  • This paper presents the use of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) as a viable means of forecasting Inundation Damage Area (IDA) in many watersheds. In order to develop the forecasting model with various environmental factors, we selected 108 watershed areas in South Korea and collected 49 damage data sets from 1990 to 2000, of which each set is composed of 27 parameters including the IDA, rainfall amount, and land use. After successful training processes of the ANN, a good agreement (R=0.92) is obtained (under present conditions) between the measured values of the IDA and those predicted by the developed ANN using the remaining 26 data sets as input parameters. The results indicate that the inundation damage is affected by not only meteorological information such as the rainfall amount, but also various environmental characteristics of the watersheds. So, the ANN proves its present ability to predict the IDA caused by an event of complex factors in a specific watershed area using accumulated temporal-spatial information, and it also shows a potential capability to handle complex non-linear dynamic phenomena of environmental changes. In this light, the ANN can be further harnessed to estimate the importance of certain input parameters to an output (e.g., the IDA in this study), quantify the significance of parameters involved in pre-existing models, and contribute to the presumption, selection, and calibration of input parameters of conventional models.

  • The selection of an appropriate neural network algorithm is an important step for accurate data prediction in machine learning. Many algorithms based on basic artificial neural networks have been devised to efficiently predict future data. These networks include deep neural networks (DNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, and gated recurrent unit (GRU) neural networks. Developers face difficulties when choosing among these networks because sufficient information on their performance is unavailable. To alleviate this difficulty, we evaluated the performance of each algorithm by comparing their errors and processing times. Each neural network model was trained using a tax dataset, and the trained model was used for data prediction to compare accuracies among the various algorithms. Furthermore, the effects of activation functions and various optimizers on the performance of the models were analyzed The experimental results show that the GRU and LSTM algorithms yields the lowest prediction error with an average RMSE of 0.12 and an average R2 score of 0.78 and 0.75 respectively, and the basic DNN model achieves the lowest processing time but highest average RMSE of 0.163. Furthermore, the Adam optimizer yields the best performance (with DNN, GRU, and LSTM) in terms of error and the worst performance in terms of processing time. The findings of this study are thus expected to be useful for scientists and developers.

  • Recent advances in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN) have elevated them to the status of a critical instrument for overcoming spectrum limits and achieving severe future wireless communication requirements. Collaborative spectrum sensing is presented for efficient channel selection because spectrum sensing is an essential part of CRNs. This study presents an innovative cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) model that is built on the Firefly Algorithm (FA), as well as machine learning artificial neural networks (ANN). This system makes use of user grouping strategies to improve detection performance dramatically while lowering collaboration costs. Cooperative sensing wasn't used until after cognitive radio users had been correctly identified using energy data samples and an ANN model. Cooperative sensing strategies produce a user base that is either secure, requires less effort, or is faultless. The suggested method's purpose is to choose the best transmission channel. Clustering is utilized by the suggested ANN-FA model to reduce spectrum sensing inaccuracy. The transmission channel that has the highest weight is chosen by employing the method that has been provided for computing channel weight. The proposed ANN-FA model computes channel weight based on three sets of input parameters: PU utilization, CR count, and channel capacity. Using an improved evolutionary algorithm, the key principles of the ANN-FA scheme are optimized to boost the overall efficiency of the CRN channel selection technique. This study proposes the Artificial Neural Network with Firefly Algorithm (ANN-FA) for cognitive radio networks to overcome the obstacles. This proposed work focuses primarily on sensing the optimal secondary user channel and reducing the spectrum handoff delay in wireless networks. Several benchmark functions are utilized We analyze the efficacy of this innovative strategy by evaluating its performance. The performance of ANN-FA is 22.72 percent more robust and effective than that of the other metaheuristic algorithm, according to experimental findings. The proposed ANN-FA model is simulated using the NS2 simulator, The results are evaluated in terms of average interference ratio, spectrum opportunity utilization, three metrics are measured: packet delivery ratio (PDR), end-to-end delay, and end-to-average throughput for a variety of different CRs found in the network.

  • As interest in advanced countries regarding the convergence technology development increases, a methodology for identifying the core convergence technology that has a large spill-over effect on the technology and industry is required for the nation's competitiveness enhancement in the convergence technology field. Based on patent citation network analysis using 1,124 USPTO patents in the ICT convergence technology field of the smart factory, this study examined the proposed heterogeneous technology convergence index as a tool for measuring the convergence characteristics of the spillovers compared to other indexes (i.e. other sector ratio index and homogeneous technology convergence index). The proposed heterogeneous technology convergence index was used to investigate core technology sectors among ICT technology sectors of smart factory identified by government ministries. Results found 6 core ICT convergence technology sectors including the manufacturing execution analysis application sector. Also, this study conducted blockmodeling analysis using the IPC codes of patents in the manufacturing execution analysis application sector, and identified that the blocks representing the electronic communication and electric digital data processing technology sectors (Block 3 & 4) are related technology sectors which can be converged with core technology. Based on the findings, the implications for the convergence technology development planning of the smart factory field are discussed.

