Photoprotection effect of Pu'er tea and Curcuma longa L. extracts against UV and blue lights

  • Plant extracts have been studied due to their potential as photoprotective agents against UV and blue light exposure. Previous studies have revealed that several plant extracts have photoprotection capacities and synergistic effects with synthetic products. However, such results for pu'er tea and Curcuma longa L. have not been reported yet for a cosmetic formulation. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate photoprotection capacities of pu'er tea and C. longa L. extracts for a sunscreen compound. The pu'er tea extract improved sun protection factor value of 2-ethyl-hexyl methoxycinnamate (a synthetic sunscreen compound) by 46% and showed a high antioxidant capability that could help skin recover from photo-induced damage. C. longa L. extract also showed a potential to protect skin from blue light-induced damage because it not only had a maximum absorption peak at the blue light range, but also protected human fibroblasts from blue light-induced damage. The addition of both extracts shifted the critical wavelength of 2-ethyl-hexyl methoxycinnamate from 350 nm to 386 nm, giving it a broad-spectrum feature. Thus, pu'er tea and C. longa L. extracts may enhance the photoprotection ability of synthetic sunscreen products.

  • At present, aging-related degenerative muscle diseases are considered a serious problem. However, the drug effect on the treatment and prevention of sarcopenia has not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of extract of Pu'er tea as a remedy to alleviate the symptoms of sarcopenia. Pu'er tea extracts showed excellent radical scavenging ability. The expression of Myh3 was promoted and myotube formation also was increased by treatment of Pu'er tea extracts. These results suggest that Pu'er tea is a natural substance that promotes myogenesis, and is valuable as a material for pharmaceutical research on the prevention and treatment of various muscle diseases, including sarcopenia. And It is necessary to confirm specific indicator substances of puer tea and further study on this.

Quality Characteristics of White Pan Bread with Pu'er Tea (보이차를 이용한 식빵의 품질특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the quality characteristics of bread added with different levels of Pu'er tea. The overall effects of Pu'er tea on white pan bread were examined through mixograph, fermentation rates, TPA, volumes, crumbScan, color value, moisture content, and sensory evaluation. The result of the mixogram showed that all samples were found to be adequate between 3 and 5 minutes of peak time and their peak values were at 60%. Among the samples, PRaw15 had the highest fermentation rate, and it showed the lowest hardness in TPA. In addition, PRaw15 had the highest specific volume and moisture content. The results of the crumbScan showed that there were significant differences in crumb fineness, volume, and thickness between the samples. Color value also exhibited significant differences between the samples. The acceptance test showed that PRipe15 had the best overall acceptance. In conclusion, Pu'er tea affects the quality of dough and bread. Therefore, Pu'er tea could be added when bread is baked for improved health and better quality of the bread.

Effect of the Mechanochemical Pretreatment on Antioxidant Material Extraction from Pu'er Tea Leaf (Camellia sinensis var. assalnlca) (보이차잎 항산화 물질추출에 메카노케미스트리 전처리 효과분석)

  • 보이차의 주요산지는 중국 운남성이며 특히 란창강 유역이 그 중심지이다. 천연 사포닌과 미네랄류를 풍부하게 포함하고, 지방의 용해, 다이어트 효과, 소화 촉진, 정장 작용, 숙취 해소, 위가 더부룩할 증상 개선, 혈당치 상승 억제, 혈액 순환 촉진에 효과가 있는 것으로 알려져 있다.또한, 면역력 강화 효과와 노화예방, 암 예방효과도 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 보이차의 기능성 물질은 일반적으로 메탄올 또는 에탄올 용매에 의하여 추출한다. 용매에 의하여 추출하기 전에 메카노케미스트리 분쇄기술을 적용하여 전처리하면 재료의 표면적을 증가시키고 부분적으로 화학적 성분을 변화시켜 기능성 물질의 추출효율을 증가시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 메카노케미스트리 분쇄기술을 적용하여 보이차를 전처리한 다음 메탄올과 에탄올 용매에 의하여 기능성 물질을 추출하여 메카노케미스트리 전처리가 항산화 물질의 추출효율에 미친 효과를 분석하였다. 보이차는 메탄올과 에탄올 추출 전에 유성밀에 의하여 분쇄되었으며 분쇄 후의 형상을 SEM 현미경으로 분석하였다. 아질산성질소 소거능은 pH 1.2에서 메탄올 용매추출을 했을 때 전처리하지 않는 경우 63.0-83.0%로부터 메카노케미스트리 분쇄기술을 적용한 전처리를 한 경우에 74.0-92.0%로 증가하였다. 전자공여능은 DPPH(1,1-diphenyl-2-pycrylhydrazyl)를 이용한 방법으로 측정하였으며, 메탄올 용매추출의 경우에 13.12-49.29%로부터 메카노케미스트리 전처리 후에 15.12-64.29%로 증가하였다. DPPH radical 50% 소거능을 나타내는 $IC_{50}$은 전처리하지 않는 경우 164 ug/mL로부터 전처리한 경우에 151ug/mL로 감소하였다.
