Synchronous computing models provided by real-time synchrony protocols, such as TTA [1] and PALS [2], greatly simplify the design, implementation, and verification of real-time distributed systems. However, their application to real systems has been limited since their assumptions on underlying systems are hard to satisfy. In particular, most previous real-time synchrony protocols hypothesize the existence of underlying fault tolerant real-time networks. This, however, might not be true in most soft real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to a synchrony protocol, called Quality-Aware PALS (qPALS), which provides the benefits of a synchronous computing model in environments where no fault-tolerant real-time network is available. qPALS supports two flexible global synchronization protocols: one tailored for the performance and the other for the correctness of synchronization. Hence, applications can make a negotiation flexibly between performance and correctness. In qPALS, the Quality-of-Service (QoS) on synchronization and consistency is specified in a probabilistic manner, and the specified QoS is supported under dynamic and unpredictable network environments via a control-theoretic approach. Our simulation results show that qPALS supports highly reliable synchronization for critical events while still supporting the efficiency and performance even when the underlying network is not stable.
The goal of this research was to develop a portable system that could be used to evaluate the quality of milk in real time at a raw milk production site. A real-time portable quality evaluation system for raw milk was developed to enable non-destructive quality evaluation of somatic cell count (SCC), fat, protein, lactose, and total solid (TS) in milk samples. A prediction model of SCC, fat, protein, lactose, and TS was constructed using partial least squares (PLS) and 200 milk samples were used to evaluate the prediction performance of the portable quality evaluation system and high performance spectroscopy. Through prediction model development and verification, it was found that the accuracy of high performance spectroscopy was 90% for SSC, 96% for fat, 96% for protein, 91% for lactose, and 97% for TS. In comparison, the accuracy of the portable quality evaluation system was relatively low, at 90% for SSC, 95% for fat, 92% for protein, 89% for lactose, 92% for TS. However, the measurement time for high performance spectroscopy was 10 minutes for 1 sample, while for the portable quality evaluation system it was 6 minutes. This means that the high performance spectroscopy system can measure 48 samples per day (8 hours), while the portable quality evaluation system can measure 80 (8 hours). Therefore, it was found that the portable quality evaluation system enables quick on-site quality evaluation of milk samples.
Clinical laboratories endeavor to secure quality by establishing effective quality management systems. However, laboratory environments are complex, and single quality control procedures may inadequately detect many errors. Patient-based real-time quality control (PBRTQC) is a laboratory tool that monitors the testing process using algorithms such as Bull's algorithm and several variables, such as average of normal, moving median, moving average, and exponentially weighted moving average. PBRTQC has many advantages over conventional quality control, including low cost, commutability, continuous real-time performance monitoring, and sensitivity to pre-analytical errors. However, PBRTQC is not easily implemented as it requires statistical algorithm selection, the design of appropriate rules and protocols, and performance verification. This review describes the basic concepts, methods, and procedures of PBRTQC and presents guidelines for implementing a patient-based quality management system. Furthermore, we propose the combined use of PBRTQC when the performance of internal quality control is limited. However, clinical evaluations were not conducted during this review, and thus, future evaluation is required.
Purpose : Recently, many quality issues are aroused in military forces, such as failures in K-series weapons, combat uniforms' defects and 40mm ammunition explosion accident. To address these problems, Defense Agency for Technology and Quality(DTaQ) introduced new systems such as Manufacturing Readiness Assessment(MRA), Test Report Information System(TRIS) and so on. However, these activities require the human and time resources which cannot be increased in short period. In this paper, we suggest more practical and efficient product examination method. Methods : The most popular and widely used government's quality assurance technique is a sampling method to examine the product. In this research, we first reviewed the DTaQ's quality assurance regulation, then identified several possible problems and finally suggested more efficient and effective sampling plans. Results : We have suggested new sampling framework and evaluated its performance on two military supplies by comparing with other sampling method, and observed that the number of tested samples can be substantially reduced. Therefore, required quality assurance time can be saved. Conclusion : In this paper, we first reviewed the product examination frameworks of DTaQ, PPQMS and DCMA. Then we identified several possible problems which can cause the loss of objectivity and time. To handle these problems, we suggested the new product examination framework and tested the framework to verify the performance.

Objectives: The purposes of the study were to analyze the temporal variation of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and particulate matter (PM) in daycare centers and evaluate the appropriateness of the official test method of one-time measurement. Methods: Indoor air quality in 46 daycare centers in the Seoul Metropolitan Area was measured as specified in the official test method of Indoor Air Quality Management law. In addition, indoor air quality in the 46 daycare centers was measured over 37 days using a real-time monitor (AirGuard K). Results: The daily means of $CO_2$ and PM in the 46 daycare centers were $1042.74{\pm}134.45ppm$ and $67.60{\pm}18.25{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. Indoor air quality in the daycare centers showed significant temporal fluctuation. Measurements for single days were significantly different from the 37-day average exposure. Relative error of short term exposure decreased with an increase in the number of sampling days. The noncompliance rate for $CO_2$ using the official testing method was 2.17%, and none exceeded the $PM_{10}$ standard of $100{\mu}g/m^3$. With monitoring over 37 days, the daily noncompliance rate for $CO_2$ was 50.4% and the daily noncompliance rate for PM was 13.8%. Conclusions: When the official test method evaluates the indoor air at daycare centers one day per year, the results may not represent actual indoor air quality over a longer period of time. Real-time monitoring devices could be an alternative for managing indoor air quality.

The four variables constitute in HOS are staffing, materials, production process and storage together with transportation. By focusing on HOS, the manufacturers reinforce improvement in quality, cost control, time and flexibility of the production Halal food industry in Malaysia which is the performance objective of market competitiveness in Malaysia context. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and used to assess the significant of HOS that lead to improve quality, cost control, reduction in time and the flexibility among Halal food manufacturers in Malaysia. From a total of 443 Halal food manufacturers were involved in this study, only 137 respondents are usable for this research. The study showed significant results for the manufacturers to focus in Halal Orientation strategy (HOS) which have positive impacts on quality, cost control, time and flexibility. This research aimed to measure the HOS among food firms in Malaysia and to determine HOS in relation with the performance objective of operational outcomes.
Purpose : Inadequate chest compression during cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) may result in the insufficient blood flow to preserve critical organ function. The study evaluated changes of quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation over time in 30:2 CPR by laypersons and analyzed rescuer factors affecting the quality of chest compressions over time. Methods : This study was designed to know quality of CPR changes during 5 minutes. 47 students completed CPR training courses. They were performed 30:2 CPR using a manikin with Skill-Reporter for 5 minutes continuously to get data of depth, rate of chest compression, volume and correct rate of ventilation. Results : Time dependent analysis showed significant ineffective compression depth in females and under weight rescuers. In case of female, we found effective compression depth has maintained up to 2 minutes, but it decreased significantly after 2 minutes. However, underweight rescuers maintained effective compression depth up to a minute but it decreased after 1 minute. Conclusion : Although compression rate maintained over time, chest compression quality declined significantly. It suggested switching compression at an interval of 2 minutes is reasonable for 30:2 CPR by layperson but underweight rescuers may provide effective chest compression by switching shift every one minute.
