The attainment ratios of the water quality goals of the 114 mid-watershed representative stations, examined during the period2011 to 2015, were evaluated in the study. Of the four major river basins, the attainment ratio on water quality goal of the Geum River basin turned out to be the lowest. As a result of formal evaluation of the attainment ratios of BOD, COD and TOC, it was found that the attainment ratio of COD was much lower than that of BOD and TOC (I a circumstance thought to be caused by the higher COD/BOD and COD/TOC ratios of the water quality of the river than those of the environmental water quality standard). As well, higher COD/BOD and COD/TOC of wastewater discharged from point and non-point sources (other than those of the environmental water quality standards) might possibly represent one of the reasons. We also compared attainment ratio between the main stream and tributaries, which indicated that the higher attainment ratio was present in the main stream. The attainment ratio is also documented as more significant in the winter season than the summer season, possibly due to the contribution of non-point pollutants swept in by rain during the summer season during documented periods of high precipitation. Thus, water quality management in summer season and improvement of water quality of the tributaries might be important as a means of increasing attainment ratio on water quality goal.
This study discussed the appropriateness of organic matter indexes such as biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) and chemical oxygen demand with potassium permanganate($COD_{Mn}$) in water quality environmental standard of streams and lakes and the applicability of the items to water quality environmental standard to add or substitute COD with potassium dichromate ($COD_{Cr}$) and total organic carbon(TOC) being used as index of organic matter. And indexes of organic matter content and organic carbon concentration were distinguished between dissolved and particulate component in water sample to estimate their effect on pollutants loading in lake and stream. The ratio of $COD_{Cr}$/BOD was 5.1 under BOD concentration 3mg/L in river water quality environmental standard II, and 2.67 above it. This ratio was diminished to 2.04 when BOD concentration was more than 8mg/L, in river quality environmental standard IV. Also the ratio of $COD_{Mn}$/BOD showed 2.16 under 3mg/L(BOD), and 1.1 above it. This ratio is also diminished to 0.84 over 8mg/L(BOD). Accordingly, we should apply this ratio depending on the concentration level to add and change organic matter index of water quality environmental standard newly. The ratio $COD_{Cr}/COD_{Mn}$ both in lake and stream shows 2.37(r=0.986, p<0.001). But the ratios showed range of 2.34~2.50, which is no much difference of this ratio according to $COD_{Mn}$ concentration.
It is necessary to evaluate performances hitherto carried out in the management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and to set up direction so that this system can be improved continuously in the future. This study was investigated load allocation achievement ratio, water quality goal achievement ratio and interrelation between water quality goal and load allocation for the first period (2004~2010). Load allocation achievement and BOD water quality goal achievement ratio were 50% and 73% in Guem River Basin, respectively. The main reason for excess of load allocation and shortfall of water quality goal were unfulfilled reduction plan and pollution sources increment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop enhanced pollution sources prediction method and make a list realizable reduction plan. 63% of the unit watershed was not interrelation between water quality goal and load allocation. The reason why water quality goal and load allocation had not correlation were water quality of upper unit watershed, increment of inflow quantity, effluent water quality of wastewater treatment plant affected the unit watershed, increment of inner productivity by algae, water quality deterioration during the specific period, river management flow, etc.

In parameter design introduced by Taguchi, we analyze a signal-to-noise(SN) ratio. The SN ratio is a function of the expected loss due to the variation of quality characteristic. In this paper, an easy way for developing SN ratios is presented, which can be used to several quality characteristics simultaneously in parameter design. To develop such multivariate SN ratios, the transformation method of the expected loss and combining techniques are employed. And the analysis of real empirical data for an application of the proposed method is also presented.
Performance variations in mixture products such as medicine, food, and chemicals can be caused by their own subcomponents. For instance, a discharge capacity of a lithium-ion battery depends upon the mixture ratio of ethylene, dimethyle, and ethyle-methyle, all of which are subcomponents of an electrolyte solution in the battery. Thus it is crucial to determine tolerances of the mixture ratio in order to maintain the product quality at a desired level. This paper is concerned with the tolerance design of the mixture ratio. In particular, minimizing variance around the mixture ratio is adopted as a decision criterion in this paper. An illustrative example with multiple quality characteristics is given as well.
