Aero-pulsation noise, generally caused by geometric asymmetry of a rotating device, is one of considerable sources of annoyance in passenger cars using the turbocharged diesel engine. Main source of this noise is the compressor wheel in the turbocharger system, and can be reduced by after-treatment devices such as silencers, but which may increase the manufacturing cost. More effective solution is to improve the geometric symmetry over all, or to control the quality of components by sorting out inferior ones. The latter is more simple and reasonable than the former in view of manufacturing. Thus, an appropriate discrimination method should be needed to evaluate aero-pulsation noise level at the production line. In this paper, we introduce the accurate method which can measure the noise level of aero-pulsation and also present its evaluation criteria. Besides verifying the reliability of a measurement system - a rig test system-, we analyze the correlation between the results from rig tests and those from vehicle tests. The gage R&R method is carried out to check the repeatability of measurements over 25 samples. From the result, we propose the standard specification which can discriminate inferior products from superior ones on the basis of aero-pulsation noise level.
The wind-formed features observed in the early SNe spectra type II and Ia give an evidence of the existence of an ellipsoidal shell formed by the stellar wind prior to the explosion. Such non-spherical shell can occur not only at scales of parsec (the case of SN 1987 A progenitor), but at the scales of 1000 times less. Such shells can be the result of the radial pulsation. The prolate multi-shell structures are interpreted as a result of a pulsation processes with recurrent wind ejections with velocity increasing.

This paper presents a case history on failures of impeller and shaft due to pressure pulsation at single stage feed water pumps in 700 MW nuclear power plant during commissioning operation. The pumps had been service and had run for approximately $40{\sim}50$ hours. For the most part, the failures of impeller occurred with the presence of a number of fatigue cracks. All cracks were associated with the deleterious surface layer of impeller by visual and metallurgical examination. On-site testing and analytical approach was performed on the systems to diagnose the problem and develop a solution to reduce the effect of exciting sources. A major concern at high-energy centrifugal pump is the pressure pulsation created from trailing edge of the Impeller blade, flow separation and recirculation at centrifugal pumps of partial load. Pressure pulsation due to the interaction generating between impeller and casing coincided with natural frequencies of the impeller and shaft system during 1ow load operation. It was identified that dynamic stress exceeding the fatigue strength of the material at the thin shroud section due to the hydraulic instability at running condition below BEP.

Target strength (TS) information is an important parameter that estimates the detection, distribution, and abundance of Aurelia aurita. In order to investigate the biological TS of jellyfish, some factors such as size (bell diameter), tilt angle, pulsation, and symbion should be known. In the ex situ TS measurements, the tilt angles and pulsation from synchronized swimming behavior of four live A. aurita (bell diameters in the air: 54.2 ~ 94.2 mm) were measured with the acoustic data at 70 kHz. The reduced target strength (RTS) of A. aurita was found to change ranged from 13.4 ~ 16.5 dB according to the incidence angles from $-30^{\circ}$ to $24^{\circ}$. When the change rate of bell diameter in the water was 0.2, the TS value showed a 7.2 dB change. These results could be utilized as an important data to understand the acoustic characteristic scattering of A. aurita.
The effect of gain dispersion on the self-pulsation (SP) characteristics due to the mode beating of two modes emitted in a multisection DFB laser composed of two complex-coupled DFB sections and a phase control section is investigated. When the peak wavelength, ${\lambda}_{p}$, of the gain spectrum of the DFB section is positioned in the center of the lasing wavelengths or the Bragg wavelengths of the two DFB sections, the maximum SP frequencies are higher and the modulation index has better characteristics compared to those cases for ${\lambda}_{p}$ fixed at the lasing wavelength or Bragg wavelength of one DFB section, when the difference between the Bragg wavelengths of the two DFB sections, ${\Dalta}{\lambda}_{B}$, is varied. When ${\lambda}_{p}$ is positioned in the renter of the Bragg wavelengths of the two DFB sections, the maximum SP frequency is higher and of the modulation index has better characteristics compared to those of the case for ${\lambda}_{p}$ positioned in the center of the lasing wavelengths of the two DFB sections.

