  • With continuous industrial development, the types, and amount of particulate matter (PM) have been increasing. Since 2018, environmental standards regarding PM have become more stringent. Pulse air jet bag filters are suitable for PM under the 20 ㎛ and, can function regardless of size, concentration and type. Filtration velocity and shape are important factors in the operation and design of the pulse air jet bag filters however, few established studies support this theory. In this research, numerical simulations were conducted based on experimental values and, several methods were employed for minimizing the pressure drop. In the pilot system, as the inlet duct velocity was faster than 19 m/sec, flow was not distributed equally and, re-entrainment occurred due to the hopper directional vortex. The multi-inlet system decelerated the hopper directional vortex by 25 ~ 30%, thereby decreasing total pressure drop by 6.6 ~ 14.7%. The guide vane system blocked the hopper directional vortex, which resulted optimal vane angle of 53°. The total pressure of the guide vane system increased by 0.5 ~ 3% at 1.5 m/min conditions. However, the filtration pressure drop decreased by 4.8 ~ 12.3% in all conditions, thereby reducing the operating cost of filter bags.

  • Objective: Increased aortic and carotid arterial augmentation index (AI) is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease. The most widely used approach for determining central arterial AI is by calculating the aortic pressure waveform from radial arterial waveforms using a transfer function. But how the change of waveform by applied pressure and the pattern of the change rely on subject's characteristics has not been recognized. In this study, we use a new method for measuring radial waveform and observe the change of waveform and the deviation of radial AI in the same position by applied pressure. Method: Forty-six non-patient volunteers (31 men and 15 women, age range 21-58 years) were enrolled for this study. Informed consent in a form approved by the institutional review board was obtained in all subjects. Blood pressure was measured on the left upper arm using an oscillometric method, radial pressure waves were recorded with the use of an improved automated tonometry device. DMP-3000(DAEYOMEDI Co., Ltd. Ansan, Korea) has robotics mechanism to scan and trace automatically. For each subject, we performed the procedure 5 times for each applied pressure level. We could thus obtain 5 different radial pulse waveforms for the same person's same position at different applied pressures. All these processes were repeated twice for test reproducibility. Result: Aortic AI, peripheral AI and radial AI were higher in women than in men (P<0.01), radial AI strongly correlated with aortic AI, and radial AI was consistently approximately 39% higher than aortic AI. Relationship between representative radial AI of DMP-3000 and peripheral AI of SphygmoCor had strongly correlation. And there were three patterns in change of pulse waveform. Conclusion: In this study, it is revealed the new device was sufficient to measure how radial AI and radial waveform from the same person at the same time change under applied pressure and it had inverse-proportion to applied pressure.

  • A radial artery pulse wave is measured while pressing an artery with constant force. However, pulse waveform measurements vary depending on pressing force and direction. Accurate pulse waveform measurements are important for analysis. Thus, it is necessary to define the measurement range of the permissible force and direction from which a correct pulse waveform is derived. In this study, pulse waves were generated by a pulse wave generator for accurate control. The pulse waves generated for different angles and pressing forces were analyzed. The augmentation index (AIx), which is the most commonly used index for evaluating vascular stiffness, was analyzed. The AIx was measured within ${\pm}6^{\circ}$ of the vessel direction and within ${\pm}8^{\circ}$ perpendicular to the vessel direction with a force that was 25% or more of the pressing force at which the maximum pressure wave was generated. We identified the applicable pressing force and angle range by analyzing the effect of pressing angle on the pulse wave. The AIx analysis performed using the pulse wave measurement device is reliable and reproducible.

  • This paper has aimed to prevent excessive heat input by controlling arc distribution and heat input capacity with pulse GTAW in order to improve weld quality in 0.08mm pressure gauge diaphragm and flange welding parts. A design of experiment was designed using Box-Behnken method to optimize a welding process. The pulse GTAW parameters such as pulse current, base current, pulse duty, frequency and welding speed were set to input variables while hydraulic pressure that represents welding characteristics in diaphragm and flange joint were set to output variables. Based on the test result, a second regression equation was obtained between input and output variables and turned out significant. Besides, an influence of parameters has been confirmed through response surface analysis using the second-order regression equation and optimum welding condition was obtained through a grid-search method. The optimum welding condition was set to pulse current 84.4(A), base current 29.6(A), pulse duty 58.8(%), frequency 10(%), and welding speed 596(mm/min). Then, decent bead shape was acquired with no excessive heat input under the $2.3kgf/cm^2$ of hydrostatic pressure.

