  • A new neural network structure called Self-organized Distributed Networks (SODN) is proposed for developing the neural network-based multidimensional system models. The learning with the proposed networks is fast and precise. Such properties are caused from the local learning mechanism. The structure of the networks is combination of dual networks such as self-organized networks and multilayered local networks. Each local networks learns only data in a sub-region. Large number of memory requirements and low generalization capability for the untrained region, which are drawbacks of conventional local network learning, are overcomed in the proposed networks. The simulation results of the proposed networks show better performance than the standard multilayer neural networks and the Radial Basis function(RBF) networks.

  • In biomass gasification, efficiency of energy quantification is a difficult part without finishing the process. In this article, a radial basis function neural network (RBFN) is proposed to predict biomass efficiency before gasification. RBFN will be compared with a principal component regression (PCR) and a multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPN). Due to the high dimensionality of data, principal component transform is first used in PCR and afterwards, ordinary regression is applied to selected principal components for modeling. Multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPN) is also used without any preprocessing. For this research, 3 wood samples and 3 other feedstock are used and they are near infrared (NIR) spectrum data with high-dimensionality. Ash and char are used as response variables. The comparison results of two responses will be shown.

  • As the price of traditional fuels soar, the alternatives are becoming more viable. And manufacturers are promoting the growing viability of electric and biofuel-powered vehicles through longer warranties. Now, these longer green environment (emission)warranties, sometimes called extended warranties or "super warranties," have been adapted. The main result of this paper is to present a new method to approximate a bivariate warranty function by using Radial Basis Function Network with application of Radon Transform and its inverse which is used to reduce the dimension of the warranty space. This method consist of the following stages: First, by using the Radon Transform, the bivariate warranty function can be reduced to one dimensional function. Second, each of the one dimensional functions is approximated by using neural network technique into neural sub-networks. Third, these neural sub-networks are combined together to form the final approximation neural network. Four, by using the inverse of radon transform to this final approximation neural network we get the approximation to the given function. Also, we apply the above method to some green warranty data of automotive vehicle company.

  • Clustering results based on the FCM algorithm sometimes produces undesirable clustering result through data distribution in the clustered space because data is classified by comparison with membership degree which is calculated by the Euclidean distance between input vectors and clusters. Symmetrical measurement of clusters and fuzzy theory are applied to the classification to tackle this problem. The enhanced FCM algorithm has a low impact with the variation of changing distance about each cluster, middle of cluster and cluster formation. Improved hybrid network of applying FCM algorithm is proposed to classify patterns effectively. The proposed enhanced FCM algorithm is applied to the learning structure between input and middle layers, and normalized delta learning rule is applied in learning stage between middle and output layers in the hybrid network. The proposed algorithms compared with FCM-based RBF network using Max_Min neural network, FMC-based RBF network and HCM-based RBF network to evaluate learning and recognition performances in the two-dimensional coordinated data.

  • This paper presents the implementation of an educational kit for intelligent system control education. Neural network control algorithms are presented and control hardware is embedded to control the inverted pendulum system. The RBF network and the MLP network are implemented and embedded on the DSP 2812 chip and other necessary functions are embedded on an FPGA chip. Experimental studies are conducted to compare performances of two neural control methods. The intelligent control educational kit(ICEK) is implemented with the inverted pendulum system whose movements of the cart is limited by space. Experimental results show that the neural controllers can manage to control both the angle and the position of the inverted pendulum systems within a limited distance. Performances of the RCT and the FEL control method are compared as well.

  • In this paper, a direct controller for nonlinear plants using a neural network is presented. The controller is composed of an approximate controller and a neural network auxiliary controller. The approximate controller gives the rough control and the neural network controller gives the complementary signal to further reduce the output tracking error. This method does not put too much restriction on the type of nonlinear plant to be controlled. In this method, a RBF neural network is trained and the system has a stable performance for the inputs it has been trained for. Simulation results show that it is very effective and can realize a satisfactory control of the nonlinear system.

  • This paper presents a wavelet-based neural network technology for the detection and classification of the various types of power quality disturbances. Power quality phenomena are short-time problems and of many varieties. Particularly, the transients happen during very short durations to the nano- and microsecond. Thus, a method for detecting and classifying transient signals at the same time and in an automatic combines the properties of the wavelet transform and the advantages of neural networks. Especially, the additional feature extraction to improve the recognition rate is considered. The configuration of the hardware of WN (PQ-DAS) and some case studies are described.

  • In this paper, we present a watermarking scheme based on the DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) and the ANN (Artificial Neural Network) to ensure the copyright protection of the digital images. The problem to embed watermark is not clear to select important coefficient in the watermarking. We used the RBF (Radial-Basis Function) to solve the problem. We didn't apply the whole wavelet coefficients, but applied to only the wavelet coefficients in the selected node. Using the ANN, although even the watermark casting process and watermark verification process are in public, nobody knows the location of embedding watermark except of authorized user. As the result, the watermark is good at the strength test-filtering, geometric transform and etc.
