Influence of crack geometry on fatigue crack growth behavior in 5083- H113 aluminium alloy (5083-H113 A1 합금의 피로균열진전거동에 미치는 균열형태의 영향)

  • The fatigue crack growth and crack closure behavior of long through-thickness cracks and small half-penny shaped surface cracks were investigated in 5083-H113 Aluminum alloy under constant amplitude testing by the unloading elastic compliance method. It was found that, in the Region II, the crack growth behavior of both through-thickness and surface cracks exhibited the tri-linear form with two transitions and no concern with stress ratio R. In the Region I $I_{ab}$ and I $I_{b}$, through-thickness cracks grew faster than surface cracks in length direction, but at .DELTA. K .leq.4 MPa.root.m for R=0.1 the growth rates of surface cracks in depth direction, grew faster than those of through-thickness cracks. When the crack closure was considered, the growth rates of through-thickness cracks lay between the growth rates of depth direction and the growth rates of length direction in surface cracks. It is suspected that this was caused by the difference of crack closure at depth and length direction of surface cracks.s.

Pool boiling heat transfer enhancement by perforated plates (천공판의 풀비등 열전달 촉진에 대한 연구)

  • Several recent studies have revealed that boiling heat transfer may be considerably enhanced in a narrow restricted region. In his study, the narrow restricted region was formed by attaching a perforated plate on top of a boiling surface. Through systematic experiments, effects of the hole size, hole pattern, gap width between the perforated plate and the boiling surface were investigated using water or R-113. Results show that perforated plates considerably enhance the boiling of water or R-113. For water, especially, they have outperformed commercial enhanced tubes, which confirms that boiling enhancement mechanism of the perforated plate (thin film evaporation beneath the elongated bubble) is very effective to the boiling of high surface tension liquids such as water. Optimum configuration was found - 3.0 mm hole diameter, 15 mm * 15 mm hole pattern, 0.3 ~ 0.5 mm gap width for water, and 2.0 mm hole diameter, 3.5 mm * 3.5 mm hole pattern, O.5 mm gap width for R-113. A correlation which correlates most of the data within .+-. 30% was also developed.

Coolant Material Effect on the Heat Transfer Rates of the Molten Metal Pool with Solidification

  • Experimental studies on heat transfer and solidification of the molten metal pool with overlying coolant with boiling were performed The simulant molten pool material is tin (Sn) with the melting temperature of 232$^{\circ}C$. Demineralized water and R113 are used as the working coolant. This work examines the crust formation and the heat transfer characteristics of the molten metal pool immersed in the boiling coolant. The Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number in the molten metal Pool region of this study are compared between the water coolant case and the R113 coolant case. The experimental results or the water coolant are higher than those for R113. Also, the empirical relationship of the Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number is compared with the literature correlations measure from mercury. The present experimental results are higher than the literature correlations. It is believed that this discrepancy is caused by the effect of heat loss to the environment on the natural convection heat transfer in the molten pool.

  • HVAC&R systems account for more than 50% of the energy consumption of buildings. The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal design method for the HVAC&R system and to examine the possibility for the energy conservation of a selected system. The energy demand for cooling and heating is determined by using TRNSYS and HEET. By an interaction between total system efficiency and cooling-to-heating load ratio, the optimal HVAC&R systems will be decided. The results showed that this proposed method is significantly capable of determining optimal system and building design for saving energy.

  • A simultaneous visualization of the behavior of bubbles and dry spots has been carried out for pool boiling of R-1l3 on a horizontal heater. From video imaging and image processing analysis, the formation of bubbles and dry spots occurs simultaneously, and therefore they should be considered as a synchronized concept rather than independent identities. The dry spot density is equivalent to the active site density in the region before CHF. At CHF point, large dry areas due to the coalescence of neighboring dry areas cover the heater surface.

  • The R/C flat plate system provides architectural flexibility, clear space, reduced building height, simple formwork, which consequently enhance constructibility. One of the serious problems in the flat plate system is brittle punching shear failure due to transfer of shear force and unbalanced moments in column-slab joint. Recently, the flat plate system accompanied with shear walls to resist the lateral loads is applied to high-rise buidings. Although the flat plate system is not considered in design as part of the lateral load-resisting system, it is required that this system keeps the ductile behavior for the lateral displacement of the building. However, it is unclear whether the column-slab joint possesses ductility enough to survive the lateral deformation. The objective of this paper is to investigate the major parameters that influence the ductility of R/C flat plate system by examining the existing experiments on column-slab joint. The effects of gravity load and shear reinforcement on the ductility of the flat plate system are presented.

  • CTBA(Coupled Torsion Beam Axle) has been adapted as the rear suspension of a compact car. Because that has the advantage of cost and weight in comparison with multi-link type. But CTBA has the disadvantage in vehicle stability to become oversteer occurring toe-out of the rear wheel when cornering and braking. In this study, we suggested CTBA Geometry Compensation System to overcome the disadvantage of CTBA. We predicted braking and cornering vehicle performance from proposed equation and numerical simulation. And also, the results were compared to objective and subjective evaluation in vehicle.
