연료전지 전원 시스템의 설계 및 분석을 위한 PEMFC의 회로 모델 (A Circuit Model of PEMFC for Design and Analyze Fuel Cell Power System)

  • The Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) are being used in a variety of applications including portable power generation, transportation and back-up power systems. In this paper presents a novel circuit model for a PEMFC that can be used to design and analyze fuel-cell power system. The Pspice-based model uses BJTs, L and C elements available in the Pspice library with some modification. The model includes the phenomena like activation polarization, ohmic polarization and mass transport effect present in a PEM fuel cell. Simulated characteristics of the fuel cell were compared with the experimental results obtained on a commercial fuel cell.

Sulfonated-PEEK를 이용한 연료전지용 이온교환막의 제조 및 특성평가 (Preparation and Characterization of Ion-exchange Membrane Using sPEEK for Fuel Cell Application)

  • 기질 고분자인 sulfonated PEEK (sPEEK)와 가교제(cross-linking reagent) 4,4'-ethyldianiline (EdAn), 그래프트제(grafting reagent) 2-phenylethylamine (PEA)을 용매 dimethylacetamide (DMAc)에 녹여 용매증발법을 이용하여 제막하였다. 이민화 반응(imination)과 술폰화(sulfonation) 과정을 거쳐 최종 이온교환막인 cross-linked and grafted sPEEK (CG-sPEEK)막을 제조하였다. FT-IR 분석을 통해 술폰화 및 이민화 반응여부를 확인할 수 있었다. Proton conductivity와 water uptake, volume change를 측정하여 상용화된 Nafion115와 비교함으로써 이온교환막으로서의 활용가능성을 평가하였다. 제조된 CG-sPEEK막의 proton conductivity (0.17 S/cm) 값이 Nafion115 (0.10 S/cm) 보다 우수하게 나타나 이온교환막으로서의 적용가능성을 보여주었다. 다만 높은 water uptake (130%)는 CG-sPEEK의 치수안정성을 위해서 저감시킬 필요가 있다.

  • Fabrication of MEA is important factor for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). MEA of PEMFC with hot pressing and direct coating method were prepared, and performances were evaluated and compared each other. The effect of MEA preparation methods, hot pressing methods and direct coating methods, on the cell performance was analyzed by impedance spectroscopy and SEM. The performance of PEMFC with direct coating method was better than with hot pressing method because membrane internal resistance and membrane-interfacial resistance were reduced by elimination of hot pressing process in MEA fabrication. In addition the micro structure of MEA with direct coating method reveals uniform interface between membrane and catalyst layer.

고분자전해질 연료전지용 바이폴라 플레이트의 표면형상과 전기적 특성 (Surface Morphology and Electrical Property of PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) Bipolar Plates)

  • The multi-films of a metallic film and a transparent conducting oxide (TCO, indium-tin oxide, ITO) film were formed on the stainless steel 316 and 304 plates by a sputtering method and an E-beam method and then the external metallic region of the stainless steel bipolar plates was converted into the metal nitride films through an annealing process. The multi-film formed on the stainless steel bipolar plates showed the XRD patterns of the typical indium-tin oxide, the metallic phase and the metal substrate and the external nitride film. The XRD pattern of the thin film on the bipolar plates modified showed two metal nitride phases of CrN and $Cr_2N$ compound. Surface microstructural morphology of the multi-film deposited bipolar plates was observed by AFM and FE-SEM. The metal nitride film formed on the stainless steel bipolar plates represented a microstructural morphology of fine columnar grains with 10 nm diameter and 60nm length in FE-SEM images. The electrical resistivity of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified was evaluated.

  • 연료전지는 소음이 낮고$CO_2$ 배출이 없는 친환경적 특성을 기반으로 항공기 추진시스템에 적용되고 있으며, 현재 연료전지를 탑재한 여러 종류의 무인항공기와 소형 유인항공기 개발이 진행되고 있다. 항공기용 연료전지는 대표적으로 PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell)방식과 SOFC(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) 방식으로 분류되며, 항공기의 임무 및 운용조건에 적합한 연료전지 시스템이 개발되고 있다. 무인항공기의 경우 대부분 PEM 연료전지 기술을 기반으로 군용 또는 상용으로 활용할 수 있는 다양한 형태와 크기의 항공기가 개발되고 있으며, 시스템의 안정성과 운용시간이 더욱 향상될 것이다. 소형 유인항공기에서는 추진시스템을 연료전지로 대체하기 위한 많은 연구가 수행되고 있으며, 또한 대형 상용 항공기의 보조동력장치(APU)에 연료전지를 적용하여 성능을 높이기 위한 개발이 진행되고 있다. 향후, 연료전지항공기는 연료전지의 전력밀도 증가와 더불어 신뢰성과 효율을 더욱 향상시킬 것으로 기대된다.