  • A model was developed using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA), to accurately predict the air humidity inside an experimental greenhouse located in Daegu (latitude $35.53^{\circ}N$, longitude $128.36^{\circ}E$, and altitude 48 m), South Korea. The weather parameters, air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, and carbon dioxide inside and outside the greenhouse were monitored and measured by mounted sensors. Through the PCA of the data samples, three main components were used as the input data, and the measured inside humidity was used as the output data for the ALYUDA forecaster software of the ANN model. The Nash-Sutcliff Model Efficiency Coefficient (NSE) was used to analyze the difference between the experimental and the simulated results, in order to determine the predictive power of the ANN software. The results obtained revealed the variables that affect the inside air humidity through a sensitivity analysis graph. The measured humidity agreed well with the predicted humidity, which signifies that the model has a very high accuracy and can be used for predictions based on the computed $R^2$ and NSE values for the training and validation samples.

  • The objective of this work is to apply artificial neural networks for solving inverse problems in the structural optimization of a fiber optic pressure sensor. For the sensor under investigation to achieve a desired accuracy, the change in the distance between the tips of the two fibers due to the applied pressure should not interfere with the phase change due to the change in the density of the air between the two fibers. Therefore, accurate dynamic analysis and structural optimization of the sensor is essential to ensure the accuracy of the measurements provided by the sensor. To this end, a normal mode analysis and a transient response analysis of the sensor were performed by combining commercial finite element analysis package, MSC/NASTRAN, and MATLAB. Furthermore, a parametric study on the design of the sensor was performed to minimize the size of the sensor while fulfilling a number of constraints. In performing the parametric study, the need for a relationship between the design parameters and the response of the sensor was fulfilled by using a neural network. The whole process of the dynamic analysis using commercial finite element analysis package and the parameter optimization of the sensor were automated within the MATLAB environment.

  • The article deals with the problems of application of microwave methods in systems of geoecological monitoring of natural environments and resources of the agro-industrial complex. It is noted that the methods of microwave radiometry make it possible, by the power of the measured intrinsic radio-thermal radiation of the atmosphere, when solving inverse problems using empirical and semi-empirical models, to determine such parameters of the atmosphere as thermodynamic temperature, humidity, water content, moisture content, precipitation intensity, and the presence of different fractions of clouds. In addition to assessing the meteorological parameters of the atmosphere and the geophysical parameters of the underlying surface based on the data of microwave radiometric measurements, it is possible to promptly detect and study pollution of both the atmosphere and the earth's surface. A technique has been developed for the analysis of sources of measurement error and their numerical evaluation, because they have a significant effect on the accuracy of solving inverse problems of reconstructing the values of the physical parameters of the probed media. To analyze the degree of influence of the limited spatial selectivity of the antenna of the microwave radiometric system on the measurement error, we calculated the relative measurement error of the ratio of radio brightness contrasts in two angular directions. It has been determined that in the system of geoecological monitoring of natural environments, the effect of background noise is maximal with small changes in the radiobrightness temperature during angular scanning and high sensitivity of the receiving equipment.

  • For producing cement and concrete, the construction field has been encouraged by the usage of industrial soil waste (or) secondary materials since it decreases the utilization of natural resources. Simultaneously, for ensuring the quality, the analyses of the strength along with durability properties of that sort of cement and concrete are required. The prediction of strength along with other properties of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) by optimization and machine learning algorithms are focused by already available research methods. However, an error and accuracy issue are possessed. Therefore, the Enhanced Deep Neural Network (EDNN) based strength along with durability prediction of HPC was utilized by this research method. Initially, the data is gathered in the proposed work. Then, the data's pre-processing is done by the elimination of missing data along with normalization. Next, from the pre-processed data, the features are extracted. Hence, the data input to the EDNN algorithm which predicts the strength along with durability properties of the specific mixing input designs. Using the Switched Multi-Objective Jellyfish Optimization (SMOJO) algorithm, the weight value is initialized in the EDNN. The Gaussian radial function is utilized as the activation function. The proposed EDNN's performance is examined with the already available algorithms in the experimental analysis. Based on the RMSE, MAE, MAPE, and R2 metrics, the performance of the proposed EDNN is compared to the existing DNN, CNN, ANN, and SVM methods. Further, according to the metrices, the proposed EDNN performs better. Moreover, the effectiveness of proposed EDNN is examined based on the accuracy, precision, recall, and F-Measure metrics. With the already-existing algorithms i.e., JO, GWO, PSO, and GA, the fitness for the proposed SMOJO algorithm is also examined. The proposed SMOJO algorithm achieves a higher fitness value than the already available algorithm.
