  • We have designed the power supply of an 120W $CO_2$ Laser for non-metal material processings. High voltage is automatically controlled by means of thyristor triggered phase control. Pulse and C.W. mode are selectively generated by means of discharge current control. It is possible to interface this system with other Numerical Controller. Also, safety interlock circuit is incorporated in this system.

  • Recently a few MJ superconducting magnetic energy storage ($\mu$ SMES) devices become commerci-ally available as one of the energy storage devices for uniterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. For such a ($\mu$ SMES) devics, a few kA class superconducting cables with high current density, high stability and excellent pulse characteristics are required. To acquire data for the superconduction cables related to design and fabrication of a 0.7 MJ $\mu$ SMES device, we tested critical currents and quench characteristics for several winding tensions and various remping rates especially. It is shown from the results that winding tensions have much influence on quench currents of the $\mu$ SMES devices.

Frequency Synchronization of Three-Phase Grid-Connected Inverters Controlled as Current Supplies

  • In a three-phase system, three-phase AC signals can be translated into two-phase DC signals through a coordinate transformation. Thus, the PI regulator can realize a zero steady-state error for the DC signals. In the control of a three-phase grid-connected inverter, the phase angle of grid is normally detected by a phase-locked loop (PLL) and takes part in a coordinate transformation. A novel control strategy for a three-phase grid-connected inverter with a frequency-locked loop (FLL) based on coordinate transformation is proposed in this paper. The inverter is controlled as a current supply. The grid angle, which takes part in the coordinate transformation, is replaced by a periodic linear changing angle from $-{\pi}$ to ${\pi}$. The changing angle has the same frequency but a different phase than the grid angle. The frequency of the changing angle tracks the grid frequency by the negative feedback of the reactive power, which forms a FLL. The control strategy applies to non-ideal grids and it is a lot simpler than the control strategies with a PLL that are applied to non-ideal grids. The structure of the FLL is established. The principle and advantages of the proposed control strategy are discussed. The theoretical analysis is confirmed by experimental results.

  • A prototype semiconductor switch for the command resonant charging system has been developed for a line type modulator, which charges parallel pulse forming network(PFN) up to voltage of 5 kV at repetition rates of 60 Hz. A phase controlled power supply provides charging of the 4.7 ${\mu}s$ filter capacitor bank to voltage up to 5 kV. A solid state module of series stack array of sixe matched SCRs(1.6 kV, 50 A) is used as a command charging switch to initiate the resonant charging cycle. Both resistive and RC snubber network are used across each stage of the switch assembly in order to ensure proper voltage division during both steady state and transient condition. A master trigger signal is generated to trigger circuits which are transmitted through pulse transformer to each of the 6 series switch stages. A pulse transformer is required for high voltage trigger or power isolation. This paper will discuss trigger method, protection scheme, circuit simulation, and test result.

  • DC/DC스위칭 전력 컨버터는 임의의 직류전원을 부하가 요구하는 형태의 직류전원으로 변환시킨다. DC/DC 컨버터는 PWM-IC를 이용하여 주기적으로 입력측에서 출력측으로 전달되는 에너지를 제어하는 기능을 수행하는데, PWM-IC(펄스폭 변조-집적회로), MOSFET(산화물-반도체 전계 효과 트랜지스터), 인덕터, 콘덴서, 저항 등으로 구성되어 있다. 방사선의 영향으로 DC/DC 컨버터의 PWM-IC 를 구성하는 비교기(comparator)와 연산증폭기(OP-Amp.) 등 전자소자의 열화 효과(radiation effects)가 발생되는데, PWM-IC 동작에서 SPICE 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통해 펄스의 상실, 펄스폭의 변화, 그리고 출력파형의 변화를 연구하는데 있다.

