태양광에너지 시스템이 결합된 HTS 자속펌프의 제작 및 예비실험 (Fabrication and Test of HTS Flux Pump Combined with Solar Energy System)

  • As new one of superconducting power supplies, we proposed an HTS flux pump utilized a solar energy system. As an eternal electric energy can be converted by the solar system, the solar energy system is promisingly applied as an energy source in the power applications. Especially, since the solar energy system played a role in conventional utility power, total power consumption of the flux pump system are provided by solar energy. That means its operating efficiency is remarkably improved compared with developed flux pumps. A solar energy system is comprised of solar panel, photo-voltaic (PV) controller, converter and battery. The HTS flux pump consists of an electromagnet, two thermal heaters and a Bi-2223 magnet. In this paper, we describe the possibility the fusion technology between superconducting power supply and solar energy system. As a fundamental step, the fabrication, structure and experimental results are explained.

실내온도조절을 위한 인버터 열펌프의 주파수 제어에 관한 연구 (A study of frequency control of an inverter heat pump for indoor air temperature adjustment)

  • An experimental study on the frequency control of an inverter heat pump to get the desired indoor room temperature has been conducted for the performance characteristics during the steady, 4, 8, and 16 step frequency operations. The heat pump model used in this study was operated to meet the experimental conditions of ASHRAE standard. The performance of the system was tested by measuring the temperature and pressure of the refrigerant, and cooling capacity, power consumption, etc. of the system. As the controlling frequency steps increased, the running time of the compressor increased as well as the electric consumption of the system and the cooling energy due to the wall heating load. However, the average cooling COP was improved.

  • This paper proposed a hydraulic pump system which uses a variable SR drive and constant capacity pump. The base and maximum speed, torque are determined from displacement capacity of the pump and maximum pressure. The drive system is set to have a minimum power consumption having hydraulic preset pressure, which is operated within a maximum capacity and maximum preset pressure. This is achieved by controlling motor speed and power with feedback signal of pressure of the hydraulic pump. A 2.2kw, 12/8-pole SR motor and DSP based digital controller are designed and prototype drive system is manufactured. The proposed variable speed SR drive system is simulated and tested with experimental set-up. The test results show that the system has some good features such as high efficiency and high response characteristics.

Numerical analysis of the temperature distribution of the EM pump for the sodium thermo-hydraulic test loop of the GenIV PGSFR

  • The temperature distribution of an electromagnetic pump was analyzed with a flow rate of 1380 L/min and a pressure of 4 bar designed for the sodium thermo-hydraulic test in the Sodium Test Loop for Safety Simulation and Assessment-Phase 1 (STELLA-1). The electromagnetic pump was used for the circulation of the liquid sodium coolant in the Intermediate Heat Transport System (IHTS) of the Prototype Gen-IV Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (PGSFR) with an electric power of 150 MWe. The temperature distribution of the components of the electromagnetic pump was numerically analyzed to prevent functional degradation in the high temperature environment during pump operation. The heat transfer was numerically calculated using ANSYS Fluent for prediction of the temperature distribution in the excited coils, the electromagnet core, and the liquid sodium flow channel of the electromagnetic pump. The temperature distribution of operating electromagnetic pump was compared with cooling of natural and forced air circulation. The temperature in the coil, the core and the flow gap in the two conditions, natural circulation and forced circulation, were compared. The electromagnetic pump with cooling of forced circulation had better efficiency than natural circulation even considering consumption of the input power for the air blower. Accordingly, this study judged that forced cooling is good for both maintenance and efficiency of the electromagnetic pump.

선박용 펌프의 해수온도 변화에 따른 효율적인 유량제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Capacity Control of a Marine Pump with the Variation of Sea Water Temperature)

  • 본 연구에서는 선박용 해수펌프에 회전수를 제어할 수 있는 인버터를 설치하여 효율적인 유량제어를 통한 소비전력 절감효과를 확인하고 해양생성물 부착방지시스템(MGPS)이 미설치된 곳에서 해수펌프의 유량제어가 시스템에 미치는 영향에 관하여 연구하였다. 실험은 항해중이나 정박중 항시 운전되고 있는 목포해양대학교의 실습선의 보조해수펌프와 냉동기 해수펌프를 이용하였으며, 정박과 국제항해로 구분하여 실험하였다. 연구 결과 해수온도가 $18^{\circ}C$이하인 경우 펌프회전수는 58.3 % 감소시켜 운전이 가능하였으며 50 %의 소비전력 절감효과가 있었다. 해수온도가 $34^{\circ}C$까지 상승하여도 펌프의 회전수는 91.6 %로 운전이 가능하였으며 20 %의 소비전력 절감효과가 있었다. 또한 해양생성물 부착방지시스템이 설치되지 않은 곳에서는 펌프의 회전수를 낮추어 유속이 저하하면 해양생성물의 부착을 가증시키는 결과를 알게 되었다.

