As societal development improves the quality of life and changes the structure of society, the needs of the residents have been varied. As a result, the spaces in Korean houses have also been varied. This phenomenon can be found in both external and internal spaces; a transitional space, which connects the outside space and the inside space, is formed as transition occurs at each phase of movement. As the importance of external and internal spaces is emphasized, and as internal spaces are extended to the exterior, various forms of transitional space are needed. In this study, the boundary types of internal/external spaces are analyzed through transitional spaces that are formed in relation with internal and external spaces. Based on the analysis, transitional spaces in modem Korean houses are classified into the addition type, the cutting type, and the connection type. The results of the study show that transitional spaces in detached houses tend to be placed closely to rooms and a public space, and in terms of material use, the externalization of internal spaces is occurring.
The aim of this study is actual conditions to analyse of community center in Cheongweon-gun and propose operation method. In this study, I deduced some problems and proposed improvement planing corresponded to new needs through such as external appearance, inner space analysis, operating actual conditions analysis and etc., of existing community center in Cheongweon-gun. And I wish to present more efficient architectural space organization and operation method with these surveying results. The result of this study are as follows; Community center as representative community facilities is necessary to reflect of village characteristics on the exterior of buildings, and decision of scale and usage considered number of residents, visitors, and ages. For management of the community center, it is necessary of sustainable obtain of management cost, and provision against rebuilding and enlargement of building.
Most of the Korean multi-dwelling houses have less than 20 years of lifespan. Because the environmental issues such as energy consumption, limited resources, and demolition waste problems became been more and more critical, we now need to focus on long lasting and adaptable buildings. Korean wall bearing apartment buildings are constructed with site cast concrete for core, exterior, and interior together with pipes varied, so when the buildings are old and life style of the users changes, it is difficult to maintain and renovate these buildings. In this study, to resolve the problems described above, two types of Korean long life multi-dwelling housing models which represent improved durability and adaptability responding user's needs and life style changes were proposed with various methods as follows: Either column and beam structure or flat slab structure was used to utilize space better. To make maintenance easier and renovation economical for both public space and each unit, plumbing pipes, ducts, and conduits were clustered at the cores and public corridors with access doors and light weight partitions with steel studs and raised floors or above-ceiling spaces were used in lieu of site cast concrete walls and floor slabs with varied pipes.
Laboratory buildings with specialized equipment and ventilation systems pose challenges in terms of efficient energy use and initial construction costs. Additionally, lab spaces should have flexible and efficient layouts and provide a comfortable indoor research environment. Therefore, this study aims to identify the correlation between the facade of a building and its interior layout from case studies of energy-efficient research labs and to propose passive energy design strategies for the establishment of an optimal research environment. The case studies in this paper were selected from the American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment Top Ten Projects and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified research lab projects. In this paper, the passive design strategies of space zoning, façade design devices to control heating and cooling loads were analyzed. Additionally, the relationships between these strategies and the interior lab layouts, lab support spaces, offices, and circulation areas were examined. The following four conclusions were drawn from the analysis of various cases: 1) space zoning for grouping areas with similar energy requirements is performed to concentrate similar heating and cooling demands to simplify the HVAC loads. 2) Public areas such as corridor, atrium, or courtyard can serve as buffer zones that employ passive solar design to minimize the mechanical energy load. 3) A balanced window-to-wall ratio (WWR), exterior shading devices, and natural ventilation systems are applied according to the space programming energy requirements to minimize the dependence on mechanical service. 4) Lastly, typical laboratory space zoning categories can be revised, reversed, and even reconfigured to minimize the energy load and adjust to the site context. This study can provide deep insights into various design strategies employed for construction of green laboratories along with intuitive arrangement of various building components such as laboratory spaces, lab support spaces, office spaces, and common public areas. The key findings of this study can contribute towards creating improved designs of laboratory facilities with reduced carbon footprint and greenhouse emissions.