  • Integrated circuit of a new neuron chain with a synapse function for Hodgkin-Huxley model which is a good electrical model about a real biological neuron is implemented in a $0.5{\mu}m$ 1 poly 2 metal CMOS technology. Pulse type neuron chain consist of series connected current controlled single neurons through synapses. For the realization of the single neuron, a pair of voltage mode oscillators using operational transconductance amplifiers and capacitors is used. The synapse block which is a connection element between neurons consist of a voltage-current conversion circuit using current mirror. SPICE simulation results of the proposed circuit show 160 mV amplitude pulse output and propagation of the signal through synapses. Measurements of the fabricated pulse type neuron chip in condition of ${\pm}2.5\;V$ power supply are shown and compared with the simulated results.

  • 압전 세라믹 액추에이터는 스프레이, 디스펜서, 밸브제어와 같은 다양한 산업제품들에 응용된다. 압전 세라믹 소자의 기계적인 변위의 크기는 인가 전압의 크기에 의해 정해지므로, 압전 세라믹 액추에이터 구동을 위해서는 고전압 전원장치와 함께 전력증폭기가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 간단하고 크기가 작은 H-브리지 형태의 전력증폭기와 플라이백 고전압 스위칭 모드 전원장치를 개발하였다. H-브리지 형태의 전력증폭기는 펄스폭 변조를 이용하여 압전 세라믹 액추에이터에 대한 에너지 입력의 크기를 쉽게 조절할 수 있다는 장점이 있다.

Sputtering Technique of Magnesium Oxide Thin Film for Plasma Display Panel Applications

  • A high rate deposition sputtering process of magnesium oxide thin film in oxide mode has been developed using a 20 kW unipolar pulsed power supply. The power supply was operated at a maximum constant voltage of 500 V and a constant current of 40 A. The pulse repetition rate and the duty were changed in the ranges of $10\sim50$ kHz and $10\sim60%$, respectively. The deposition rate increased with rising incident power to the target. Maximum incident power to the magnesium target was obtained by the control of frequency, duty and current. The deposition rate of a moving state was 9 nm m/min at the average power of 1.5 kW. This result shows higher deposition rate than any other previous work involving reactive sputtering in oxide mode. The thickness uniformities over the entire substrate area of $982mm{\times}563mm$ were observed at the processing pressure of $2.8\sim9.5$ mTorr. The thickness distribution was improved at lower pressure. This technique is proposed for application to a high through-put sputtering system for plasma display panels.

의료기기용 고속 고출력 레이저 다이오드 드라이버 개발 (A Study On the High Speed High Power LD Driver for Medical Application)

  • 본 논문은 고속 고출력 레이저 다이오드(Laser Diode: LD) 구동에 사용되는 펄스형 전원장치의 개발에 관하여 논 하였다. 고속 고출력 레이저는 주로 가공기기나 의료기기 등에 응용되고 있어 그 사용 범위가 넓어지는 추세이나 관련된 기술에 대한 연구는 활발히 이루어지지 않은 편이다. 본 연구에서는 고속 고출력 LD의 구동에 적합한 LLC컨버터에 관한 연구를 수행 하였으며 특히 LD의 수명을 고려하여 구동 전류의 주파수를 유지하며 인가되는 전류의 크기를 임계전류를 고려한 방식으로 설계하여 드라이버 설계를 수행하였으며 그 결과를 실험을 통하여 확인하였다.

  • At present, the low-voltage, high-current type power supply is mainly used for effective sterilization in the ballast water treatment system. Research on PSFB converters without output capacitors has been ongoing. Such converters effectively treat ballast water without a separate disinfectant through electric pulses by applying a pulse-type power to the output electrode without an output capacitor. However, in the case of the pulse-type electrolysis treatment method, voltage overshoot can occur due to abrupt voltage fluctuations when the load changes, resulting in circuit reliability problems because of the output capacitorless system. Therefore, a new voltage control algorithm is required. In this paper, we will discuss voltage control for pulsed electrolysis topology without an output capacitor. The proposed voltage control method has been verified using Simulation and experiment. The usefulness of the proposed control method has been proven by the experimental results.
