  • High variance observed in the measurement system can cause high process variation that can affect process capability badly. Therefore, measurement system analysis is closely related to process capability analysis. Generally, the evaluation for measurement system and process variance is performed separately in the industry. That is, the measurement system analysis is implemented before process monitoring, process capability and process performance analysis even though these analyses are closely related. This paper presents the effective concurrent evaluation procedure for measurement system analysis and process capability analysis using the table that contains Process Performance (Pp), Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (%R&R) and Number of Distinct Categories (NDC). Furthermore, the long-term process capability index (Pp), which takes into account both gage variance and process variance, is used instead of the short-term process capability (Cp) considering only process variance. The long-term capability index can reflect well the relationship between the measurement system and process capability. The quality measurement and improvement guidelines by region scale are also described in detail. In conclusion, this research proposes the procedure that can execute the measurement system analysis and process capability analysis at the same time. The proposed procedure can contribute to reduction of the measurement staff's effort and to improvement of accurate evaluation.

  • The Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) is commonly used to characterize the spatial quality of imaging systems. This work is the attempt to measure the MTF for KOMPSAT EOC using the non-parametric method as ground inputs. The spatial performance of the KOMPSAT EOC was analyzed by edge method while in flight using multi-temporal image data collected over test site in Seoul. The results from this work demonstrate the potential applicability of this method to estimate MTF for high spatial resolution satellite KOMPSAT-2 that is being developed to be launched in 2005.

  • A new technique for the measurement of surface roughness based on the Intensity fluctuations of laser light backscattered form a moving surface has been introduced. The developed method will be quite useful for evaluating the surface quality under machining with more detailed Information by detecting the surface roughness along both directions simultaneously.

  • The lack of QoS (Quality of Service) support functionalities in IEEE 802.11 DCF mode makes it difficult to provide real-time multimedia services in WLANs. In this paper, we propose an effective available bandwidth measurement method in IEEE 802.11b DCF environments. The proposed method measures the total channel idle time and the collision probability during each measurement period. Then, the available bandwidth is calculated by considering those measured information and the transmission overheads at MAC and PRY layers. The performances of the proposed method are evaluated using OPNET simulator. The simulation results show that the proposed method provides more exact results than existing comparable schemes.

  • High aged society is rapidly progressing in Japan. The rate of aged person more than 65 years old in the population are estimated 25 % in 2017 and rate of younger population will be decreased at same time. As a result, it is estimated that the human resources that is looking after or supporting for the aged person will be drained in Japan. In the other hand, the society has to provide high quality of life in order to be improved living environment for aged person. To decrease the share of nursing and caring for the aged person, it is required that new supporting systems for aged person have to build up as soon as possible. But it is required that various kind of measurement for posture and movement in activities with a simple and single detector for the aged person. The measurement instrument has to be lightweight and simple structure. The results give us a simple measurement method are classified that the posture of sitting down, lying down in stationary statuses and walking, running and going to up and down on the stairs in moving statuses. The detected data will plane to transmit to wireless mobile system to the host computer.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of a small chamber sampling and analytical method for the measurement of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) and formaldehyde (HCHO) emission from building materials. While VOC was determined by the adsorbent tube sampling and sequential thermal desorption coupled with GC/MSD analysis, formaldehyde sampled with DNPH-silica cartridge was analyzed by HPLC. Wide-range performance criteria such as repeatability, desorption efficiency, emission chamber recovery test, duplicate precision, breakthrough volume and method detection limits were investigated for the evaluation of small chamber method. The overall precision of the small chamber sampling and analytical methods was estimated within 20~30% for target compounds. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the small chamber sampling and analytical method can be reliably applied for the measurement of building materials pollutants.

  • In this study, GPS (Global Positioning System) is applied to rollers for quality control problems caused by empirical judgment of compaction construction. In addition, database and 3D modeling of location information can eliminate unnecessary compaction or excessive compaction, thereby improving quality and shortening the time. This paper presents a methodology of ICMV (Intelligent Compaction Measurement Values) analysis by designing a intelligent compaction method using an accelerometer. Detailed method of ICMV analysis includes CMV (Compaction Meter Value) analysis which can quickly and conveniently evaluate the compaction of the compacted ground.

  • There has been relatively a few studies that focused on evaluation of uncertainty for standard methods by which criteria pollutants are analyzed in ambient air. Especially, uncertainty evaluation has not been made yet for sampling and analysis of airborne NO$_2$. Ambient NO$_2$ has been thought to be a major criteria pollutant worldwide because of the potential of ozone formation as well as of its own toxicity. In this study, we tried to assess uncertainties associated with the every step of sampling and of analytical procedure of Griess-Saltzman method. Quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) were also emphasized with the uncertainty characterization. The use of Griess-Saltzman method for ambient NO$_2$ analysis showed very uniform daily concentration distribution with the mean of 10.8 ppb and the standard deviation of 1.08ppb during the sampling period. However, seven daily samples collected at the same sampling time and place exhibited highly different concentration distribution. Therefore, we evaluated uncertainties associated with sampling and analysis through the precise application of ISO Guide. Estimates of expanded uncertainties for a total of 62 samples fell in a relatively broad range of 5.17% to 11.85%. On the other hand. the expanded uncertainties were smaller for the high concentration range of greater than 15ppb.

  • Laser induced incandescence, LII, recently developed technique for measuring soot concentration in flames, can overcome most of limitations of conventional laser extinction measurement. In this study, experiments were performed to investigate the effect of laser intensity, detection wavelength, and also laser beam quality on both LII signal at a particular position and peak-to-centerline LII signal ratio. The results of LII signal with increasing laser intensity shows its near-independence of laser intensity once threshold level of laser intensity has been reached. However, this near-independence depends on laser beam quality and the incident optical setup. The peak-to-centerline LII signal ratio slowly but continuously increases with laser power. This fact is due to the dependence of LII signal on particle mean diameter. LII signal is attenuated during it passes through the flame containing soot particles. The attenuation rate is inversely proportional to detection wavelength. In this study, LII signal at 680 nm band is 10% greater than the signal at 400 nm band.
