A Synthetic Exponentially Weighted Moving-average Chart for High-yield Processes

  • As charts to monitor the process fraction defectives, P, in the high-yield processes, Mishima et al. (2002) discussed a synthetic chart, the Synthetic CS chart, which integrates the CS (Confirmation Sample)$_{CCC(\text{Cumulative Count of Conforming})-r}$ chart and the CCC-r chart. The Synthetic CS chart is designed to monitor quality characteristics in real-time. Recently, Kotani et al. (2005) presented the EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving-Average)$_{CCC-r}$ chart, which considers combining the quality characteristics monitored in the past with one monitored in real-time. In this paper, we present an alternative chart that is more superior to the $EWMA_{CCC-r}$ chart. It is an integration of the $EWMA_{CCC-r}$ chart and the CCC-r chart. In using the proposed chart, the quality characteristic is initially judged as either the in-control state or the out-of-control state, using the lower and upper control limits of the $EWMA_{CCC-r}$ chart. If the process is not judged as the in-control state by the $EWMA_{CCC-r}$ chart, the process is successively judged, using the $EWMA_{CCC-r}$ chart. We compare the ANOS (Average Number of Observations to Signal) of the proposed chart with those of the $EWMA_{CCC-r}$ chart and the Synthetic CS chart. From the numerical experiments, with the small size of inspection items, the proposed chart is the most sensitive to detect especially the small shifts in P among other charts.

Effect of LiCoO2-Coated Cathode on Performance of Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell

  • Molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFCs) are environmentally friendly, large-capacity power generation devices operated at approximately 650℃. If MCFCs are to be commercialized by improving their competitiveness, their cell life should be increased by operating them at lower temperatures. However, a decrease in the operating temperature causes a reduction in the cell performance because of the reduction in the electrochemical reaction rate. The cell performance can be improved by introducing a coating on the cathode of the cell. A coating with a high surface area expands the triple phase boundaries (TPBs) where the gas and electrolyte meet on the electrode surface. And the expansion of TPBs enhances the oxygen reduction reaction of the cathode. Therefore, the cell performance can be improved by increasing the reaction area, which can be achieved by coating nanosized LiCoO2 particles on the cathode. However, although a coating improves the cell performance, a thick coating makes gas difficult to diffuse into the pore of the coating and thus reduces the cell performance. In addition, LiCoO2-coated cathode cell exhibits stable cell performance because the coating layer maintains a uniform thickness under MCFC operating conditions. Therefore, the performance and stability of MCFCs can be improved by applying a LiCoO2 coating with an appropriate thickness on the cathode.

음폐수 부하량에 따른 고온호기성 공정의 처리 양상 (Influence of Food Wastewater Loading Rate on the Reactor Performance and Stability in the Thermophilic Aerobic Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 음식물류 폐기물 자원화 과정에서 생성되는 고농도 음폐수(food wastewater : FWW)를 대상으로 기존의 혐기성 공정의 대안책으로써 고온호기성 소화공정에 대한 성능을 검증하였고 공정 인자를 도출하였다. 이를 위해 수리학적 체류시간(Hydraulic retention time, HRT) 변화 및 유기물 부하량(Organic loading rate, OLR)에 따른 유기물 제거 효율과 안정성을 관찰하였다. 실험 결과 비교적 짧은 HRT를 가진 R1 (HRT : 5일)의 경우 OLR이 증가할 때, 급격한 pH감소가 일어나 심한 공정 저해를 받는 것으로 관찰되었다. 반면 R2 (HRT : 10일)의 경우에는 상대적으로 안정적인 공정 운전 및 효율적인 COD, 유기산 및 lipid 제거가 일어났다. 이는 상대적으로 긴 HRT로 인한 유기산 축적과 같은 공정저해 요인이 해결되어 상대적으로 높은 유기물 처리효율을 나타낸 것으로 생각된다. R1에서는 COD 부하량이 $18.6kgCOD/m^3d$에서 $28.4kgCOD/m^3d$으로 증가함에 따라 급격한 COD 제거율 감소를 보였다. 반면 R2에서는 각 OLR별로 3.61, 7.05, 9.43 그리고 $12.2kgCOD/m^3d$의 높은 COD 제거율을 보였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 10일 이상의 HRT에서 고온 호기성 소화가 고농도 음폐수 처리에 탁월한 유기물 제거율을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다.

