  • In this paper a simple and effective call admission control (CAC) scheme is proposed for the emerging interleave-division multiple-access (IDMA) systems, supporting a variety of traffic types and offering different quality of service (QoS) requirements and priority levels. The proposed scheme is signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) evolution based CAC (SE-CAC). The key idea behind the scheme is to take advantage of the SINR evolution technique in the process of making admission decisions, which is developed from the effective chip-by-chip (CBC) multi-user detection (MUD) process in IDMA systems. By virtue of this semi-analytical technique, the MUD efficiency can be estimated accurately. Additionally, the computational complexity can be considerably reduced. These features make the scheme highly suitable for IDMA systems, which can combat intra-cell interference efficiently with simple CBC MUD. Analysis and simulation results show that compared to the traditional CAC scheme considering MUD efficiency as a constant, the proposed SE-CAC scheme can guarantee high power efficiency and throughput for multimedia traffic even in heavy load conditions, illustrating the high efficiency of CBC MUD. Furthermore, based on the SINR evolution, the SE-CAC can make accurate estimation of available resource considering the effect of MUD, leading to low outage probability as well as low blocking and dropping probability.

  • Free viewpoint video (FVV) service is an immersive media service that allows a user to watch it from a desired location or viewpoint. It is composed of various forms according to the direction of the viewpoint of the provided video, and includes zoom in/out in the service. As consumers' demand for active watching is increasing, the importance of FVV services is expected to grow gradually. However, additional considerations are needed to seamlessly stream FVV service. FVV includes a plurality of videos, video changes may occur frequently due to movement of the viewpoint. Frequent occurrence of video switching or re-request another video can cause service delay and it also can lower user's quality of service (QoS). In this case, we assumed that if a video showing an object that the user wants to watch is selected and provided, it is highly likely to meet the needs of the viewer. In particular, it is important to provide an object-oriented FVV service when zooming in. When video zooming in in the usual way, it cannot be guaranteed to zoom in around the object. Zoom function does not consider about video viewing. It only considers the viewing screen size and it crop the video view as fixed screen location. To solve this problem, we propose a zoom in/out method of object-centered dynamic adaptive streaming of FVV in this paper. Through the method proposed in this paper, users can enjoy the optimal video service because they are provided with the desired object-based video.

  • With advancing of mobile communication services and commercializing of VoLTE (Voice of LTE), it is getting to pay attention on QoS of VoLTE. This paper proposes an integrated E-model in which some factors influenced to service quality of VoIP and VoLTE based voice communication system are considered in calculating the voice quality of Wideband Codec. The model aims to calculate R value which reflects the situations of access network, network characteristics, terminals' usage and mobility. We mainly deal with the integrated E-model's structure, related algorithms and optimal parameters for VoLTE. Some experiments show that the voice quality difference between VoIP and VoiceChecker, and VoLTE and POLQA, is below 10%. With the proposed model, we can calculate the voice quality by making use of the factors directly affected to service quality and the environment of VoLTE terminal and network. As a result, we can estimate the service quality in advance, without measuring it in real wireless environment.
