Framework for Content-Based Image Identification with Standardized Multiview Features

  • Information identification with image data by means of low-level visual features has evolved as a challenging research domain. Conventional text-based mapping of image data has been gradually replaced by content-based techniques of image identification. Feature extraction from image content plays a crucial role in facilitating content-based detection processes. In this paper, the authors have proposed four different techniques for multiview feature extraction from images. The efficiency of extracted feature vectors for content-based image classification and retrieval is evaluated by means of fusion-based and data standardization-based techniques. It is observed that the latter surpasses the former. The proposed methods outclass state-of-the-art techniques for content-based image identification and show an average increase in precision of 17.71% and 22.78% for classification and retrieval, respectively. Three public datasets - Wang; Oliva and Torralba (OT-Scene); and Corel - are used for verification purposes. The research findings are statistically validated by conducting a paired t-test.

Adaptive Attention Annotation Model: Optimizing the Prediction Path through Dependency Fusion

  • Previous methods build image annotation model by leveraging three basic dependencies: relations between image and label (image/label), between images (image/image) and between labels (label/label). Even though plenty of researches show that multiple dependencies can work jointly to improve annotation performance, different dependencies actually do not "work jointly" in their diagram, whose performance is largely depending on the result predicted by image/label section. To address this problem, we propose the adaptive attention annotation model (AAAM) to associate these dependencies with the prediction path, which is composed of a series of labels (tags) in the order they are detected. In particular, we optimize the prediction path by detecting the relevant labels from the easy-to-detect to the hard-to-detect, which are found using Binary Cross-Entropy (BCE) and Triplet Margin (TM) losses, respectively. Besides, in order to capture the inforamtion of each label, instead of explicitly extracting regional featutres, we propose the self-attention machanism to implicitly enhance the relevant region and restrain those irrelevant. To validate the effective of the model, we conduct experiments on three well-known public datasets, COCO 2014, IAPR TC-12 and NUSWIDE, and achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art methods.

  • This study is meaningful in figuring out how much the Korean people's awareness of hanok has increased even though interest in hanok has also increased due to the Korean Wave craze. Therefore, with respect to the exterior of hanok, which is visually recognized first, the level of experts and ordinary people is grasped through a semantic discrimination scale, and the degree of visual recognition is to be investigated centering on the color image of hanok buildings. This is the process of thinking about how the Korean image should be reflected in the design, and we want to suggest the direction that modern hanok should go. The study compared and analyzed the difference in visual color based on the elevation of the hanok using a 7-point and 5-point scale method for the general public and experts, and utilized the IRI adjective vocabulary scale and the color matching image scale to construct new hanoks with insufficient differences in appearance and shape. It can be applied to design and image preservation and construction of existing hanok.

원자력 발전에 대한 국민 신뢰감 회복 PR 정책방안 (A Public Relations Policy Studies on Recovered Confidence of the People for a Nuclear Power Plant)

  • 본 연구는 원자력 발전에 대한 국민 신뢰감 회복을 위한 홍보정책 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 기존에 여론조사와 2차 자료를 검토하여 원전 안전에 대한 국민 불신감 문제점을 제기하였으며, 메타분석을 활용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 원전에 대한 국민 신뢰감 회복 홍보정책은 크게 세 가지를 제시하였다. 첫째, 원전에 대한 경제성/안전성 소통전략을 단기적/장기적 측면에서 제안하였다. 둘째, 원전 신뢰성 강화 소통전략을 단기적/장기적 측면에서 제안하였다. 끝으로, 한국수력원자력의 장기적 이미지 구축방안을 제안하였다. 본 연구결과는 한국의 원자력 발전에 대한 신뢰감을 증대시키는 효과를 제시할 것으로 기대한다.

The Effect of Intellectual Capital and Financial Services Knowledge on Financial Inclusion

  • The study aims to determine the influence of intellectual capital and education on public financial services in increasing financial inclusion. This study applied a survey technique by selecting respondents according to the purposive sampling method. The number of respondents in this study was 500 people and came from various regions in Indonesia. Data analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) techniques. The results indicate that intellectual capital has a positive effect on financial inclusion. Conversely, education about public financial services has no influence in increasing financial inclusion. The results of this study indicate that the success of financial inclusion programs in Indonesia is caused more by the role of public intellectual capital. Studies show that the public does not have the courage to be involved in banking institutions because the image of this institution tends to be inflexible in its operations. The results of this study are expected to make a real contribution, especially for the government and banks, that in order to achieve the success of the financial inclusion program in Indonesia; the related parties should educate the public directly to citizens who have not been reached by banking services continuously and with a more down to earth approach.

  • In this paper, we describe the configuration of the KITSAT-3 image data receiving, archiving, processing and distribution system in operation. Following the low-cost and software-based design concept, the whole system is composed of three PCs : two for data receiving, archiving and processing which provide a full dual-redundant configuration and one for image catalog browsing which can be accessed by public users. Except that receiving and archiving PCs have serial data ingest boards plugged in, they are configured by general peripherals. This basic and simple hardware configuration made it possible to show that a very low cost system can support a full ground operation for the utilization of high-resolution satellite image data.

Relationship between Body Image and Breast Self-examination Intentions and Behaviors among Female University Students in Malaysia

  • This study aimed to examine the relationship between body image satisfaction and breast self-screening behaviors and intentions. The sample for this cross-sectional study consisted of 842 female university students who were recruited from a number of public and private universities. Data were obtained between the months of November and December, 2013, using multistage random cluster sampling. Main research variables were breast cancer screening behavior and intentions, demographic factors, and the total scores on each of the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ-Appearance Scales) subscales. Results of multivariate analysis showed that having higher satisfaction and more positive evaluation of appearance were related to having performed breast self-examination more frequently in the last year and intending to perform breast self-examination more frequently in the next year. Longitudinal research can potentially provide detailed information about overall body image satisfaction and breast cancer screening behavior among various communities.

  • In remote control of telerobotics equipment, the real-time visual feedback is necessary in order to facilitate real-time control. Because of the network congestion and the associated delays, the real-time image feedback is generally difficult in the public networks like internet.   • In darkroom condition, it was observed that a white picture pattern lasted several minutes leaves a recognizable trace in subsequent black background picture. Although this is not a serious problem for the most current public display or home TV applications, the image sticking should be minimized for future high quality multimedia display applications. In order to characterize this picture memory effect having relatively long time scale, spatially resolved luminance measurement and light waveform measurement have been performed. Pixels located at the outer boundary of white pattern previously displayed shows highest luminance. These cells also shows fastest ignition at the ramp up reset sequence. The luminance and ignition voltage differences between boundary cells and the other cells are increased with display duration and number of sustain-pulse. It is speculated that image sticking observed at the boundary cell is originated from the transport of charged particles and re-deposition of reactive species such as Mg, O provided from strong sustain discharge region.