  • The R&D budget of energy technology development has increased in the sector of korean energy technology development continuously. In addition to that, KIER, the government invested research institute and unique energy technology R&D research institute, is trying to plan for a big-sized energy R&D program for the well focused R&D and excellent research outcomes. In the phase of R&D process, the planning is one of the most important sectors because it drives the direction of R&D. In this study, we suggest the assessment criteria to select a strategic energy technology R&D programs by the analytic hierarchy process, which is one of multi-criteria decision making method (MCDM)We structure 2 tiers of hierarchy for assessing a big-sized R&D program and also establish 6 criteria in the level 1, which are energy environment, economic spin-off, technical spin-off, marketability, KIER mission, and cost. We allocate the relative weights of criteria by checking the values of consistency ratio as making pairwise comparisons. The result of this research will provide the decision makers as they select a right well focused R&D program.

CIPP모형을 활용한 R&D과제기획 선정평가 도구 개발 연구 : K연구원 중심으로 (A Study on R&D Project Planning Selection Evaluation Indicators based on CIPP model)

  • 본 연구는 K연구원의 상향식 R&D과제기획 차원의 신규 연구기획과제 선정평가를 위한 평가도구 개발에 목적을 두고 진행하였다. 이를 위해 CIPP모형과 연구기획평가를 위한 선정평가 및 평가지표에 관한 선행연구를 중심으로 R&D과제기획 선정평가 항목과 문항을 개발 한 후, 2회에 걸친 델파이 조사를 실시하였다. 개발된 평가도구는 13명의 전문가를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 내용타당도, 합의도 및 수렴도를 검증하였다. 최종 선정된 R&D과제기획 선정평가 도구는 8개 항목에 총 21개 문항으로, 상황평가 5 문항, 투입평가 2문항, 과정평가 8문항, 산출평가 6문항으로 구성되었다. 개발된 평가 도구는 상향식 기획 과정상의 문제점을 해소하고 연구자들의 기획역량을 제고하는 데 기여할 것이다. 또한, 선정평가 시 평가에 대한 일관성과 효율성 제고에 기여할 것이다.

  • This paper describes design & fabrication of RF modulator using 2um Bipolar process which convert video & audio signal into high frequency VHF/UHF signals for all TV standards. This VHF/UHF RF modulator fabricated using 2um bipolar process( T max = 5GHz) shows satisfying electrical characteristics and meets all the design targets.

  • A cryogenic Mixed Refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle was designed to be applied to the semiconductor etching process with non-flammable constituents. 3-stage cascade refrigerator, single mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigerator, and 2-stage cascade type mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigerator are analyzed to figure out the coefficient of performance. Non-flammable mixture of argon(Ar), tetrafluoromethane(R14), trifluoromethane (R23) and octafluoropropane(R218) were utilized to analyze the refrigeration cycle efficiency. The designed refrigeration cycle was adapted to cool down the coolant of HFE7200(Ethoxy-nonafluorobutane, C4F9OC2H5) with certain constraints. Maximum coefficient of performance of the refrigeration system is obtained as 0.289 for the cooling temperature lower than -100℃. The detailed result of the coefficient of performance according to the mixture composition is discussed in this study.

  • This paper presents the design and experimental analysis of a cryogenic refrigeration system for -100 ℃, primarily intended for semiconductor etching process. The refrigeration system utilizes non-flammable mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle, incorporating a precooling stage to enhance overall performance. The selected refrigerants for the system include R1234yf for the precooling stage, and Ar, R14, R23 and R218 for the main cooling stage of the Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle. Design results according to the system constraints and experimental results are discussed, including lowest evaporation temperature, compressor isentropic efficiency and overall pressure tendencies. The achieved refrigerant fraction from optimal design is Ar: R14: R23: R218 = 0.15: 0.4: 0.15: 0.3, indicating COP of 0.1118 at the isentropic compressor efficiency of 50%. The experimental result shows the developed system reaches steady state in approximately 3 hours.

  • A new LOCOS (Local Oxidation of Silicon) process using a thin nitride film directly deposited on the silicon substrate by LPCVD has been developed in order to reduce the bird's beak length. SEM studies showed that nitride thickness of 50nm can decrease the bird's beak length down to 0.2um with 450nm field oxide. No crystalline defects are observed around the bird's beak after the Wright etch. A 30% improvement in current density was obtained when this new method was applied to MOS transistors (W/L*2.9/20.4) compared to conventional LOCOS process (bird's beak length=0.7um). Other various electrical parameters improved by this new simple LOCOS process are reported in this paper.
