performance were verified by interlocking test through Ultra Electronics' PASS-II equipment and domestically developed electronic device of Sonobuoy. In addition, operability was verified through environmental tests, water tanks, and marine operations. In the future, the communication device of sonobuoy can be used for verification of the Sonobuoy developed in Korea.

  • In this paper, we presents a Multiple User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) test-bed system for Time Division Duplex (TDD) Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A). Using two parameters, the condition number of the channel matrix and the path gain, the MU-MIMO system could switch pre-coder to maintain target Bit Error Rate (BER) level. This paper also introduces a calibration procedure for compensating error of Radio Frequency (RF) paths of the antennas and RF transceivers. From experimental measurements, dynamic pre-coding scheme could maintain target BER, set to 10-3, with the pre-coder set configured with Zero Forcing (ZF), Tomlinson Harashima Pre-coding (THP), Lattice Reduction (LR). The simplest pre-coder ZF is adopted in stable channel, and when path gain become less than 0.25, LR is adopted. Lastly, when condition number of channel matrix become larger than 7, THP is adopted.

  • The number of people enrolling in universities is rising due to the simplicity of applying and the benefit of earning a bachelor's degree. However, the on-time graduation rate has declined since plenty of students fail to complete their courses and take longer to get their diplomas. Even though there are various reasons leading to the aforementioned problem, it is crucial to emphasize the cause originating from the management and care of learners. In fact, understanding students' difficult situations and offering timely Number of Test data and advice would help prevent college dropouts or graduate delays. In this study, we present a machine learning-based method for early detection at-risk students, using data obtained from graduates of the Faculty of Information Technology, Dainam University, Vietnam. We experiment with several fundamental machine learning methods before implementing the parameter optimization techniques. In comparison to the other strategies, Random Forest and Grid Search (RF&GS) and Random Forest and Random Search (RF&RS) provided more accurate predictions for identifying at-risk students.

Growth and characterization of BON thin films prepared by low frequency RF plasma enhanced MOCVD method

  • It was first time that low frequency R.F. derived plasma enhanced MOCVD with frimethylborate precursor was used to fabricate a new ternary compound $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ . The formation of BON molecule was resulted from nitrogen nitrifying B-O, and forming the angular molecule structure proved by XPS and FT-IR results. The relationship between hardness and film thickness was studied. An thickness-independent hardness was fond about 10 GPa. The empirical calculation of band-gap and UV test result showed that our deposited $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ thin film was semiconductor material with 3.4eV of wide band gap. The electrical conductivity, $4.8$\times$10^{-2}$ /($\Omega$.cm)$^{-1}$ also confirmed that $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ has a semiconductor property. The roughness detected from the as-grown films showed that there was no serious bombarding effect due to anion in the plasma occurring in the RF frequency derived plasma.

Machine Learning for Flood Prediction in Indonesia: Providing Online Access for Disaster Management Control

  • As one of the most vulnerable countries to floods, there should be an increased necessity for accurate and reliable flood forecasting in Indonesia. Therefore, a new prediction model using a machine learning algorithm is proposed to provide daily flood prediction in Indonesia. Data crawling was conducted to obtain daily rainfall, streamflow, land cover, and flood data from 2008 to 2021. The model was built using a Random Forest (RF) algorithm for classification to predict future floods by inputting three days of rainfall rate, forest ratio, and stream flow. The accuracy, specificity, precision, recall, and F1-score on the test dataset using the RF algorithm are approximately 94.93%, 68.24%, 94.34%, 99.97%, and 97.08%, respectively. Moreover, the AUC (Area Under the Curve) of the ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics) curve results in 71%. The objective of this research is providing a model that predicts flood events accurately in Indonesian regions 3 months prior the day of flood. As a trial, we used the month of June 2022 and the model predicted the flood events accurately. The result of prediction is then published to the website as a warning system as a form of flood mitigation.

  • The radar flight test has many restrictions on simulating various targets, clutter and jamming signal. Therefore, in this study, a radar HILS system that performs a radar operation simulation function according to an operation scenario was developed. Radar HILS simulates the radar mission environment through radar beam operation simulation, radar operation control, simulated signal generation, and flight attitude simulation.. HILS generates and modulates simulated target signals(single, multiple targets) containing radar mission environments(clutter, jamming etc.) based on flight scenarios, and transmits them to AESA radar over RF. And Scenario-based radar performance was verified by detecting simulated targets and confirming detection results.