This study was motivated by the need to identify the characteristics of professionals involved in planning exterior spaces in urban development projects and to provide guidelines for maintaining the identity of urban images. Urban development's impact on external spaces can alter the image of the urban structure, especially due to the many boundaries between urban and rural areas. Therefore, there is a need for public standards for external spaces in such projects. This study collects and analyzes experts' opinions to understand the characteristics of each professional, selects the relative importance of each, and uses this as a guideline for step-by-step deliberation in planning external spaces. The research scope includes analyzing each expert's characteristics based on the external space evaluation items from Lee Limjeong's 2023 study, which builds upon existing research, and presenting the importance and priority of each expert. As a methodology, a questionnaire was conducted for each expert group using the indicators established in Lee Lim Jung's 2023 study for external spaces in urban development projects. An in-depth analysis was performed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for each expert. Using AHP analysis, the composite weight for each of the 17 detailed items was first adjusted by the number of item weights to account for the classification level of the large and detailed items. Then, the composite importance was calculated by multiplying the importance of the large, medium, and detailed classifications. The calculated composite importance was finally adjusted by applying the number of item weights again, ensuring the sum of the 17 importance values equals 1. The final importance calculated through this process was then presented by occupation.
Many of penthouse apartments began to be built and distributed in Korea from the 2000s. However, we have a transformed definition from the international concept of penthouse. It seems that the penthouse apartments in Korea have a confined definition as a luxury and privileged house-we often find it out from advertisements of newly built apartments. In this thesis, therefore, it needs to make a clear and substantial definition of penthouse. And on the base of this definition, this study is intended to analyze planes of penthouse apartments which are distributed recently. It is in order to find out positive aspects of penthouse apartments and to make practical application of this analysis. The process of this study for plane-planning is as follows. Firstly, it is investigated and analyzed that external factors that have an effect on plane-planning such as locations and types of penthouse apartments. Secondly, an interior of penthouse apartments are divided into a private, public and outward area. And properties of each area through this research show the way of division and arrangement of plane. Thirdly, methods of connection between spaces is analyzed on the base of results of research for the way of partition. Finally, specific characters of penthouse apartments planning is derived from synthesis of research. In conclusion, analysis of plane-planning of penthouse apartments is summarized as follows. The majority of penthouse apartments is arranged to small portions of households and on higher stories in apartment which is situated around Han River or public parks. These external factors influence the plane-planning in both the interior and exterior way. For the exterior planning in space, it becomes important to design bays as many as possible in contact with outside in order to satisfy demands for fine prospects. It is also important to plan extra places naturally such as a terrace in order to provide virtual grounding. In the interior planning, a large size of interior induces to develop space for linking between each area, such as corridors or extra rooms. This makes it possible that the private area is linked to each other, at the same time it has its own distinctiveness according to its usage.
Many university campus facilities are recently remodeled to provide the substantial learning rights of handicapped students to embody the dignity and value as man by many campus authorities. This study aims to identify the interior public spaces between entrances and class rooms for handicapped students of S and D campuses. The summaries of this research are as follows. $\bullet$Since S campus was built long years ago before the related law for the handicapped person enacted, it was thought that the campus master plan to consider handicapped students' activations must be established and the campus educational facilities was remodelled by campus master plan. $\bullet$Since D campus was built lately after the related law for them enacted, it was thought that the officer who is responsible for campus facilities for handicapped students put in order it by repair plan every year. By remodelling every year steadily according to each campus master plan, all handicapped students must be guaranteed the same learning rights as normal men to remove obstacles as the upper mentioned imperfections in using exterior campus facilities.

So, the purpose of this study is to understand of the interior space of the Buddhist sanctum in Ancient and Medieval Times. Till now, it was impossible that the Buddhist monk or the General public entered the Buddhist sanctum in Ancient and Medieval Times because they regarded the Buddhist sanctum as the place of sacrosanctity and the floor was finished by bricks. But, we saw that they could enter the Buddhist sanctum. Of course the floor of the Buddhist sanctum was finished by bricks, but they spread mats on the floor, took off his shoes in the interior space and used the furniture for sitting on. The plan of the Buddhist sanctum was designed by the process of the ceremony and the way of the enshrinement of the Buddhist statues because it is the place to enshrine the Buddhist statues. This study aims to analyze the typological characteristics of Alvar Aalto's library design. The unique characteristics of Aalto's architecture are the result of accommodating Modern architecture with regional qualities of Finland. Besides this, Aalto's typological approach in design made his color. The library might be the best example for understanding his design approach in that he showed 3 main features of type; wholeness, self-control and transformation. He established architectural types in his 30s through Viipuri public library and developed so-called fan type library plan. Aalto's library type is not a simple copy of exterior and interior form. It acts as a principle of configuration of his library architecture and applied to the building. Therefore, Aalto's library architecture can be recognized as the results of typological design approach in that it shows the transformation of type in according to factors including site, size, region and cultural tradition. In conclusion, Aalto's libraries reveal the typological characteristics in the field of building layout, dynamic space and the effective use of light.
