Agrivoltaic System (AVS) was introduced with the concept that it could generate electricity by using the extra light remain after crops use for photosynthesis in farm, which can earn additional income. However, crop yield was declined under the AVS condition due to the decrease in light energy. In the past, many researchers have been studied about crop states under shading conditions. However, the phenomenon of partial shading such as under the AVS is not well studied. In this study, to figure out the response of crop under the different light conditions, the electron transport rate (ETR) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) of rice was investigated using the chlorophyll fluorescence measurement. Also, physiological changes of crops under the shading conditions were investigated. The growth experiment under partial shading under AVS and overall shading which made of 35% shade cloth was conducted to understand the eco-physiological responses of rice to light in terms of the photosynthesis. Under the shading conditions, SPAD value and chlorophyll contents were higher, but the leaf thickness was lower than control. The overall shading condition show lower ETR than others during the growing season. In contrast, NPQ was higher than other treatments. This means the available light energy cannot contribute to photosynthesis under the shading condition.
600 MPa-grade deformed bar samples were manufactured by conventional hot rolling and subsequent Tempcore heat treatment processes. Considering the short-time water quenching step of the Tempcore process for hot-rolled steel, it is inevitable that the temperature profile of the deformed bar depends strongly on its position throughout the sample thickness. As a result, its microstructure can be easily divided into two regions, the surface and the core regions. The former is expected to have a fresh martensite microstructure under rapid cooling conditions, but self-tempering occurs due to the intense heat flow from the hot core region after the process. The latter is generally known to exhibit a mixed microstructure of ferrite and pearlite due to its slow cooling rate. In this study, detailed microstructural evolutions were examined through the thickness direction. The large variation of the microstructure through the thickness direction in the deformed bar samples is partly due to the easy carbon diffusion from the limited additions of alloying elements.
XRD results on annealing studies of Na-feldspars (Amelia albite) show rapid changes in the lattice parameters of the $1073^{\circ}C$-heated samples owing to disordering of Al and Si as well as lattice distortions upon quenching of the heated specimens. While a low albite transformed to a high albite by 7-days annealing at $1073^{\circ}C$, it remains as an early intermediate albite even by 140-days annealing at $924^{\circ}C$ due to the slower Al-Si disordering rate. From the heated samples tweed structures of $100∼200\AA$ were typically observed by TEM, which showed different ways of development between the $1073^{\circ}C$ -heated one and the $923 ^{\circ}C$ -heated one. The former locally trans-farmed to rnicrostructures similar to albite twin, while the latter transformed to domain structures containing albite twin plane in the wider area. The origin of tweed structures is suggested to be formation of incipient twins (albite twin and pericline twin) to reduce the lattice instability which is increased by disordering of Al and Si as well as quenching.

To reveal the relationship between the changes in the growth and photo- synthesis induced by low dose radiation, red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) plants were serially irradiated three times with gamma rays of 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 4 Gy. The plant growth was monitored by the fresh weight, the stem length, and the leaf length & width. All the irradiation groups (0.5-4 Gy) were stimulated in growth at 1 day after the $1^{st}$ irradiation (DA1I), but rather inhibited at 3 days after the $3^{rd}$ irradiation (DA3I). The maximum photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), the photochemical quenching (qP), the non-:photochemical quenching (NPQ) and the apparent rate of the photosynthetic electron transport (ETR) were used to represent the changes in the photosynthesis by the serial irradiation. The irradiation groups except 0.5 Gy had higher Fv/Fm values at 3 DA3I than the control one. After the 3$^{rd}$ irradiation, the qP values appeared to be a little lower in the 1-4 Gy groups than in the control and 0.5 Gy ones. In contrast, the NPQ values were rather higher in the irradiation groups except 0.5 Gy. During the whole experimental period, the ETRs decreased in the control group but remained relatively constant in the 4-Gy one. In conclusion, the results obtained indicate that the stimulatory effect of ionizing radiation on the plant growth was determined by the incident dose of the single irradiation rather than by the cumulative one of the serial irradiation. They also demonstrate that the growth stimulation induced by a low dose radiation could not be positively correlated with an alteration in the photosynthesis. Additionally, we discuss in text that an ionizing radiation may partly protect the leaf senescence by delaying the development of the plants.
