In a SI engine, three-way catalyst converter has the best efficiency when A/F ratio is near the stoichiometry. The feedback control using oxygen sensors in the commercial engine has limits caused by the system delays. So it is necessary to control fuel quantity in accordance with intake air amount in order to reduce exhaust emission and improve the specific fuel consumption. Precise A/F ratio control requires measurement of air amount with respect to the cylinder and injection fuel according to the air amount In this paper, we applied nonlinear fuel injection model and developed the algorithm of A/F ratio control. This algorithm includes the methods of measurement of transient air mass flowing into each cylinder, of calculation of injection pulse width for measured air mass, and the method of feedback and engine control by using lambda sensor. Also we developed control program for IBM-PC by using C++ Builder, and tested it in the commercial engine.
Alcohol is a vesatile polar solvent for molecules. As a preparation to deposit large molecules, we studied interaction of solvent molecules on metallic surface. in this work, we report on methanol adsorption on NiAl(110) with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). These alcohol solvent molecules were deposited by a pulse injection method suitable for deposition of thermally unstable molecules. The injection of liquid alcohol onto the substrate in UHV was performed by using a high-speed solenoid valve with the back-pressure reduced down to 100 Torr. This technique allowed precise control over the amount of dosing of molecules to less than 1 L. Alcohol-induced features, attributed to methoxy, were found on bare NiAl(110) surface.
Background: To compare the anesthetic efficacy of supplemental buccal infiltration (BI) (1.7 ml) versus intraligamentary (IL) injection containing 0.4 ml of 4% articaine with 1:100.000 epinephrine after an inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) with 1.7 ml 2% lidocaine in the first and second mandibular molars diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis (IP). Methods: One hundred subjects diagnosed with IP of either the mandibular first (n = 50) or second molars (n = 50) and failed profound anesthesia following an IANB were selected. They randomly received either the IL or BI techniques of anesthesia. Pain scores on a 170 mm Heft-Parker visual analog scale were recorded initially, before, and during supplemental injections. Furthermore, pulse rate was measured before and after each supplemental injection. During the access cavity preparation and initial filing, no or mild pain was assumed to indicate anesthetic success. The chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, and independent samples t-test were used for the analyses. Results: The overall success rates were 80% in the IL group and 74% in the BI group, with no significant difference (P = 0.63). In the first molars, there was no significant difference between the two techniques (P = 0.088). In the second molars, IL injection resulted in a significantly higher success rate (P = 0.017) than BI. IL injection was statistically more successful (P = 0.034) in the second molars (92%) than in the first molars (68%). However, BI was significantly more successful (P = 0.047) in the first molars (88%) than in the second molars (64%). The mean pulse rate increase was significantly higher in the IL group than in the BI group (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Both the IL and BI techniques were advantageous when used as supplemental injections. However, more favorable outcomes were observed when the second molars received IL injection and the first molars received BI.
A technique to suppress the low frequency ripple voltage of the DC output in three phase buck diode converter is presented in this paper. The proposed pulse frequency modulation methods and duty ratio modulation methods are employed to regulate the output voltage of the buck diode converter and guarantee zero-current-switching(ZCS) of the switch over the wide load range. The proposed control methods used in this paper provide generally good performance such as low THD of the input line current and unity power factor. In addition, control methods can be effectively used to suppress the low frequency ripple voltage appeared in the dc output voltage. The harmonic injection technique illustrates its validity and effectiveness through the simulations and experiments.
Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have higher torque and superior output power per volume than other types of AC motors. They are commonly used for applications that require a large output power and a wide range of speed. For precise control of PMSMs, knowing the accurate position of the rotor is essential, and normally position sensors such as a resolver or an encoder are employed. On the other hand, the position sensors make the driving system expensive and unstable if the attached sensor malfunctions. Therefore, sensorless algorithms are widely researched nowadays, to reduce the cost and cope with sensor failure. This paper proposes a sensorless algorithm that can be applied to a wide range of speed. The proposed method features a robust operation at low-speed as well as high-speed ranges by employing a gain adjustment scheme and intermittent voltage pulse injection method. In the proposed scheme the position estimation gain is tuned by a closed loop manner to have stable operation in tough driving environment. The proposed algorithm is fully verified by various experiments done with a 1 kW outer rotor-type PMSM.
In this study, we produced a coil of micro-pattern that can be used for electromagnetic wave absorber, heating material, wireless charging, sensor, antenna, etc. by using electrochemical additive manufacturing method. Currently, it contains research contents for manufacturing a micro pattern coil having practicality through control of process control variables such as applied voltage, distance between electrode, and nozzle injection. Circulation of the electrolyte through the nozzle injection control can significantly contribute to improving the surface characteristics of the coil because of minimizing voltage fluctuations that may occur during the additive manufacturing process. In addition, by applying the pulse method in the application of voltage, the lamination characteristics of the plated body were improved, which showed that the formation of a fine line width plays an important role in the production of a micro pattern coil. By applying the pulse signal to the voltage application, the additive manufacturing characteristics of the produced product were improved, and it was shown that the formation of a fine line width plays an important role in the production of a micro pattern coil.
