  • In this paper, a local oscillator for X-band radar system is designed and fabricated with GaAs MESFET. GaAs MESFET is good for microwave oscillators because of very low noise figure and high electron mobility. Oscillator design methods in this paper are used the characteristic of negative resistance of active component and impedance matching technique without RF resonator. So, oscillator is designed in compact size because space of RF resonator is reduced and can be applied MMIC technique. Designed oscillator has characteristic of the output power of 2.30 dBm and center frequency of 10.545GHz.

  • In this paper, a novel split ring resonator is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator, and oscillator for 5.8GHz band is designed using proposed split ring resonator. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8GHz, 7.22dBm output power and -83.5 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with split ring resonator. The phase noise characteristics of oscillator is improved about 9.7dB compared to one using the general ${\lambda}$/4 microstrip resonator. Because it is possible that varactor diode or lumped capacitor is placed on the gaps of split ring resonator, resonant frequency can be controlled by bias voltage. We can design voltage controlled oscillator using proposed split ring resonator. Thus, due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

  • In this paper, a novel resonator using ring type DGS is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator, and oscillator for 5.8GHz band is designed using proposed DGS resonator. The ring type DGS resonator is composed of DGS cell etched on ground plane under $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8GHz, 7.6dBm output power and -82.7 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with ring type DGS resonator. The phase noise characteristics of oscillator is improved about 9.5dB compared to one using the general ${\lambda}/4$ microstrip resonator. Because it is possible that varactor diode or lumped capacitor is placed on the gaps of ring type DGS, resonant frequency can be controlled by bias voltage. We can design voltage controlled oscillator using proposed ring type DGS resonator. Thus, due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

  • In this paper, we propose the PLL system of the local oscillator system for the millimeter wave band's radio astronomy receiving system. The development of the proposed local oscillator system based on the YIG oscillator VCO with $26.5\~40GHz$ specification. This system consists of the oscillator part including the YIG VCO, the harmonic mixer, and the isolator, the RF processing part including the triplexer, limiter, and RF discrimination processor, and the PLL system including YIG modulator and controller. Based on this configuration, we verify the frequency and power stability of the developed local oscillator system according to some temperature variation. From this test results we confirm the stable output frequency and power characteristic peformance of the developed LO system at constant temperature.

  • In this paper, oscillator with compact hairpin resonator is used to design the local oscillator of X-band radar system. The proposed hairpin resonator is minimized by increasing capacitance of line end of conventional one. By this method, size can be minimized about 40% compared with the conventional resonator and also can improve phase noise characteristic. The result of oscillator using proposed hairpin resonator is measured in oscillating frequency of 9.05 GHz, output power of 2.47 dBm, and phase noise of -101.4 dBc/Hz. The fabricated oscillator in this paper can minimize design and it's planar structure makes it easy to design MMIC.

  • Wireless power transmission (WPT) is a technology using free space as a conductor for transmitting electric power, which aims to transfer not just the transmission signal but also the electrical energy itself. This paper takes issue with the microwave wireless transmission technology utilizing in long-distance transmission. To construct the WPT system, several components are needed, such as RF Oscillator which converts AC power to RF through DC status, high gain antenna and RF rectifier that converts RF back to DC. The array topology is good a candidate for wide use. The objective of this research is to study the efect of the WPT systmem on electric power system.

  • This paper presents a design study of a solid state power oscillator to replace the conventional magnetron. The operational conditions of a single-stage 300 W LDMOS power amplifier were fully characterized. The power module consisted of two amplifiers connected in parallel. A delay-line feedback loop was designed for self-oscillation. A phase shifter was inserted in the delay-line feedback loop for adjusting the round-trip phase. Experiments performed using the power oscillator showed an output power of 800 W and a DC-RF conversion efficiency of 58 % at 2.327 GHz. The measured results were in good agreement with those predicted by numerical simulations.

  • In this paper, a highly linear self oscillating mixers(SOM) using second harmonic injections are presented. The H-slot defected ground structure(DGS) is designed as a balanced resonator for oscillation in the proposed SOM. Since the H-slot DGS resonator achieves a high Q factor, it is a suitable structure to provide low phase noise for the oscillator. The single balanced mixer is utilized in this work and it provides good LO-RF isolation since balanced LO signals are suppressed at the RF input port. In order to inject the second harmonic of the IF, we propose two different methods using feedback loops. In the first method, IF achieves a 3.08 dB conversion gain at 226 MHz with input power of -20 dBm at 5 GHz RF input signal. The IF achieves 2 dB conversion gain at 423 MHz with the input power of -20 dBm at 5.2 GHz RF input signal in the second method. The measured IMD3s are 61.8 dB and 65 dB for the each method. These SOMs present improved linearity compared to that without the second harmonic injection because IMD3s are improved by 18. dB and 21 dB for each method.