Effects of the microalloyed elements, temperatures and cooling rates on the strength and toughness of the medium carbon microalloyed hot forging steels obtained by air cooling(A.C.) method and the low carbon microalloyed forging steels by direct quenching(D.Q.) method were investigated. Combined additions of V+Nb produced the optimum combination of strength and toughness with ferrite-pearlite structure of the medium carbon steel by the A.C. method. 831MPa in UTS and 52.1J in toughness were obtained for 0.40c+0.12V+0.07Nb. It was martensite structure for the low carbon steel by the D.Q. method. The highest UTS and toughness obtained by Mo additions were 855MPa and 108j by 0.12C+0.10V+0.03Nb+1.13Mo respectively. Especially, the toughness of the low carbon steel was twice better than that of the medium carbon steel. 110$0^{\circ}C$was more appropriate than 120$0^{\circ}C$ for the reheating and forging temperature and 1.$2^{\circ}C$ /s was the best cooling rate from the viewpoint of the strength and toughness. Multiple regression analysis was used to quantify the influence of the microalloyed elements, temperatures and cooling rates on the strength, toughness, austenite grain size, and the pearlite interlamellar spacing.
As essential trace elements, copper and zinc play important roles in many physiological events in plants. In excess, however, these elements can limit plant growth. This study selected a heavy metal-tolerant plant by analyzing seed germination and biomass of alfalfa (Medicago sativa), canola (Brassica campestris subsp. napus var. nippo-oleifera), Chinese corn (Setaria italica), and a sorghum-sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolor ${\times}$ S. sudanense), and determined heavy metal uptake capacity by analyzing biomass, chlorophyll a fluorescence, and heavy metal contents under high external copper or zinc levels. The seed germination rate and biomass of the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid were higher under copper or zinc stress compared to the other three plants. The plant biomass and photosynthetic pigment contents of the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid seedlings were less vulnerable under low levels of heavy metals (${\leq}50ppm$ copper or ${\leq}400ppm$ zinc). The maximum quantum yield of PSII ($F_v/F_m$) and the maximum primary yield of PSII ($F_v/F_o$) decreased with increasing copper or zinc levels. Under high copper levels, the decline in $F_v/F_m$ was caused only by the decline in $F_m$, and was accompanied by an increase in non-photochemical quenching (NPQ). The $F_v/F_m$ declined under high levels of zinc due to both a decrease in the maximum fluorescence ($F_m$) and an increase in the initial fluorescence ($F_o$), and this was accompanied by a marked decrease in photochemical quenching (qP), but not by an increase in NPQ. Accumulations of copper and zinc were found in both aboveand below-ground parts of plants, but were greater in the below-ground parts. The uptake capacity of the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid for copper and zinc reached 4459.1 mg/kg under 400 ppm copper and 9028.5 mg/kg under 1600 ppm zinc. Our results indicate that the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid contributes to the in situ phytoremediation of copper or zinc polluted soils due to its high biomass yield.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of composting of vegetable wastes containing high moisture. The parameters investigated were the effect of energy source addition, difference in bulking agent and recirculation of leachate produced during composting. Laboratory scale composting reactors were used in this study. Chinese cabbages were used as a vegetable waste. Dog food was added to the vegetable waste as a energy source. Wood chips and leaves of platan were used as bulking agents. There may be an appropriate amount of energy source to be added for composting high moisture content vegetable waste. In this study, the appropriate amount of energy source was 20% of the vegetable waste by weight basis. Recirculation of total amount of leachate produced each day on the same day may not be an appropriate approach due to the significant heat-quenching effect. When the total amount of leachate produced was equally devided and recirculated everyday through the whole composting period, the heat-quenching effect was comparatively less significant. There were no notable differences in the temperature profile and the $CO_2$ evoluation rate when leaves were used instead of wood chips as bulking agents. Considering waste recycling, it is desirable to use leaf waste as bulking agents if available, because the leaves are also wastes to be disposed of.
