  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of interactivity on consumers' mental imagery, attitude toward a product, confidence in evaluation and purchase intention. The proposed model was examined by conducting an experiment using mock apparel websites. A total of 1,009 female college students enrolled at a major midwestern university in the USA participated in the experiment. A structural equation model was used to test the model. The results of the study indicate that interactivity positively influenced mental imagery, attitudes toward a product imagery, and confidence in evaluation. The structural equation model also revealed that mental imagery positively influenced attitude toward a product and confidence in evaluation. Finally, the results show that attitude toward a product and confidence in judgment positively affected purchase intention. The study provides valuable theoretical perspectives which aide in the understanding of the effect of interactivity on consumers' cognitive and behavioral responses, and helps retailers develop effective marketing strategies.

  • This study examined: 1) the influence of 3 social presence types including shopping companions, other consumers, and sales associates on the consumer's purchase decision at a retail store; 2) the difference in the influence by shopping situation involving shopping together or shopping alone; and 3) the differences by consumer susceptibility to social influence and self-confidence. The study conducted three experiments with the retail shopping scenario manipulating consumer's positive self-evaluation, but lack of confidence after trying on a clothing product. Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 examined the positive influence of social presence while Experiment 3 examined the negative influence. The results showed that the positive comment of a shopping companion had the highest influence on the purchase decision. Such impact was more observable under the low susceptibility to normative influence. The negative comments of sales associate and shopping companion lowered the purchase decision. There was no difference by shopping situation. The results imply that influences of social presence on the consumer's purchase decision are different by positive or negative comments and such influences are not different by shopping situation.

  • Consumers' psychological demands for e-tail shopping have increased as websites have become one of the most dominant retail outlets for various fashion products. The lack of realistic social stimuli in virtual contexts (websites) has been a major limitation for many online shoppers. Prior research has focused on the viable role of technology to improve positive social factors in e-tailing; however, this study tests the role of tone in text in fashion e-tail sites on consumers' trust and choice confidence. We conducted a self-administered online survey with 309 individuals from the U.S.. The results indicated positive effects of casual tone in text-based content of a fashion e-tail site on trust and confidence. Trust also has a significant positive effect on confidence. Both trust and confidence improved purchase intention. Given the high price of employing an avatar or simulated salesperson online, using tone in text to increase positive social effect on shoppers can be a positive alternative when managers plan e-tail strategies contributing to consumers' positive shopping experience online. Discussions and study limitations are provided.

The analysis on Confidence, Confirmatory Factors, Structural Equation Modeling was compared with Chi-square considering the degrees of freedom between the two models in order to investigate the moderating effect from the purchasing frequency. The result from the analysis confirms that there is a casual relationship between college students' values of organic farm products and the environmentally-friendly attitude. Consumer confidence has a moderating effect on the attitude and purchase intention. Utilitarian and hedonic shopping values, trust, attitude and purchase intention are incorporated into the Value-Attitude-Behavior model to find out how differently shopping values and trust influence online shoppers attitude and purchase intention when they have different purchase experiences. Data are collected from survey of 187 subjects and divided into two groups according to their online purchase experiences : 97 shoppers with low online purchase experiences and 89 with high experiences. PLS(Partial Least Square) method is applied to estimate the research model and to test 7 hypotheses. The results show the difference of the way how shopping value and trust influence purchase intention. In the case of low experienced online shoppers, trust has the greatest influence purchase intention, followed by hedonic shopping value mediated by attitude. However utilitarian shopping values have a bigger impact on it for shoppers with high purchase experiences. In the latter, trust also has a significant impact on purchase intention at confidence level of 0.05. The results also provide useful implications for practitioners to build and manage their marketing strategies. Managers of online shopping mall should react to the different shopping value by shopper's experience.

  • Consumers who purchase products from foreign countries and deliver them back to Korea are increasing. According to the Korea Fashion & Textile News (2015), overseas direct shopping reported 39% increase compared to 2013. Furthermore, clothes accounted for 19% of product category. Therefore, the service quality of overseas purchase sites is becoming more important, but studies have been limited. this research focuses on investigating the effects of consumers' shopping orientation on service quality and the effects of service quality on trust, satisfaction, and consumer loyalty. The survey was administered to consumers who had experiences in purchasing through overseas direct purchase websites. The results showed that the perception of service quality differed depending on the respondent's shopping orientation. Among the four shopping orientation groups(shopping confidence, shopping enjoyment, trend pursuit, and shopping follower groups), the shopping confidence group showed the highest mean for all service quality factors. All the groups showed the highest scores on product and trust among the factors of service quality. Next, the results revealed that service quality positively influenced consumers' trust on websites that provide overseas direct purchase services, which further improved customer loyalty. Therefore, the study gives managerial suggestions to online retailers that provide oversea shopping service. They need to provide higher site efficiency, security, product reliability, and responsiveness to cultivate international customers' trust and satisfaction. In particular, it will be important for them to offer accurate, reliable product information and various languages for overseas customers.
