  • A 16-year-old girl was transferred to the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery because of a spontaneous pneumothorax with prolonged air leakage. Chest computed tomography demonstrated a cystic lesion measuring $2{\times}3cm$ and involving the left upper lobe. Left upper lobectomy was performed via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. A pathologic examination of the specimen revealed a mesenchymal cystic hamartoma. Despite the rarity of pulmonary mesenchymal cystic hamartoma, it should be considered a potential cause of pneumothorax for patients with a large pulmonary cyst. Further, surgical resection must be considered because serious complications such as hemothorax, hemoptysis, and malignant transformation have been reported.

  • Supravalvar aortic stenosis (SVAS) is a rare congenital cardiac disease that usually co-occurs with Williams syndrome. In the adult population, a few SVAS cases have been reported in patients affected by homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. However, because of the rarity of this disease entity, there is no standard surgical treatment for SVAS. Here, we present a case of successful surgical treatment using an autologous excised aortic patch in a 65-year-old patient with SVAS.

  • Primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) is rare, with a more favorable prognosis compared with that of other types of non-small cell lung cancers. Herein, we describe an interesting case of primary pulmonary LELC confirmed postoperatively, which had been initially diagnosed as poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. We suggest that despite the rarity of pulmonary LELC, it should be included as one of the differential diagnoses for lung malignancies. Physicians should consider taking a larger biopsy, especially when histologic examination shows undifferentiated nature.

  • This study aims to prove that the fact that minority races in the north-eastern region contributed sable skin to the Quing Dynasty might be related to Cho-Sun of King Muryong in the Warring states period because documents are available here and there. The Chinese had been using fur clothing since ancient times but we cannot find any mention that they had used sable skin. This fact shows that sable skin was not widely used because of its rarity. Cho-pi had been used in making costume on a large scale from the period of the Han Dynasty to the end of the Quing Dynasty. Cho-pi was very rare and it was used as a measure of bartering. China met the demand of cho-pi by the Cho-pi contributions of the frontier minority races. It might bwe that the high demand of Cho-pi in the Quing Dynasty forced minority races to contribute Cho-pi The documents concerning Cho-pi in the north-eastern region are of great importance not only to the history of costume but also to the history of ancient economy and national culture.

  • A characteristic imaging finding in cases of methanol intoxication is putaminal necrosis, but its presence is usually not suspected due to its rarity. Methanol intoxication generally produces serious neurological symptoms that include visual disturbances and diminished consciousness, characteristically with metabolic acidosis. We reported the case of a 59-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital with diminished consciousness. Acute methanol intoxication was determined as the cause. Laboratory tests revealed high anion gap metabolic acidosis. Diffusion-weighted MRI indicated diffuse symmetric diffusion restriction lesions in the subcortical white matter of both cerebral hemispheres.

  • Isolated oculomotor nerve palsy (ONP) attributable to mild closed head trauma is a distinct rarity. Its diagnosis places high demands on the radiologist and the clinician. The authors describe this condition in a 36-year-old woman who slipped while walking and struck her face. Initial computed tomography did not reveal any causative cerebral and vascular lesions or orbital and cranial fractures. Enhancement and swelling of the cisternal segment of the oculomotor nerve was seen during the subacute phase on thin-sectioned contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images. The current case received corticosteroid therapy, and then recovered fully in 13 months after injury. Possible mechanism of ONP from minor head injury is proposed and previous reports in the literature are reviewed.

The subjects were Korean 445 women from 20's to 50's living in Seoul. The mean, ANOVA, factor analysis, regression analysis, Duncan test were used for statistics analysis. The results are as follows; Seven factors of the attitude toward fashion luxury products were identified: the involvement for fashion luxury, the duality of fashion luxury, the negative response toward the consumption of fashion luxury, the luxurious aspect of fashion goods, the traditional value of fashion luxury, the rarity of fashion luxury. Among demographics, age and income influenced on fashion luxury products involvement, the quality of luxury products. The perception of good quality and hedonic consumption of luxury good influence highly on the involvement for the luxury products.

  • Congenital syngnathia refers to the fusion of bony tissues, a rare disorder with only 41 cases reported in the international literature from 1936 to 2009. The occurrence of syngnathia without any other associated systemic disease or congenital anomaly is extremely rare. This report presents a case of congenital syngnathia with unilateral maxillomandibular bony adhesion without any other oral or maxillofacial anomaly. No recommended protocol for surgery exists due to the rarity of the disorder. There is a very low survival rate for the few patients who have forgone surgical management. This case describes a 74-year-old female patient who was suffering from limitation of mouth opening and was subsequently diagnosed with congenital syngnathia. The surgical staff performed separation surgery and reconstructed the malformed oral vestibule and cheek using the radial forearm free flap operation.

  • Osteosarcoma is a classical malignant bone-forming neoplasm which usually presents with an aggressive clinical course. The current case is presented with the radiographic feature of widening of the periodontal ligament space of the involved teeth, which is considered to be the earliest radiographic manifestation of osteosarcoma involving the jaw bone. The main aim of this case report was to focus on the importance of early diagnosis of this tumor based on clinical and radiographic examinations, and confirmation by histopathology. Considering the rarity of the disease type and particularly taking into account the fast progression and aggressiveness of this neoplasm, it is clear that the presentation of a clinical case represents a major contribution to better understanding of osteosarcomas involving the jaw bone.
