Molecular-based materials with such functions as catalysis, magnetism and coordinate clathrations of one-, two-, and three-dimensional infinite frameworks have been extensively studied. Although rigid bridged ligands were frequently employed to construct these materials, flexible ligands were exploited less for this purpose. A one-dimensional polymer ${[Cd_2(=mu-bpe)_2](\mu-bpe)}(NO_3)_4}_n$ is prepared ; its structure is strikingly characterized by heptacoordinate Cd ions as well as by a unique main framework.

The hydrothermal reaction of Ni(NO₃)·6H₂O with 4.4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) (OBCH₂) and trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bipyen) led to the formation of a 3-dimensional coordination polymer with the empirical formular of [Ni(OBC)(bipyen)]·H₂O. The complex has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, TGA, IR, X-ray power diffraction (XRPD), It crystallized triclinic space group P1 with a = 9.280(2)Å., b = 11.317(4) Å, c = 12.442(3) Å, Z = 2, R (ωR₂) = 0.0346 (0.0846).

The synthesis of coumarin-based natural products and their derivatives is described. In vitro MDR reversal activities of the synthesized compounds were evaluated in P-glycoprotein over-expressing human sarcoma cell line MES-SA/DX5. Some of the coumarin derivatives were found to show potent MDR reversal activity. In particular, pyridyl derivative (15e) exhibited more potency than verapamil.

The synthesis and electronic as well as redox properties of four Ru(Ⅱ) complexes based on the ligand 4'-(4-pyridyl)-3,3';5',3"-bis-dimethylene-2,2';6',2"-terpyridine are reported. Each new complex is of the type [Ru(L)2]n+ and [Ru(tpy)(L)]n+, where L is the terdentate ligand with extra pyridine ring at 4'-position or is a N-methylated ligand and n=2, 3, or 4. Cyclic voltammetry indicates that the first electron added to the complex enters the viologen-type acceptor in N-methylated ligand.
