임프란트 수술이나 발치 후 지각이상 환자에서의 약물치료 (Pharmacologic management for the patient with paresthesia after implant surgery or extraction)

  • The inferior alveolar nerve provides unilateral innervation to the dentition, labial mucosa and skin from about commissure to the mental protuberance. Injury to this nerve resulting in sensory impairment can be a distressing problem to some patients. The causes of this problem include trauma, extraction, implant surgery and any maxillofacial surgery and generally the altered sensation is temporary. The surgical procedure has been the most common treatment for this condition but it has some complications. The antidepressants and anticonvulsants have been effective to the treatment of trigeminal dysesthesia. This case report suggests that the use of antidepressants and anticonvulsants is an alternative method to treat the paresthesia after implant surgery or extraction.

First Report of Two Nematode-trapping Fungi, Monacrosporium ullum sp. nov. and Arthrobotrys amerospora, from Korea

  • Monacroporium ullum sp. nov. the captures nematodes on adhesive spherical knobs was isolated from soil around Codonopsis lanceolata at Ulleung island, Korea. The spindle-shaped conidia sized $17-44{\mu}m\;(26.5{\mu}m)\;long,\;7-10{\mu}m\;(8.1{\mu}m)$ wide, containing from 1 to 4 cross-walls but most often divided by 2 septa (47%). Resting bodies sized $57{\times}30{\mu}m$. Arthrobotrys amerospora has almost spherical non-septate conidia with a small truncate protuberance at the base and sized $20-27{\mu}m\;(23.3){\mu}m$ long and $11-17{\mu}m\;(14.1){\mu}m$ wide. Conidiophores are somewhat longer $362.8{\mu}m\;(311-418{\mu}m)$ than its original description ($75-250{\mu}m$).

Serially expanded flap use to treat large hairless scalp lesions

  • Hairless scalp areas can occur due to trauma, tumors, or congenital disease. This aesthetically unpleasing condition can lead to psychosocial distress, and thin skin flaps may be prone to scarring. Treating the hairless scalp by simple excision is challenging because of skin tension. Tissue expanders are a good option for hairless scalp resurfacing. However, a single expansion may be inadequate to cover the entire defect. This report describes good results obtained using a serial resurfacing method involving re-expansion of the flap with a tissue expander to treat two patients with large lesions: one due to aplasia cutis congenital and another who underwent dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance resection. The results suggest that scalp resurfacing by serial tissue expansion using a tissue expander can be used for extensive lesions.

Larval Development of Chthamalus challengeri Hoek (Cirripedia: Thoracica: Chthamalidae) with Keys to Barnacle Larvae of Korean Coastal Waters

  • Chthamalus challengeri Hoek was collected from intertidal rocks to rear the larvae from hatching through nauplius to cyprid in the laboratory. Larval development consists of six nauplius stages and a cyprid. Unilobed labrum with a prominent protuberance and the frontolateral horns folded under the anterior cephalic shield margin are diagnostic features through all nauplius stages. The posterior border of the cephalic shield bears no posterior shield spines in nauplius stages IV-Ⅵ. There is a specific hispid seta in the fourth group of the antennal endopodite. Morphological features such as the cephalic shield, labrum, abdominal process, antennules, antennae and mandibles in all nauplius and cyprid stages are illustrated and described. The numerical setations of the antennule are found to aid in the intraspecific identification of barnacle nauplius stages without dissection. The keys to each stage of the barnacle larvae in Korean coastal waters are provided based on the reared nauplii of seven species: Pollicipes mitella Octomeris sulcata, Chthamalus challengeri, Balanus albicostatus B. trigonus, B. amphitrite, and B. improvisus inhabiting Korean coastal waters.

도심 벽면녹화식물 능소화 (Campsis grandiflora K. Schum)의 화분 형태 및 세포독성에 근거한 유해성평가 (Hazard Assessment of Green-Wall Plant Campsis grandiflora K. Schum in Urban Areas based on Pollen Morphology and Cytotoxicity)

  • 본 연구는 능소화를 대상으로 화분형태 및 RAW264.7 대식세포에서의 세포생존에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 유해성 여부를 파악하고자 한다. 주사전자현미경을 이용한 화분 형태를 확인해 본 결과, 화분립 형태는 장구형이고 발아구의 형태는 3공구형이며 화분 표벽 (extine)은 망상의 형태이고 외부로 돌출된 돌기는 관찰되지 않았다. 능소화 70% MeOH 부위별 (꽃, 잎, 줄기) 추출물 및 화밀을 24, 48시간 동안 농도별 (10, 20, 50, $100{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$)로 RAW264.7 대식세포에 처리한 후 MTT assay로 측정하였다. 그 결과, 능소화 추출물 및 화밀을 농도별로 24시간 처리하였을 때 모든 농도에서 99.0% 이상의 세포생존율을 보여 세포독성은 나타나지 않았다. 48시간 처리하였을 때 꽃, 잎, 줄기 추출물은 $50{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$농도 이하에서 세포독성은 나타나지 않았으나, 화밀의 경우 저농도인 $10{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$부터 농도의존적으로 세포독성이 높아지는 것을 확인하였다.