The reactor internals shall be secured in safety and structural integrity under various vibrational loading conditions. Thus, U.S. NRC, Regulatory Guide 1.20 requires the evaluation for the reactor internals due to acoustic induced vibration including the response to the reactor coolant pump pressure pulsation. This paper suggests a methodology to develop an analytical model of the core support barrel accounting for the fluid around the structure and to analyze the responses to the pump pulsation loads using acoustic structure interaction analysis. The analysis results were compared with those of US Palo Verde 1 CVAP and showed a good agreement. Thus, it is expected that the suggested methodology could be an efficient way to evaluate the response of the core support barrel to the pump pulsation loads.
Arteria radialis is a branch of the brachial artery extending down the forearm around the wrist where it closes to skin surface. In the oriental medicine, the skin above arteria radialis has an important role because oriental medicine practitioners put their finger tips on the area, and diagnose patient's health conditions by feeling the pulsation of the arterial contraction. The finger tip diagnostic method relies on subjective decision of the practitioner; and there is a need to develop an objective diagnostic modality. The pulsation of the arterial contraction appears not only a movement on the site but also as temperature fluctuation due to pulsatile feeding of warmer blood. The goal of this study is to demonstrate a feasibility of using an infrared camera quantitatively to detect the temperature fluctuation on the skin. Clinical important three different areas, called chon, gwan, chuk, near a wrist where the arteria radialis reaches close to skin surface are marked with small pieces of surgical tape. A high-speed and high-resolution infrared camera with a 3 cm of field of view measures these areas for 10 second at 200 frames per second with a 320*240 pixel size. The pulsatile temperature fluctuation is calculated after passing a band pass filter to remove any stationary temperature over 10 second. The temperature fluctuation of a healthy male volunteer is measured at a room temperature as a control, and is compared with another measurement performed after 20 minutes staying in a room at a 40 degree Celsius. This comparison is repeated for three times, and indicates that the fluctuation increases after staying 20 minutes in the warm room. This increase becomes smaller when the person stays in the warm room with an acupuncture treatment that decreases body temperature. So that an objective diagnostics on the site may become feasible.
Objective: The aim of this case report is to report the effect of Korean medicine treatment, including Shihogayonggolmoryo-tang, on anxiety and abdominal pulsation in a patient diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. Method: The patient was treated with Shihogayonggolmoryo-tang, including acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping therapy. Changes in symptoms were evaluated using a self-reported numerical rating scale (NRS) score every morning. The gastrointestinal symptom score (GIS) was checked on admission and discharge day. Results: After 6 days, the NRS scores for anxiety, abdominal pulsation, abdomen discomfort, and GIS all decreased. Conclusion: The results suggest that Shihogayonggolmoryo-tang with Korean medicine could be effective for treating anxiety, abdominal pulsation, and accompanying abdomen symptoms. However, further evaluation is needed to clarify the relationship between the treatment's effect and Shihogayonggolmoryo-tang.

In a utility interactive photovoltaic generation system. a PWM inverter is used for the connection between the p photovoltaic arrays and the utility. The dc current becomes pulsated when the conventional inverter system operates i in the continuous current mode and de current pulsation causes the distortion of the accurrent waveform. This paper p presents the reduced pulsation of de input current by operating the inverter with buck-boost chopper in the d discontinuous conduction mode. The dc current which contains harmonic component is analyzed by means of s separating into two terms of a ripple component and a direct component. The constant dc current without p pulsation is supplied from photovoltaic array to the inverter. The proposed inverter system provides a sinusoidal ac c current for domestic loads and the utility line with unity power factor.

In previous modeling of Helmholtz-type pulse combustion water heater, muffler and the motion of the flapper valve were omitted. In present work, these have been included in modeling for providing more accurate information regarding the thermal and dynamic behavior of the water heater. In addition, a computer simulation based on the modeling was developed. The comparison of computer predictions with available experimental data shows that the simulation is satisfactory in predicting the nature of operating behavior, amplitudes of the pressure oscillations, and the magnitude of the frequency. But the predicted time-averaged axial temperature of the flue gas along the flue tube length is somewhat below the previous experimental results. The temperature pulsation of the combustion chamber and the velocity pulsation of the flue gas were predicted which have never been measured in previous studies. In particular, the latter is of importance for a valid determination of the heat transfer enhancement due to the gas flow pulsation. Heat transfer results in flue tube were presented and discussed. Also the effects on the installation of the muffler were investigated.