  • Cylindrical bag filter system with pulse jet cleaning has been the most common device to control particle laden exhaust gas from the various industrial processes. But, it has many shortcomings due to particle reattachment and frequent bag rupture. In recent years, rectangular type bag filter system has been developed to overcome the problems associated with the cylindrical system. However, not many studies about the rectangular system were not done, compared to the cylindrical system. In this study, the optimum pulse jet cleaning conditions were thus tested by the series of experiments. The factors tested in this study are pulse distance, pulse pressure, pulse duration, the number of holes for pulsing and bag materials. A single bag ($1,500mmL{\times}50mmW{\times}300mmH$) system and a multi-bags (3 bags in a row) were tested separately. The highest removal efficiency with a single bag system was found at the conditions with pulse distance of 10cm, pulse pressure of $3kg/cm^2$, pulse duration of 0.3s, pulse jet number of 6 and Polyester bag. With the multi-bags system, the best cleaning conditions were found at the bag interval of 20cm with the simultaneous pulsing and the bag interval of 15cm with the serial pulsing.

  • Hemorrhage shock occupies high rate in trauma patient's mortality and blood pressure is the variance that judges early diagnosis and the effect of remedy. Systolic blood pressure is related to pulse transit time(PTT). PTT means the time that is required to flow from the heart to peripheral artery. PTT is influenced from the length, cross section and stiffness of the blood vessels. It is hard to evaluate the correlation between systolic blood pressure and PTT because they are variable in human body. In this paper, we evaluated the correlation between the systolic blood pressure and PTT in normal and hemorrhage states using standardized rat. PTT is defined as the time differences between the R peak and the peak of pulse wave. The analyzed time differences of ECG and blood pressure are analyzed every 5minutes for 30 seconds when there is before and after bleeding. Before bleeding, systolic blood pressure and PTT are steadily preserved but when the bleeding comes started, systolic blood pressure is declined. However PTT was increased and decreased. Under the circumstance that the standardized rat is controlled by age, the length of the blood vessels, and any disease, it shows that PTT measurement using systolic blood pressure of bleeding is impossible.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the pressure drop due to the installation of venturi under diverse operating conditions such as dust concentration, pulse interval and pressure, and filtration velocity using algebraic-linear regression model and use it as an economic data and efficient operating condition for a pulse air jet bag filter. A pilot scale bag filter with a filter a filter size(Ø140 × 850ℓ, 12) was used, and the filters used in the experiment were the polyester filters most commonly used in real industrial sites. The SAS 9.4 program (SAS Institute, USA) was used to predict and to determine the effects of inlet concentration (Ci), pulse interval (Pi) and pressure (Pp), filtration velocity (Vf), presence or absence of venturi, etc. The results are shown below. The variation in pressure drop with or without venturi installation was 38.8 mmAq when venturi is installed and 47.6 mmAq when venturi is not installed, indicating a difference in pressure drop of 8.8 mmAq depending on venturi installation. It is estimated that the efficiency can be improved by about 18.5% if the venturi is installed.

  • This paper presents a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique to obtain compressive stress-strain data for rubber materials. An experimental technique that modifies the conventional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) has been developed for measuring the compressive stress-strain responses of materials with low mechanical impedance and low compressive strengths such as rubber. This paper introduces an all-polymeric pressure bar which achieves a closer impedance match between the pressure bar and the specimen materials. In addition, we are a pulse shaper to lengthen the rising time of the incident wave to ensure stress equilibrium and homogeneous deformation of a rubber materials. It is found that the modified technique can be determine the dynamic deformation behavior of an NBR rubber more accurately.