II급 1류 부정교합 환자에서 Bionator의 적응증에 관한 연구 (AN EVALUATION ON THE INDICATIONS OF BIONATOR IN CLASS II DIVISION 1 MALOCCLUSION)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 bionator를 사용한 II급 1류 부정교합 환자의 치료후 결과를 토대로 치료전에 치료후 결과를 예측할 수 있는 항목들을 알아봄으로써 성장하는 II급 1류 부정교합을 가진 환자들의 치료에 도움을 얻는데 있다. bionator를 사용한 앵글 II급 1류 부정교합 환자 48명의 치료후 두부방사선계측사진을 통해 치료결과가 양호한 군(1군)과 치료결과가 불량한 군(2군)으로 나눈 후 양군의 치료전 측모두부방사선계측사진의 비교분석을 통해 두군 사이에 차이를 보이는 계측항목들을 알아보았고, 판별분석을 통해 다음의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 1. 치료전 골격계측 항목으로는 ANB, facial convexity angle, AB to facial plane angle 등이, 치성계측 항목으로는 L1 to A-Pog, U1 to facial plane, L1 to facial plane 등이, 연조직 계측항목으로는 Ricketts esthetic line 상에서 상, 하순의 돌출도가 양군 사이에 유의한 차를 보였다(SAS t-test, p<0.05). 2. 판별분석을 통해 유의성있게 나타나는 항목의 순위를 본 결과 L1 to facial plane, 하순의 돌출도, ANB과 FMIA 등이 양군의 치료결과의 예측에 도움을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 3. 증감판별분석을 통해 서로 독립적이며 상관계수가 높은 3개의 변수 - L1 to facial plane, articular angle, ANB- 를 선택하였으며, 이를 토대로 판별식을 도출하였다.

충돌 제트에 의해 형성되는 액막의 두께 특성에 관한 연구 (Interferometric Measurements of the Thickness Distribution of the Liquid Sheet Formed by Two Impinging Jets)

  • In this research, a study on the characteristics of the liquid sheet formed by two impinging jets is presented. Using the interference phenomena of light, the thickness of the liquid sheet, which seems to heavily affect the size of the droplets, is measured and compared with existing theoretical modelings. Thinner liquid sheet is produced with larger impinging angle, smaller orifice diameter, and higher azimuthal angle but the jet velocity doesn't affect the thickness. More viscous liquid produces thicker liquid sheet. The theoretical modelings predict the same trend as the experiments but the thickness values are overestimated at low azimuthal angles. This difference is gradually decreased as the azimuthal angle is increased: The breakup mechanism of the droplets from the liquid sheet is visualized by a high speed camera. The crest around the edge of the liquid sheet is protruded with the accumulation of liquid at the end of protuberance, which contracts into a spherical shape and then becomes detached when the stem breaks down, producing large droplets with a few small size of satellites.

First Record of Monstrilloid Copepods in Korea: Description of a New Species of the Genus Cymbasoma (Monstrilloida, Monstrillidae)

  • A new monstrilloid species belonging to the genus $Cymbasoma$ is described as a preliminary result from nocturnal surveys using a light trap on the east and south coasts of South Korea. Monstrilloid copepods are first recorded in South Korea. $Cymbasoma$ $striifrons$ n. sp. resembles $C.$ $striatum$ (Isaac, 1974) and $C.$ $tumorifrons$ Isaac, 1975 in sharing the character combination of transverse striations on forehead, somewhat small body (generally slightly less or longer than 1 mm), single lobed leg 5 bearing a short medial seta in female, and smooth lateral margin of anal somite without notch and wrinkles. However, $C.$ $striifrons$ n. sp. differs from $C.$ $striatum$ by relatively short and swollen cephalothorax, and rather strongly wrinkled genital somite. $Cymbasoma$ $striifrons$ n. sp. is also distinguished from $C.$ $tumorifrons$ in lacking a rounded protuberance on anterior margin of ventral surface and by relatively short cephalothorax and the number of ventral nipple-like processes on cephalothorax. Herein the new species is described and illustrated, with some comments on the morphological comparison with its allied species.

엇갈린 배열의 돌출물들이 존재하는 마이크로채널 내의 스톡스 유동 (STOKES FLOW THROUGH A MICROCHANNEL WITH PROTUBERANCES OF STAGGERED ARRANGEMENT)

  • In this study, the Stokes flow in the microchannel is analysed where the semicircular protuberances with constant spacing are attached on the upper and lower walls with staggered arrangement. For the low Reynolds number flow in microchannel, Stokes approximation is used and the periodicity and symmetry of the flow are considered to determine the stream function and pressure distribution in the flow field by using the method of least squared error. As results, the streamline patterns and pressure distributions in the flow field are shown for some specific values of the size and spacing of the protuberances, and shear stress distributions on the surface of semicircular protuberances are plotted. Especially, for an important physical property, the average pressure gradient along the microchannel is obtained and compared with that for the case of in-phase arrangement of the upper and lower protuberances. And, for the small clearance between the protuberances of upper and lower walls or between the protuberances and the opposite wall, the average pressure gradient is derived from the lubrication theory and compared with that of the present study.

한국산 해양 완보류의 분류학적 연구 I. Batillipes 속 (이완보 강: Batillipedidae 과) (Taxonomic Study of Marine Tardigrades from Korea I. Genus Batillipes (Heterotardigrada: Batillipediae))

  • 1995년 2월부터 1998년 11월까지 한국 해안의 조간대와 조하대의 모래틈이나 부식질틈에서 채집된 Batillipes 속 해양완보류를 조사한 결과, 29개 지점에서 출현한 8종을 동정.분류하였다. 이 가운데 1종(B. rotundiculus n. sp.)은 신종, 5종(B. pennaki Marcus, B. similis Schulz, B. tridentatus Pollock, B. crassipes Tchesunov and Mokievsky, B. philippinensis Chang and Rho)은 한국 미기록종이었다. 신종을 기재하였고, 5종의 한국 미기록종에 대하여는 삽화와 함께 간략히 고찰하였으며, 한국산 Batillipes 속에 대한 종검색표를 작성하였다.
