Among the micro machining techniques, micro EDM is generally used for machining micro holes, pockets, and micro structures on difficult-cut-materials. Micro EDM parameters such as applied voltage, capacitance, peak current, pulse width, duration time are very important to fabricate the tool electrode and produce the micro structures. Developed micro EDM machine is composed of a 3-axis driving system and RC circuit equipped with pulse generator. In this paper, using micro EDM machine, the characteristics of micro EDM process are investigated and it is applied to micro holes, slots, and pockets machining. Through experiments, relations between machined surface and voltages and between MRR and feedrate are investigated. Also the trends of tool wear are investigated in case of hole and slot machining.
As high temperature superconductor applications became a reality due to increase in coated conductor performance, it is important to understand their stability behavior to design safe electrical power systems. We have experimentally studied the dependence of quench and recovery characteristics of coated conductors on the amplitude of current and duration time. The sample used in the present study is stabilized with stainless steel. Stability tests of 3 cm long sample were performed in a liquid nitrogen bath cooling condition by applying a short period over current pulses for 50 and 100 ms, with amplitude up to ~ 6 times of the critical current. The transport current that follows before and after the current pulse was fixed about ~85% the critical current. We analyzed the quench recovery using the current voltage characteristic.
Radar sensors are used for space situational awareness (SSA) to determine collision risk and detect re-entry of space objects. The capability of SSA radar system includes radar sensitivity such as the detectable radar cross-section as a function of range and tracking capability to indicate tracking time and measurement errors. The time duration of the target staying in a range cell is short; therefore, the signal-to-noise ratio cannot be improved through the pulse integration method used in pulse-Doppler signal processing. In this study, a method of improving the signal-to-noise ratio during range migration is presented. The improved detection performance from signal processing gains realized in this study can be used as a basis for comprehensively designing an SSA radar system.
The application of pulsed electric field was investigated in the crossflow ultrafiltration of BSA (bovine serum albumn) to economize the application time of electric current as well as to avoid inherent problems of long-term application of electric field. During the application of various cyclic patterns of pulsed electric current, the averaged filtration flowrate and the degree of concentration were maintained higher than those obtained in the absence of electric current application. The temperature increase, pH change, and BSA loss by electrodeposition were all negligible during the operation. The averaged filtration flowrate increased as the ON/OFF duration ratio of electric current was higher and as the period of ON/OFF cycle was shorter. The re-establishment of concentration polarization was dependent to the duration of current OFF state and, therefore, a longer duration of OFF state was not favorable in maintaining higher filtration flow rate. Although the averaged filtration flowrate was enhanced as the magnitude of electric current increased, the flowrate enhancement became smaller as the magnitude of current value above which the degree of electrokinetic depolarization is no further improved.
In this paper, we report the changes of electrical, structural and optical characteristics in $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ thin films according to an increase of Si content. The Si-doped $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ thin films were prepared by rf-magnetron co-sputtering method. Isothermal annealing was carried out at $N_2$ atmosphere. The crystallization speed (v) of amorphous thin films was evaluated by detecting the reflection response signals using a nano-pulse scanner (wavelength = 658 nm) with illumination power of 1~17 mW and pulse duration of 10~460 ns. Structural phase changes were evaluated by XRD, and the optical transmittance was measured in the wavelength range of 300~3000 nm using UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometer. The sheet resistance (RS) of the thin films was measured using 4 point probe. Conclusivlely, the v-value decreased with an increase of Si content, while the RS-values of both crystalline and amorphous phases were increased. In particular, fcc-to-hexagonal transition was suppressed by the added Si atoms.
In this work, we report several experimental data capable of evaluating the phase transition characteristics of (InTe)x(GeTe)y (x = 0.1, 0.3, y =1) pseudo-binary thin films. (InTe)x(GeTe)y phase change thin films have been prepared by thermal evaporator. The crystallization characteristics of amorphous (InTe)x(GeTe)y thin films were investigated by using nano-pulse scanner with 658 nm laser diode (power : 1~17 mW, pulse duration : 10~460 ns) and XRD measurement. It was found that the crystalline speed of In-Ge-Te thin films are faster than $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$[1] and also the crystalline temperature is higher. Changes in the optical transmittance of as-deposited and annealed films were measured using a UV-VIS-IR spectrophotometer and four-point probe was used to measure the sheeresistance of InGeTe films annealed at different temperature.
The movements of three striped jack (Caranx delicatissimus, 24cm of body length) were tracked by ultrasonic telemetry in the Nunoura Bay in August 1990. A school of the striped jack has been released near by the fish farming rafts by Goto branch of the Fisheries Agency and Japan Sea-Farming Association. To investigate the staying area and the swimming pattern of the fish, small size pinger($\Phi$8.5$\times$L35mm, 140dB re 1$\mu$Pa at 1m, 69kHz) was tagged on the dorsal fin without any anesthesia. The movements of three tagged fish are monitored at the same time with four omni-directional hydrophones. The locations of the fish are calculated by the hyperbolic method and tracked by a technique so called time division scheme which uses both the pulse interval and the phase. Three pingers used have the pulse interval of 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9sec, respectively, and the common pulse duration of 15ms. In results it was capable to estimate behavior right after the release, swimming speeds and approximate moving area of the fish. The movements were tracked for a week continuously, and it was found out that the staying area of the fish was around or under the farming rafts. Sometimes they swam together but most of the time they move separately. The average swimming speed of those fish was about two times of the body length.
Superficial fungal infections with dermatophytes, nondermatophyte molds, or yeasts are treated primarily with topical and/or systemic antifungal agents. Additional or alternative treatment modalities, particularly energy-delivering modalities, however, are used widely to induce fungicidal effects via selective photothermal reactions. In addition to light- or laser-based devices, plasma therapy also has antifungal properties. This report describes a Korean male patient with mycologically confirmed tinea pedis that was treated effectively with two sessions of nitrogen plasma treatment at one-week intervals using a plasma delivering system. Nitrogen plasma was prepared by loading a 0.28-ml inert nitrogen gas/pulse that was activated by a microwave generator. The other treatment settings were a nozzle diameter of 5 mm, pulse energy of 0.75 J, pulse duration of 7 msec, and two passes. One week after the first session of nitrogen plasma treatment, the patient exhibited marked reductions in scale and inflammation. One month after the final treatment, no clinical features of recurrence were found, and successive potassium hydroxide testing revealed negative results.
This paper represents a real time algorithm which improves the some drawbacks in the past methods for detection of the QRS conplexes of ECG signals. In the conventional method we can't detect QRS complex and QRS duration more correctly in case of (1) the contaminated ECG with 60Hz noise, muscle noise. (2) the movement of the baseline for a QRS complex. (3) being abnormal QRS complex with prolonging QRS. Therefore, we have proposed a new algorithm which can detect accurate QRS complex detection in case of the contaminated ECG with 60Hz noise, muscle noise, and movement of baseline for QRS complex. Moreover, in case of prolonging QRS we accomplished to detect not only QRS complex but also a single pulse that has a width proportional to QRS duration. This algorithm which is proposed in our paper in our paper in programmed with 6502 assembly language for real time ECG signal processing.
Electrically assisted (EA) springback reduction of grade 2 titanium alloys is demonstrated through u-bending experiments. A single pulse of electric current having a short duration of less than 0.5 sec is applied to a specimen during u-bending. The effect of the electric current condition on the resultant springback is then evaluated. The experimental result shows that the springback of the selected grade 2 titanium alloy could almost be eliminated through application of electric current with a duration less than 0.5 sec prior to unloading. Lastly, an exemplary industrial application of EA springback control is presented.
