  • A few commonly used correlation equations of the enthalpy of vaporization are reviewed and a new three-parameter correlation equation is proposed. Performance of the proposed equation is examined using the data listed in the ASHRAE table for 22 pure substance refrigerants. The new equation yields an average absolute deviation of $0.14\%$ for 22 refrigerants, which is better than those of other equations, such as Xiang $(0.18\%),$ Majer-SvobodaPick $(0.18\%),$ and Somayajulu equation $(0.23\%)$.

  • Studies of photochemical reactions of the pure oxygen atmosphere are made using reaction rate constants and atmospheric data available in the latest literature. The daytime and nighttime variations in atomic oxygen and ozone are computed, based on three different conditions: 1) photochemical equilibrium, 2) direct integrations of the rate equations with modifications and approximation to the equations, and 3) by numerical integrations. The departure from the photochemical equilibrium concentrations during day and nighttime are discussed by comparing the results obtaind from the three conditions.

  • The most widely used data mining technique is to find association rules. Association rule mining is the method to quantify the relationship between each set of items in very huge database based on the association thresholds. There are some basic association thresholds to explore meaningful association rules ; support, confidence, lift, etc. Among them, confidence is the most frequently used, but it has the drawback that it can not determine the direction of the association. The net confidence and the attributably pure confidence were developed to compensate for this drawback, but they have other drawbacks. In this paper we consider some predictive similarity measures for binary data in cluster analysis and multi-dimensional analysis as association threshold to compensate for these drawbacks. The comparative studies with net confidence, attributably pure confidence, and some predictive similarity measures are shown by numerical example.

  • We developed a compact micro indentation testing device (designated SNUT) which is capable to measure Young's modulus of a sample using depth and applied load data during indentation. Performance of this device was evaluated using pure Ti, pure Ni, and die steel (SKD11). As a result of analysing the indentation test data, the frame compliance $C_f$ was found to influence mainly the modulus by 80% among several factors affecting accuracy of Young's modulus. Project area, which was determined by indirect indentation method, was modified using direct SEM observation. Finally, Young's modulus error was reduced to 5% after taking into consideration the frame compliance and modified projected area from 80% error without any these two correction factors. The performance of SNUT and MTS instruments was compared using same specimen (pure Ti).

  • Based on Vlasov's torsional theory of open thin-walled members and the nonlinear constitutive relations of materials, a nonlinear analysis model to predict response of open thin-walled RC members subjected to pure torsion is proposed in the current study. The variation of the circulatory torsional stiffness and warping torsional stiffness over the entire loading process and the impact of warping shear deformation on the torsion-induced rotation of the member are considered in the formulation. The torque equilibrium differential equation is then solved by Runge-Kutta method. The proposed nonlinear model is then applied to predict the behavior of five U-shaped thin-walled RC members under pure torsion. Four of them were tested in an earlier experimental study by the authors and the testing data of the fifth one were reported in an existing literature. Results show that the analytical predictions based on the proposed model agree well with the experimental data of all five specimens. This clearly shows the validity of the proposed nonlinear model analyzing behavior of U-shaped thin-walled RC members under pure torsion.

  • Evaporation heat transfer characteristics were studied in a horizontal tube using R22/R114 non-azotropic refrigerant mixture. the heat transfer coefficient was high in the upper part for pure refrigerants, and heat transfer coefficient was low in the lower part for refrigerant mixtures. In the low quality region where nucleate boiling was dominant, the average heat transfer coefficient was low. In the region where forced convection was dominant, heat transfer coefficient was high. Results show that the heat transfer coefficient for pure refrigerants obtained by experiments were lower than those of Yoshida et al. but agreed well with Jung et al., and Chen et al. data. But the heat transfer coefficients for refrigerant mixtures were lower about 20% than those predicted by the equation for pure refrigerant.

  • Proper material constitutive models for concrete-filled tube (CFT) columns of circular cross section and subjected to pure bending moment are proposed. These material models are implemented into the Abaqus finite element program and verified against experimental data. It has been shown that the steel tube does not provide good confining effect to the concrete core when the CFT columns is subjected to pure bending moment. When the diameter-to-thickness ratio of the CFT columns is small, the behavior of the CFT column is the same as the steel tube without a concrete core.

