액체/초임계 이산화탄소의 QCM을 이용한 초음파 세척 효과 연구

  • Quartz Crystal Microbalance(QCM)은 표면에 묻은 물질의 미량의 무게변화도 간단히 측정 할 수 있어 반웅기 내에서 일어나는 현상올 in-situ로 즉시 알 수 있는 장점을 가진 장치이 다. 이 장치를 이용하면 초엄계 이산화탄소 내에서 용해도를 알 수 있고, 대상물질이 녹아냐 가는 속도를 측정하면 확산계수를 구할 수 있다. 그리고, 초음파 혼을 반응용기 내에 설치하 고, 초음파 효과를 알아보았다. 먼저 static system에서 초음파 효과를 알아보았다. Cu(acac)2를 대상으로, 밀폐된 용기에서 수행한 실험에서, 액체와 초임계 이산화탄소 내에서 용해속도를 QCM으로 구할 수 있었다. 용해속도로부터 Cu(acac)2의 확산계수를 측정할 수 있었다. 액체 내에선 $10^{-4}{\;}cm2/sec$, 초임계상태에서 $10^{-2}{\;}cm2/sec$의 값을 갖는 것으로 나타 났다. 그리고, 초음파를 사용할 경우 이 확산계수값이 4-5배정도 증가하는 것으로 냐타났다. 이어서 dynamic system에서 반응을 알아보았다. Cyanex를 함유한 C02를 반응용기에 흘리 면서 QCM표면에 묻은 Co이온의 용해속도를 측정하였다. 초음파는 용해도에 아무 역활을 안하는 것으로 나타났다. 주어진 조건에서 13 microgram/gram-cyanex의 용해도를 갖는 것 으로 나타났다.

Hydrogen Absorption and Electronic Property Change of Yttrium Thin Films

  • Yttrium thin film, 580nm thick, was prepared by electron beam evaporation. Film was hydrogenated room temperature upto 40 bar hydrogen pressure, without any activation process. Hydrogen concentration was determined by a quartz-crystal microbalance(QCM) method. YH2.9 sample was made without any pulverization. Electrical resistance was measured by four-point DC method in the temperature range between room temperature and 30K for various hydrogen concentration, x=0 to 2.9 of YHx sample. Temperature dependent resistance of YH2.9 shows low temperature minimum at 105K, the metal-semiconductor transition at 260K, and a hystersis above 210K.

  • Stearic acid was deposited on surface of 9[MHz], AT-cut quartz crystal microbalance as gas sensing material using Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique. We measured gas response between deposited LB films and organic gas for various temperature($0{\sim}80^{\circ}C$). The resonant frequency changed due to absorbance of organic gas such as methanol and butanol gas at room temperature. However, the resonant frequency not responded to methanol gas at temperature above melting point of deposited LB films.

Suppression of silicon clusters using a grid mesh under DC bias

  • Si clusters generated during the plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process have a great influence on the quality of the fabricated films. In particular, in hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin films (a-Si:H) used for thin film solar cells, Si clusters are mainly responsible for light-induced degradation. In this study, we investigated the amount of clusters incorporated into thin films using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and specially designed cluster eliminating filters, and investigated the effect of the DC grid mesh in preventing cluster incorporation. Experimental results showed that as the applied voltage of the grid mesh, which is placed between the electrode and the QCM, decreased, the number of clusters incorporated into the film decreased. This is due to the electrostatic force from the grid mesh bias, and this method is expected to contribute to the fabrication of high-quality thin films by preventing Si cluster incorporation.

  • It is well known that the metallophthalocyanine (MPcs) are sensitive to toxic gaseous molecules such as $NO_2$ and also chemically and thermally stable. Therefore, lots of MPcs are studied for the potential chemical sensor for $NO_2$ gas using quartz crystal microbalance(QCM) or electrical conductivity. In this study, thin films of octa(2-ethylhexyloxy) copper-phthalocyanine were prepared by Langmuir-Blodgett method and characterized by using UV-VIS spectrascopy and ellipsometry. Transfer condition, film characterization, and preliminary results of current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of these films exposed to $NO_2$ gas as a function of film thickness will be discussed.

  • We fabricated the monolayers onto QCM by self-assembly using viologen, which has been widely used as electron acceptor. A gold electrode of the QCM was cleaned by piranha solution and prepared the ethanol-acetonitrile(1:1) solution with 2 m mol/l viololgen compounding of pure hi gas. We determined the time dependence to resonant frequency shift during self-assembly process and the electrochemical behavior of the self-assembled viologen monolayers by cyclic voltammetry. With increasing scan rate, the redox peak current of the viologen increased linearly. This was signified that the redox reaction was reversible. The EQCM measurements revealed the anions transfer during redox reactions, respectively. From the EQCM data, the well-defined shape peaks were nearly equal charges by cyclic voltammetry.

  • Molecular self-assembled of surfactant viologen are of recent interest because they can from functional electrodes as well as micellar assemblies, which can be profitably utilized for display devices, photoelectrochemical studies and electrocatalysis as electron acceptor or electron mediator. Fromherz et al studied the self-assembly of thiol and disulfide derivatives of viologens bearing long n-alkyl chains on Au electrode surface[1]. The electrochemical behavior of self-assembled viologen monolayer has been investigated with QCM, which has been known as nano-gram order mass detector. The self-assembly process of viologen was monitored using resonant frequency(ΔF) and resonant resistance(R). The redox process of viologen was observed with resonant frequency(ΔF).

  • In order to overcome the weak actuation and relaxation problems during the deformation of IPMC actuator, polymeric anion (polystyrenesulfonate)-doped polypyrrole(Ppy(PSS)) was electrodeposited onto IPMC actuator. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance study showed that hydrated cations were instilled into Ppy(PSS) film and polymeric-anion dopants introduced during polymerization were not expelled. Ppy(PSS)-coated IPMC actuator formed two electrode/electrolyte interfaces, Pt/nafion and Ppy(PSS)/bulk solution, and additive volume expansion phenomena at interfaces induced the large deformation compensating the relaxation of actuation by back diffusion of water.

  • $CO_2$ separation from a flue gas by using the gas hydrate technology was suggested by Kang et al. They reported phase equilibrium conditions of mixed gases composed of $CO_2$ and N2 with THF as a thermodynamic promoter. In this study, we reported the phase equilibrium conditions of a mixed gas which had a realistic composition of the blast furnace gas (BFG) emitted from the steel-making process. The phase equilibrium measurements were done by using the "continuous" QCM method, and the results demonstrate that this method is efficient and as accurate as the conventional temperature search method.