According to the technical guideline of water pollutant load management, the rainfall captured ratio which can be estimated by the empirical formula is an important element to estimate reduction loads of non-point pollutants water quality control basin. In this study, the rainfall captured ratio is altered to stormwater captured ratio considering its meaning in the technical guideline of water pollutant load management, and the new empircal formula of stormwater captured ratio is suggested. In order to do this, we calculate stormwater captured ratio by using the hourly rainfall data of seven urban weather stations (Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gangreung, Seoul, Gwangju, and Jeju) for 43 years. The regression coefficients of the existed empirical formula cannot reflect the catchment properties at all, because they are fixed values regardless of regions. However the empirical formula of stormwater captured ratio has flexible regression coefficients by runoff coefficient(C), so it is allowed to consider the characteristics of runoff in catchment. It is expected that reduction loads of storage based water quality control basin can be more reasonably estimated than before.
This study attempted to provide a spectrum analysis for quantitative evaluation of singing voice quality of singing students rather than the presence or absence of the singer's formant. The regression analysis was used to analyse the relationship between ringing quality, SPR, and SPP of singing voice of college student subjects majoring in music. This study measured singing. power ratio (SPR) in 41 singing students. Digital audio recordings were made in sung vowels for acoustic analyses. Each sample was judged by 1 experienced singing teacher and 4 voice pathologists on one semantic bipolar 7-point scales (ringing-dull). The results showed that the SPR and SPP had significant correlations with ringing quality. The SPR had a significant relationship with ringing quality on singing voice in singing students. The SPR can be an important quantitative measurement for evaluating singing voice quality.
This study was performed to evaluate objective visual quality and ocular scattering in myopic refractive-surgery patients, compared to emmetropes. Optical vision-quality parameters (modulation transfer function (MTF) cutoff and Strehl ratio) and objective scattering index (OSI) were measured using an optical quality analysis system (OQAS II) based on the double-pass technique. In all subjects, the higher the MTF cutoff and Strehl ratio, the lower the OSI and ocular higher-order aberrations (HOAs). The MTF cutoff and Strehl ratio for the laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK) group were lower than those for the emmetropia group, while the OSI, ocular HOAs, and spherical aberration (SA) for the LASEK group were higher than those for emmetropia group. Ocular scattering would be one of the important factors in regard to visual quality. Therefore, the quality of the retinal image in the LASEK patients has been shown to reduce the quality of vision more than in the emmetropes.
Theoretical total nitrogen removal efficiency and reactor volume ratio in oxic-anoxic-oxic system can be found by influent water quality in this study. The influent water quality items for calculation were ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, alkalinity, and COD which can affect nitrification and denitrification reaction. Total nitrogen removal efficiency depends on influent allocation ratio. The total nitrogen removal follows the equation of 1/(1+b). Optimal reactor volume ratio for maximum TN removal efficiency was expressed by those influent water quality and nitrification/denitrification rate constants. It was possible to expect optimal reactor volume ratio by the calculation with the standard deviation of ${\pm}14.2$.
The data of the agricultural water quality survey network was analyzed between from 1990 to 2010 in order to propose effective plans for water quality management by analyzing the characteristics of agricultural lakes and the change of water quality. The result of the analysis shows that there is a correlation between water quality and items that can be a function of water depth such as dam height, dam length, dam height/dam length ratio and active storage/surface area of lake ratio. This means that, Korean agricultural lakes, there is a correlation between water quality and water depth. Water quality of the lakes that have lower than 5m of active storage/surface area of lake ratio (effective water depth) especially tends to get worse rapidly. The Chl-a and COD concentration of Korean agricultural lakes have a tendency to increase between June and September. Therefore, we recommend first taking a water quality improvement project for the lakes preformed watershed management project, and taking a preventive short-term water quality improvement project for the unperformed lakes before June among lakes that have lower than 5m of effective water depth.