  • A recovery process of pure alumina powder from the wasted aluminum etching solution of electrolytic condenser works was studied. The possibility of this process was considered in the basis of thermodynamic data nad physico-chemical properties for the recovered materials were tested. In order to obtain pure alumina, Fe3+ and Cu2+ in the solution as impurities were solvent-extracted, respectively, and then, Al3+ was precipitated by changing the pH of the solution. As the results, more than 99.9% of Al3+ in the solution was recovered by the precipitation method. The weight of the precipitate was reduced to about 65 wt.% of the original one by calcination and the sizes of the recovered powders were in order of 3-5$\mu\textrm{m}$. The precipitates were transformed to $\alpha$-Al2O3 at the calcination temperature about 120$0^{\circ}C$.

  • With the advent of a wide variety of Internet shopping malls, consumers can choose a best appealing shopping mall from among the Bricks-and-Clicks and Pure-Player malls. Pure-Players launched their operation grandiosely with the early stage of Internet use in 1995. However, after the burst of Dot-com company bubbles in 1997, Pure-Players introduce various types of business models to meet potential needs of consumers. While Pure-Players suffer skeptical views from market analysts as well as consumers, traditional offline companies learned important lessons from Dot-com companies collapse phenomena, and expanded their business channels into online in the name of Bricks-and-Clicks. Nowadays, Bricks-and-Clicks successfully establish in the market as one of reliable business partners among consumers. Therefore, it is no surprise that recent competitions between Bricks-and Clicks and Pure-Players become fiercer than ever to attract potential customers to their websites. In this situation, consumers can choose a shopping mall to their best satisfaction. Consumers can enjoy both offline and online options for shopping because Bricks-and Clicks provide both offline and online channels to consumers, which is compared with Pure-Players offering only online channel. Offline channel is unique in providing consumers with chances to touch and feel target products and services. Meanwhile, online channel is considered very viable and convenient shopping options for consumers. In this respect, it is easily assumed that consumers will show different online shopping behavior when they have to choose either Bricks-and-Clicks mall or Pure-Player mall for the sake of shopping. Remaining research issue in this case is how much consumers' schema would influence online shopping behavior between Bricks-and-Clicks and Pure-Players. Basically, schema is a framework for synthetic information recognition that individual consumers have and is very characteristic in that it focuses not on fragmentary facts but on the combination of various causes affecting results. Consumers' schema is closely represented by trust, structural assurance, and perceived relative advantage towards a specific type of shopping mall. In literature, there exist a lot of studies comparing Bricks-and-Clicks and Pure-Players. However, there is no study to pursue the analysis of consumer behaviors comparing Bricks-and Clicks and Pure-Players from the schema perspective. Therefore, this study aims to investigate this research gap. Empirical analysis is adopted by garnering valid questionnaires from 514 Internet shopping mall users. 237 were mainly using Bricks-and-Clicks for shopping, while 277 were found to visit Pure-Players for shopping. PLS was applied to analyze the survey data to verify the proposed research hypotheses. Findings from the empirical test results are as follows. First, consumers perceive more trust and relative advantage in Pure-Players, comparing with Bricks-and-Clicks. This result is against widely-accepted perception that Bricks-and-Clicks would be perceived by consumers as more trustworthy and relatively advantageous because they have offline reputation and stores. Therefore, it becomes more obvious that Internet is becoming daily necessaries, and consumers increasingly feel very comfortable in using the Internet for their own personal purposes. Second, consumers have firm faith in transaction safety, regardless Bricks-and-Clicks and Pure-Players. This seems due to the fact that most of shopping malls showing dubious transaction safety have no place in the market. In a nutshell, empirical results tell us that Pure-Players will grow very much in the future, to the extent that consumers perceive no difference in comparison with Bricks-and-Clicks. Besides, consumers' schema accumulated through trust and perceived relative advantage plays crucial role in determining consumer behavior.