차량용 PEMFC 동적 모델을 이용한 시스템 부하 응답 특성 (System Response of Automotive PEMFC with Dynamic Modeling under Load Change)

  • The stringent emission regulation and future shortage of fossil fuel motivate the research of alternative powertrain. In this study, a system of proton exchange membrane fuel cell has been modeled to analyze the performance of the fuel cell system for automotive application. The model is composed of the fuel cell stack, air compressor, humidifier, and intercooler, and hydrogen supply which are implemented by using the Matlab/Simulink(R). Fuel cell stack model is empirical model but the water transport model is included so that the system performance can be predicted over various humidity conditions. On the other hand, the model of air compressor is composed of motor, static air compressor, and some manifolds so that the motor dynamics and manifold dynamics can be investigated. Since the model is concentrated on the strategic operation of compressor to reduce the power consumption, other balance of components (BOP) are modeled to be static components. Since the air compressor model is empirical model which is based on curve fitting of experiments, the stack model is validated with the commercial software and the experiments. The dynamics of air compressor is investigated over unit change of system load. The results shows that the power consumption of air compressor is about 12% to 25% of stack gross power and dynamic response should be reduced to optimize the system operation.

600 W급 연료전지(PEMFC)의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Development of 600 W Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell)

  • The design of a fuel cells stack is important to get optimal output power. This study focuses on the evaluation of fuel cell system for unmaned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Low temperature proton exchange membrane (LTPEM) fuel cells are the most promising energy source for the robot applications because of their unique advantages such as high energy density, cold startup, and quick response during operation. In this paper, a 600 W open cathode LTPEM fuel cell was tested to evaluate the performance and to determine optimal operating conditions. The open cathode design reduces the overall size of the system to meet the requirement for robotic application. The cruise power requirement of 600 W was supported entirely by the fuel cell while the additional power requirements during takeoff was extended using a battery. A peak of power of 900 W is possible for 10 mins with a lithium polymer (LiPo) battery. The system was evaluated under various load cycles as well as start-stop cycles. The system response from no load to full load meets the robot platform requirement. The total weigh of the stack was 2 kg, while the overall system, including the fuel processing system and battery, was 4 kg.

  • 고분자전해질 연료전지에서 전해질막의 이온전도도에 미치는 상대습도, 전류밀도, 온도의 영향에 대해 연구하였다. 전해질막의 물의 함량과 물의 이동은 이온전도도에 많은 영향을 미친다. 전기삼투와 역확산만으로 물 이동을 모사하고 해석하였다. 이온전도도는 셀 밖에서 측정 장비로 막 상태에서 그리고 막전극합체로 구동상에서 측정되었다. 상대습도 증가에 따라 막 내 물 함량이 증가하였고 물 함량 증가에 따라 이온전도도도 상승하였다. 전류밀도 증가에 따라 전기삼투와 역확산에 의한 물의 양이 증가해 물 함량이 선형적으로 증가하였고 그 결과 전류밀도 증가에 따라 이온전도도가 선형적으로 상승하였다. 온도가 $50^{\circ}C$에서 $80^{\circ}C$C로 증가함에 따라 이온전도도는 약 40% 증가하였다.

  • PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) is considered as an attractive option to produce electric power in manyapplications. A fundamental step of theoretical fuel cell open circuit potential is examined and compared with the measured data from 1.2KW PEMFC module. The hydrogen pressure and stack temperature are also measured during the operation of PEMFC module. It is found that the stack voltage and current data agree in general with the results calculated by chemical potential approach though they still have a discrepancy. It is analysed that the discrepancy is due to activation polarization, concentration overvoltage and ohmic overvoltage.

전산해석을 통한 고분자 전해질 연료전지 내 입구 가습조건의 영향에 관한 연구 (Numerical Study for the Effect of Inlet Humidity Condition at PEMFC Channel)

  • PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) is a low temperature fuel cell and has many probabilities of commercial use. However, water management is one of the serious technical problems for commercialization. It is necessary to understand the relationship between operation conditions and water behavior in PEMFC channel because it affects fuel cell performance. In this paper, the distribution of current density according to inlet humidity condition is mainly observed and discussed. If the anode inlet is well humidified, electro-osmotic drag is very active. For this reason, current density is very high at inlet side and the distribution is non-uniform.