낮은 증발온도에서 운전되는 가변속 롤러형 베인 압축기의 성능특성에 관한 분석 (Analysis on the performance characteristics of a variable-speed, roller-type vane compressor operating at low evaporating temperature)

  • Performance of a variable-speed, roller-type vane compressor was evaluated at low evaporating temperature. First, an experimental investigation was conducted to examine the performance variation as functions of both outdoor temperature and rotating speed. For this purpose, a typical heat pump was implemented as a test apparatus to measure mass flow rate and power input. Secondly, computational investigations corresponding to the heat pump test conditions were performed to predict compressor performance using ORNL Map-Based compressor model. Results obtained from the heat-pump experiments showed that both mass flow rate and power consumption were sensitively dependent on both evaporating temperature and compressor speed as was predicted from the computational results. From the comparisons of both experimental and computational results, it was well recognized that the ORNL model was subjected to larger error in the accuracy of prediction as outdoor temperature decreased. When the outdoor temperature was above $-5^{\cire}C$, errors of predicted values corresponding to both mass flow rate and power consumption were estimated as $\pm$10% and $\pm$ 15%, respectively. Finally, it is suggested that the ORNL model needs to be re-evaluated if compressor map data tested below $-5^{\cire}C$(in evaporating temperature) are available.

A Wide Output Range, High Power Efficiency Reconfigurable Charge Pump in 0.18 mm BCD process

  • This paper presents a wide output range, high power efficiency reconfigurable charge pump for driving touch panels with the high resistances. The charge pump is composed of 4-stages and its configuration automatically changes based on the required output voltage level. In order to keep the power efficiency over the wide output voltage range, internal blocks are automatically activated or deactivated by the clock driver in the reconfigurable charge pump minimizing the switching power loss due to the On and Off operations of MOSFET. In addition, the leakage current paths in each mode are blocked to compensate for the variation of power efficiency with respect to the wide output voltage range. This chip is fabricated using $0.18{\mu}m$ BCD process with high power MOSFET options, and the die area is $1870{\mu}m{\times}1430{\mu}m$. The power consumption of the charge pump itself is 79.13 mW when the output power is 415.45 mW at the high voltage mode, while it is 20.097 mW when the output power is 89.903 mW at the low voltage mode. The measured maximum power efficiency is 84.01 %, when the output voltage is from 7.43 V to 12.23 V.

  • In modem manufacturing, new applations and technologies demand smaller, and functional devices to replace large systems. As miniaturization becomes a necessity, many companies are interested in small pumps for use in creating ultra-high vacuum, but past efforts to develop such systems have failed due to problems with vibration, stress, heat and power consumption. This paper shows analysis-based design techniques for high vacuum turbomolecular pump by finite element analysis.

CONTROL STRATEGY OF ELECTRIC COOLANT PUMPS FOR FUEL ECONOMY IMPROVEMENT

  • The engine cooling system for a medium duty V6, 4.5 L diesel engine was modeled with a commercial code, GT-Cool in order to investigate the effect of controllable electric pump on the cooling performance and the fuel economy. The simulation results of the cooling system model with mechanical coolant pump were validated with experimental data. Two different types of electric pumps were implemented into the cooling system model and PID control for electric pump operation was incorporated into the simulation study. Based on the simulation result with electric pump, conventional thermostat hysteresis was modified to reduce pump operation for additional improvement of fuel economy, and then the benefit of electric pumps with modified thermostat hysteresis on fuel economy was demonstrated with the simulation. The predicted result indicates that the cooling system with electric pump and modified thermostat hysteresis can reduce pump power consumption by more than $99\%$ during the FTP 74 driving cycle.

오비터 진공펌프 성능해석 (Performance Analysis of Orbiter Vacuum Pump)

  • Orbiter mechanism has been applied to vacuum pump design for small oxygen generator where low vacuum of about 200mmHg is required. Performance of the designed vacuum pump has been numerically investigated: calculated volumetric and adiabatic efficiencies were 69.7% and 83.9%, respectively for leakage clearance of $10{\mu}m$. Total efficiency of the orbiter vacuum pump was 77.5%. At the shaft speed of 1700 rpm suction displacement volume of 6.3cc provided discharge flow at the rate of 2.3 liter/min with power consumption of 10.1Watt. Torque variation of the orbiter pump was only about 20% of that of diaphragm pump.