Two experiments were conducted to determine whether leptin is a metabolic signal for gonadotropin secretion in ewes. In the first experiment, twenty-eight cyclic Chal ewes were assigned randomly to an energy restricted, no leptin group (ERNL) (60% of maintenance; n = 14) and an energy normal, no leptin group (ENNL) (100% of maintenance; n = 14) for 71 days (6 estrous cycles). Estrus was synchronized with seven consecutive injections of $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ Biweekly, body weight (BW) and body condition score (BCS) were determined and blood samples were collected to measure plasma leptin concentration. Blood samples were also taken to determine plasma progesterone concentration twice weekly. After each PG injection from the second injection to the end of experiment, four ewes were selected and blood samples were collected at 20 minutes and at hourly intervals for 3 h to detect plasma LH and FSH concentration. In the second experiment, after the ceasing of the estrous cycle caused by energy restriction, six acyclic ewes were selected and randomly allotted to two groups (n = 3) and received the following treatment for four days. Ewes in an energy restricted, leptin group (ERL) were fed with a ration which provided 60% of maintenance energy requirements and intravenously injected with $4{\mu}g$ leptin/kg BW daily. Ewes in an energy excess, no leptin group (EENL) were fed with a ration that provided 180% (120%+60%) of maintenance energy requirements and intravenously injected with 1 ml saline daily. In both groups, blood samples were collected at 20 minutes and at hourly intervals for 3 h before feeding on d 0 and d 5, and for 3 h before and after injections as above on d 2 and d 4 to detect plasma LH and FSH concentration. In the first experiment, BW and BCS from the $2^{nd}$ estrous cycle, and leptin from the $3^{rd}$ estrous cycle to the end of the experiment significantly (p<0.05) decreased. In ERNL ewes, mean plasma concentrations of FSH significantly (p<0.01) decreased from the $4^{th}$ estrous cycle to d 71 and LH pulsatile secretion was suppressed on d 71, so that, mean plasma concentrations of LH (p<0.05), LH pulse frequency (p<0.01) and LH pulse amplitude (p<0.05) significantly decreased. In the second experiment, injection of leptin significantly increased mean circulating concentrations of LH (p<0.05), LH pulse frequency (p<0.01), LH pulse amplitude (p<0.05) and mean circulating concentrations of FSH (p<0.01) and leptin (p<0.01). High energy intake significantly (p<0.05) stimulated pulsatile secretion of LH and leptin secretion (p<0.01), but non-significantly increased plasma FSH concentration. The results of this study indicate that leptin is a metabolic signal for the GnRH-LH/FSH axis in feed-restricted fat-tailed ewes.
The PLS 2-GeV linac employs 11 units of high-power pulsed klystrons(80MW) as the main RF sources. The matching modulators of 200 MW(400kV, 500 A) can provide a flat-top pulse width of 4.4 ${\mu}s$ with a maximum pulse repetition rate of 120 Hz at the full power level. For a good stability of electron beams, the pulse-to-pulse flat-top voltage variation of a modulator requires less than 0.5%. In order to achieve this goal, we stabilized high voltage charging power supplies within 1% by a phase controlled SCR voltage regulator. In addition, we employed ac/dc feedback together with a resistive De-Q'ing system to achieve far less than 0.5% variation of the PFN charging voltage. This paper presents the main feature of the klystron-modulator system and the characteristics of the pulsed high-power RF system performance during the beam injection operation for the Pohang Light Source commissioning.

In this paper the effects of a Static Synchronous Series Compensator, which is constructed with a 48-pulse inverter, on the power demand from the grid are studied. Extensive simulation studies were carried out in the MATLAB simulation environment to observe the compensation achieved by the SSSC and its effects on the line voltage, line current, phase angle and real/reactive power. The designed device is simulated in a power system which is comprised of a three phase power source, a transmission line, line inductance and load. The system parameters such as line voltage, line current, reactive power Q and real power P transmissions are observed both when the SSSC is connected to and disconnected from the power system. The motivation for modeling a SSSC from a multi-pulse inverter is to enhance the voltage waveform of the device and this is observed in the total harmonic distortion (THD) analysis performed at the end of the paper. According to the results, the power flow and phase angle can be controlled successfully by the new device through voltage injection. Finally a THD analysis is performed to see the harmonics content. The effect on the quality of the line voltage and current is acceptable according to international standards.