Intramolecular excimerization of 1,3-di(1-pyrenyl)propane (Py-3-Py) and fluorescence polarization of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) were used to examine the effects of ethanol on the rate and range of lateral diffusion of bulk bilayer structures of plasma membrane vesicles isolated from cultured mouse myeloma cell line Sp2/0-Ag14 (Sp2/0-PMV). In a concentration-dependent manner, ethanol increased the excimer to monomer fluorescence intensity ratio (I'/I) of Py-3-Py in the Sp2/0-PMV and decreased the anisotropy (r), limiting anisotropy $(r_{\infty})$, and order parameter (S) of DPH in the Sp2/0-PMV. This indicates that ethanol increased both the lateral and rotational diffusion of the probes in the Sp2/0-PMV. Selective quenching of DPH by trinitrophenyl groups was utilized to examine the transbilayer asymmetric rotational diffusion of the Sp2/0-PMV. The anisotropy (r), limiting anisotropy $(r_{\infty})$, and order parameter (S) of DPH in the inner monolayer were 0.022, 0.029, and 0.063, respectively, greater than calculated for the outer monolayer of the Sp2/0-PMV. Selective quenching of DPH by trinitrophenyl groups was also utilized to examine the transbilayer asymmetric effects of ethanol on the range of rotational diffusion of the Sp2/0-PMV. Ethanol had a greater fluidizing effect on the outer monolayer as compared to the inner monolayer of the Sp2/0-PMV. It has been proven that ethanol exhibits a selective rather than nonselective fluidizing effect within transbilayer domains of the Sp2/0-PMV.
Background: Ginsenoside Rh2 (G-Rh2) is a ginseng saponin that is widely investigated because of its remarkable antitumor activity. However, the molecular mechanism by which (20S) G-Rh2 triggers its functions and how target animals avoid its cytotoxic action remains largely unknown. Methods: Phage display was used to screen the human targets of (20S) G-Rh2. Fluorescence spectroscopy and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy were used to confirm the interaction of candidate target proteins and (20S) G-Rh2. Molecular docking was utilized to calculate the estimated free energy of binding and to structurally visualize their interactions. MTT assay and immunoblotting were used to assess whether human serum albumin (HSA), bovine serum albumin (BSA), and bovine serum can reduce the cytotoxic activity of (20S) G-Rh2 in HepG2 cells. Results: In phage display, (20S) G-Rh2-beads and (20R) G-Rh2-beads were combined with numerous kinds of phages, and a total of 111 different human complementary DNAs (cDNA) were identified, including HSA which had the highest rate. The binding constant and number of binding site in the interaction between (20S)-Rh2 and HSA were $3.5{\times}10^5M^{-1}$ and 1, and those in the interaction between (20S) G-Rh2 and BSA were $1.4{\times}10^5M^{-1}$ and 1. The quenching mechanism is static quenching. HSA, BSA and bovine serum significantly reduced the proapoptotic effect of (20S) G-Rh2. Conclusion: HSA and BSA interact with (20S) G-Rh2. Serum inhibited the activity of (20S) G-Rh2 mainly due to the interaction between (20S) G-Rh2 and serum albumin (SA). This study proposes that HSA may enhance (20S) G-Rh2 water solubility, and thus might be used as nanoparticles in the (20S) G-Rh2 delivery process.
To investigate the synergistic effects of low dose gamma irradiation and growth regulators on the growth and photosynthesis in rice (Oryza sativa L.), laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted using 4-year-old rice seeds. In the laboratory experiment, the germination rate was increased in 0.001 ppm IBA treatment, showing the synergistic effect of gamma irradiation and growth regulators. The seedling growth was increased by treatment of GA₃ and IBA, the irradiated groups having higher than the non-irradiated ones. Particularly, it was remarkable in 0.001 ppm IBA. In greenhouse experiment, seedling growth was increased in response to a combination of gamma irradiation and 0.001 ppm IBA. Effective quantum yield of PSⅡ(Ф/sub PSⅡ/) and photochemical quenching (qP) were increased, while non-photochemical quenching (qN) was decreased by 0.001 ppm IBA. A synergistic effect of gamma irradiation and IBA was only found in seedling growth. The present results suggest that low dose gamma irradiation and growth regulator could synergistically stimulate seedling growth.
