  • In this study, It classified type of irrigation water development in islands district. As result, the types which were type of reservior, fleshwater lake, pumped storage, ets. Most of islands district has developed reuse irrigation system as a pumped storage system. But, Irrigation water-reuse ratio doesn't define a basis clearly and the value of measurement for water-reuse ratio doesn't exist so far. so, we measured Irrigation water-reuse to clarify for water-reuse ratio in a pumped storage system.

  • In this study, Types of irrigation water development in islands district were classified. The types were reservior, fleshwater lake, pumped storage, etc. Most of islands district has delveloped reuse irrigation system as a pumped storage system. But. Irrigation water-reuse ratio doesn't define a basis clearly and the value of measurement for water-reuse ratio doesn't exist so far. so, we measured Irrigation water-reuse to clarify for water-reuse ratio in a pumped storage system. Also, we need to develop hydrologic analysis and water balance method with characteristic factor of islands district. that make use of plan about security of agriculture water efficiently in islands district.

남대천 양양 양수발전소의 환경영향과 대책 (Environmental Impact Assessment of the Yangyang Pumped Storage Power Plant Construction on the Namdae-Chun River, Korea)

  • The Yangyang Pumped Storage Power Plant is being constructed by Korea Electric Power Corporation in Namdae-Chun River, Korea. The Yangyang Pumped Storage Power Plant has 1000MW capacity with upper reservior, lower reservior, hydrauric tunnel and underground power plant facilities. But NGO(Non Governmental Groups) and residents are worried about the power plant construction because of some problems, as follows. (1) Namdae-Chun River is principal salmon returning river in Korea. (2) Namdae-Chun River is main water supply source of the Yangyang country. So, brief explanation of Environmental Impacts Assessment executed by Korea Electric Power Corporation, main environmental impacts and countermeasures will be introduced.

Multi-sensor data-based anomaly detection and diagnosis of a pumped storage hydropower plant

  • This paper introduces a system to detect and diagnose anomalies in pumped storage hydropower plants. We collect data from various types of sensors, including those monitoring temperature, vibration, and power. The data are classified according to the operation modes (pump and turbine operation modes) and normalized to remove the influence of the external environment. To detect anomalies and diagnose their types, we adopt a multivariate normal distribution analysis by learning the distribution of the normal data. The feasibility of the proposed system is evaluated using actual monitoring data of a pumped storage hydropower plant. The proposed system can be used to implement condition monitoring systems for other plants through modifications.

  • 최근 심야 전기 수요의 증가로 인해 양수 발전 설비의 이용률이 감소하고 있다. 이러한 이용률 감소는 양수 발전 설비를 운용/정비하는 측면에서 경제성을 향상시킬 필요성을 증가시킨다. 양수 발전 설비의 경제성 향상을 위해서는 예방점검 주기, 특히 분해점검 주기를 연장하여야 한다. 그러나, 무조건적인 연장은 불충분한 정비에 기인하는 예기치 못하는 파손을 발생시킬 수 있기 때문에 수행될 수 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 양수 발전 설비의 특성을 고려하고 기존 신뢰도 연구들을 검토하여 신뢰도와 경제성을 모두 고려하는 예방점검 주기 최적화 방법론을 제안한다. 최종적으로 실제 양수 발전 설비에 제안된 방법론을 국내 양수발전소에 적용하여 연장된 최적화 분해 점검 주기를 도출한다.

양수발전소의 화재안전 대책에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fire Safety Measure of Pumped Storage Power Plant)

  • 양수발전소는 여러 발전소에서 생산되는 전력에너지를 심야시간에 남을 경우 잉여분의 전기를 이용하여 저지대의 물을 양수하여 고지대로 이동하여 필요시 물의 낙차 압력을 이용하여 전기를 재생산하는 발전 설비이다. 전국의 양수발전소는 "전원개발에 의한 특례법 제6조"로 인한 건축물대장에 미 등재로 인하여 건축물이 아닌 구조물로 분류되어 인가와 완공까지 소방행정의 참여가 배제되어 소방시설허가가 필요치 않게 되어 왔다. 따라서 향후 전국에 운영 및 시설 중에 있는 양수발전소에 유사한 화재로 인하여 똑같은 피해가 반복되지 않도록 하기 위하여 "전원 개발에 의한 특례법 제6조"의 적용에 따른 문제점과 시설의 보완 그리고 안전관리의 문제점을 개선하여 유사 피해를 최대한 막고자 한다.

  • This paper presents a new method for solving a long term unit commitment problem including hydro and pumped storage hydro units in a large scale power system. The proposed method makes it possible to get variable power of hydro and pumpde storage hydro units and results in the better unit commitment with good convergency. Moreover this paper proposes an unit commitment algorithm to consider variable power of these units effectively by Lagrangian Relaxation method. By applying the proposed method to the test system and the real system, it is verified the usefulness of this method.

  • Pumped-storage power plants pumps the water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir using the extra electric power at night and generates electric power in the daytime. Currently it tends to be a high-head large-capacity machine. In this paper, we developed the computer programs for vibration analysis of the pump/turbine and generator/motor rotor system considering electromagnetic force, hydrodynamic unbalance force, dynamic characteristics of guide bearings and add mass of water. This program was verified by applying it to the real model and calculating the critical speed, natural mode and unbalance response.

Optimal Scheduling in Power-Generation Systems with Thermal and Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Units

  • This paper is concerned with the unit commitment problem in an electric power system with both thermal and pumped-storage hydroelectric units. This is a mixed integer programming problem and the Lagrangean relaxation method is used. We show that the relaxed problem decomposes into two kinds of subproblems : a shortest-path problem for each thermal unit and a minimum cost flow problem for each pumped-storage hydroelectric unit. A method of obtaining an incumbenet solution from the solution of a relaxed problem is presented. The Lagrangean multipliers are updated using both subgradient and incremental cost. The algorithm is applied to a real Korean power generation system and its computational results are reported and compaired with other works.

  • The electric power industries in Korea are launched into deregulation by introducing the CBP(Cost Based Pool), where generation sector of KEPCO was divided into six generation companies and the other sectors of KEPCO remains vertically integrated system. In deregulated market, participants are concerned with maximization of their profit rather than minimization of system-wide costs. Consequently, there are difficulties in applying the cost minimization for the scheduling of generation resources to CBP, because of the operation of pumped-storage hydroplants. This paper presents an operation method of pumped storage hydroplants which is helpful for the economic operation of power system considering the market in the CBP.
