  • The purpose of this study is to grope the direction of the environmental movement for the improvement of welfare. The deterioration of environment which was resulted from the development of material civilization due to the industrialization made people newly recognize the importance of environment. The quality of the future life depends on the solution of the environmental problems. The family-centered environmental movement as a new cultural movement in the daily life should be revitalized for the purpose of improving welfare. This study investigated the several views on the environmental problems in the neighboring disciplines of home economics. And on the basis of the results of the study, the direction of environmental movement to be developed in home economics was represented. This study represented the directions of the environmental movement as a new cultural movement in the daily life as follows: alternative life-style, that is, pro-environmental life-style-oriented direction; community-oriented direction such as cooperative association movement in daily life; the politicalization of the environmental problems, that is, the endeavor to reflect the election promise on the environment in the vote, etc. The content of the environmental movement shoed be treated of in environmental education, consumer education, family-life education, school education, and life-long education.

  • A two-dimensional numerical experiment and field observations were conducted to evaluate changes in sea water movement and the water quality environment related to comprehensive projects of waterfront development around Kwangyang Bay on the south coast of Korea. Tidal flow velocities, especially in the western part of the bay, were considerably slower as a result of the development projects. Accordingly, the seawater exchange ratio reduced from 38.7% to 26.3%. The impact of dredging work on the water quality environment was much stronger than expected. Furthermore, after the completion of the industrial parks and container-exclusive wharfs, COD from the waste water treatment plant will be dispersed extensively into the adjacent water at a level of less than 0.1 mg/l for up to 142.5 $\textrm{km}^2$. Therefore, consistent monitoring and management of the water quality environment is strongly recommended.

  • The QC circle is a small group organized for accomplishing the company's purpose of improving constitutions of the enterprise, developing the capabilities of the mem-bers and improving human relations. The present study intends to investigate the current situations and problems of the QC circle and to develop most effective models for QC circle movement in Korea. For this purpose the author surveyed 93 QC circles and interviewed more than 20 QC circle members and managers. The author has concluded that it is necessary to: 1. establish the authority and duty of the QC divisions. 2. train the top and middle management, especially the indirect divisions manage-ment. 3. motivate the QC circle members for achieving their purpose.

  • In campus project, "Barrier Free Design" is the essential part for the handicapped. It is necessary to make a quality model that choose effective design value engineering objects. So more effective models, this study examine requests of the university students. Checked items are classified into four groups that movement, guidable, safety and territoria parts, and each groups are also divided into detailed items for basic decisional elements. When basis points sets 10, it can be divided that movement parts 2.93pts, guidable parts 2.31pts, safety parts 2.41pts and territoria parts 2.35pts. in this results, we can make additive value and quality model for barrier free design in campus design value engineering.

  • This paper suggests the way to perform the handover by predicting the movement route of the mobile terminal by considering the movement pattern of the user. By considering the fact that the most users has the constant movement pattern, the channels needed fur the handover can be reserved, and the required quality of service (QoS) is maintained during handover. The suggested algorithm makes the channel allocation schemes more efficient.

  • The purposes of this study were to draw out the situational problems of the community based NGO (Non Governmental Organization) movement and to suggest development strategies for NGO movement in Korea. The study was conducted through extensive review of literature and analysis of the related data. The major findings of this study were as follows; As the development of democracy and localization process were in progress, the community based NGO movement was also developing quantitatively, however not yet qualitatively. The NGO Times Net, a internet newspaper for NGOs revealed that the number of community based NGO was 3,397 as in 2004, which was 5 times larger than 597 central based or Seoul located NGOs. However, some of the problems identified were lower participation of local people, quality of the movement compare to the original purposes of the movement, and the problems in local leadership, etc. In order to overcome various problems, this study suggested some strategies for development such as enhancement of civil education, expansion of voluntary spirits, financial support for NGOs, better mutual understanding among the GOs (Government Organizations), POs(Profit Organizations) and NGOs. Self evaluation and innovative strategies will be needed for further development of NGO movement in Korea.

  • The recent financial crises cause the co-movement and transmit the risk across different markets and assets. It is well known that market fear affects the quality of credit in the financial markets. In this context, this study examines the co-movement between the volatility index (VIX) of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), or VIX, and six emerging countries' credit default swaps (CDSs), by implementing wavelet coherence. Our research aims at revealing whether the VIX can be used to hedge against the bubble behavior of the CDS market in different investment holding periods (short-run, medium-run, and long-run), as well as whether either market can be used to manage and hedge overall market downside risks. The wavelet coherence results show a high degree of co-movement between the VIX and CDS during the 2007-2009 global financial crisis, across the 16-64 weeks' frequency band. In addition, we observe that the positive correlation between the VIX and the CDS markets, implying that the market turmoil intensifies the co-movement between the VIX and CDS markets.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise training using biofeedback and constraint-induced movement on the upper extremity function of hemiplegic patients. Method: A non-equivalent pretest-posttest design was used. Study subjects were a conveniently selected group of 40 hemiplegic patients(20 experimental subjects, 20 control subjects) who have been enrolled in two community health centers. After biofeedback training the subjects of experimental group were given constraint-induced movement, involving restraint of unaffected U/E in a sling for about 6 hours in a day over a period of two weeks, while at the same time intensively training the affected U/E. Outcomes were evaluated on the basis of the VIE motor ability(hand function, grip power, pinch power, U/E ROMs), and motor activity(amount, quality). Result: 1. After 2 weeks of treatment, the motor abilities of affected U/E(hand function, grip power, pinch power, ROMs of wrist flexion, elbow flexion and shoulder flexion/extension) were significantly higher in subjects who participated in exercise training than in subjects in the control group with no decrement at 4-week follow-up. However, there was no significant difference in wrist extension between experimental or control group. 2. After 2 weeks of treatment, the amount of use and the quality of motor activity of affected U/E were significantly higher in subjects who participated in exercise training than in subjects in the control group with no decrement at 4-week follow-up. Conclusion: The above results state that exercise training using biofeedback and constraint-induced movement could be an effective intervention for improving U/E function of chronic hemiplegic patients. Long-term studies are needed to determine the lasting effects of constraint-induced movement.

  • The estimation of nugget sizes was attempted by utilizing the artificial neural networks method. Artificial neural networks is a highly simplified model of the biological nervous system. Artificial neural networks is composed of a large number of elemental processors connected like biological neurons. Although the elemental processors have only simple computation functions, because they are connected massively, they can describe any complex functional relationship between an input-output pair in an autonomous manner. The electrode head movement signal, which is a good indicator of corresponding nugget size was determined by measuring the each test specimen. The sampled electrode movement data and the corresponding nugget sizes were fed into the artificial neural networks as input-output pairs to train the networks. In the training phase for the networks, the artificial neural networks constructs a fuctional relationship between the input-output pairs autonomusly by adjusting the set of weights. In the production(estimation) phase when new inputs are sampled and presented, the artificial neural networks produces appropriate outputs(the estimates of the nugget size) based upon the transfer characteristics learned during the training mode. Experimental verification of the proposed estimation method using artificial neural networks was done by actual destructive testing of welds. The predicted result by the artifficial neural networks were found to be in a good agreement with the actual nugget size. The results are quite promising in that the real-time estimation of the invisible nugget size can be achieved by analyzing the process variable without any conventional destructive testing of welds.
