In this paper, we analyzed the performance of EY-NPMA(Elimination Yield-Non-preemptive Priority Multiple Access) protocol-channel access control protocol of HIPERLAN(HIgh PErformance Radio Local Area Network) type 1 specification, adopted as european high speed wireless LAN standard by ETSI(European Telecommunication Standards Institute). We established a system model for EY-NPMA protocol analysis, analyzed success probability in a channel access cycle, and derived expressions for the average length of contention phase. Using a M/G/1 model, we approximated the normalized delay, and throughput, and we evaluated these results by simulations.

MAC frame aggregation is a method that combines multiple MPDUs (MAC protocol data units) into one PPDU (PHY protocol data units) to enhance network performance at the MAC layer. In ad hoc networks, TCP underperforms due to the congestion window overshooting problem and thus by setting CWL (congestion window limit) TCP performance can be improved. In this paper, we investigate the problem of setting CWL for TCP performance optimization in ad hoc networks with MAC frame aggregation.

In this paper, we investigate power allocation scheme and outage performance for a physical-layer network coding (PNC) relay based secondary user (SU) communication in cognitive multi-antenna relay networks (CMRNs), in which two secondary transceivers exchange their information via a multi-antenna relay using PNC protocol. We propose an optimal energy-efficient power allocation (OE-PA) scheme to minimize total energy consumption per bit under the sum rate constraint and interference power threshold (IPT) constraints. A closed-form solution for optimal allocation of transmit power among the SU nodes, as well as the outage probability of the cognitive relay system, are then derived analytically and confirmed by numerical results. Numerical simulations demonstrate the PNC protocol has superiority in energy efficiency performance over conventional direct transmission protocol and Four-Time-Slot (4TS) Decode-and-Forward (DF) relay protocol, and the proposed system has the optimal outage performance when the relay is located at the center of two secondary transceivers.

In this paper, we propose a method for applying random linear network coding in satellite communication to improve reliability. In the proposed protocol, network-coded redundancy (NC-R) packets are transmitted in the PEP (Performance Enhancement Proxy). Therefore, if data packets is lost by wireless channel error, they can be recovered by NC-R packets. We also develop the TCP performance model of the proposed protocol and evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. In the simulation results, It is shown that the proposed protocol can improve the TCP throughput as compared with that of the conventional TCP because the NC-R packets is sent by the sender-side PEP and the receiver-side PEP use these packets to recover the lost packets, resulting in reducing the packet loss in TCP.

Neighbor Discovery (ND) protocol was proposed to discover neighboring hosts and routers in IPv6 wire/wireless local networks. ND protocol, however, has a problem that it is vulnerable to network attacks because ND protocol allows malicious users to impersonate other legitimate hosts or routers by forging ND protocol messages. To address the security problem, Secure Neighbor Discovery (SEND) protocol was proposed. SEND protocol provides address ownership proof mechanism, ND protocol message protection mechanism, reply attack prevention mechanism, and router authentication mechanism to protect ND protocol. In this paper, we design and implement SEND protocol in IPv6 local networks. And also, we evaluate and analyze the security vulnerability and performance of SEND protocol by experimenting the implemented SEND protocol on IPv6 networks.
Picture Archiving and Communication Systems(PACS) provide an integration of digital imaging information in a hospital, which encompasses various imaging equipment, viewing workstations, database archive systems, and a high speed fiber optic network. One of the most important requirements for integration is the standardization of communication protocols to connect devices from different vendors. Since 1985, the ACR-NEMA standard provides a hardware interface, a set of software commands, and a consistent set of data formats for point-to-point interconnection of medical equipment. However, it has been shown to be inadequate for PACS networking environments, because of its point-to-point nature and its inflexibility to allow other services and protocols in the future. Based on previous experience of PACS developments in The University of Arizona, a new communication protocol for PACS networks has been suggested to the ACR-NEMA Working Group VI. The defined PACS protocol is intended to facilitate the development of PACS's capable of interfacing with other hospital information systems. Also, it is intended to allow the creation of diagnostic information data bases which can be interrogated by a variety of distributed devices. A particularly important goal is to support communications in a multivendor environment. The new protocol specifications are defined primarily as a combination of the International Organization for Standardization / Open Systems Interconnection (ISO/OSI) protocols and the data format portion of ACR-NEMA standard. This paper addresses the specification and implementation of the proposed PACS protocol into network node. The protocol specification, which covers Presentation, Session, Transport, and Network layers, is summarized briefly. The implementation has natural extentions to Global PACS environments. The protocol implementation is discussed based on our implementation efforts in the UNIX Operating System Environment. At the same time, results of performance evaluation are presented to demonstrate the implementation of defined protocol. The testing of performance analysis is performed on the PACS prototype node.
In this paper, a media access control protocol is proposed for voice/data integrated services in the packet CDMA network, and the performance of the proposed protocol is analyzed. The proposed protocol uses the spreading code sensing and the reservation schemes. This protocol gives higher priority to the delay-sensitive voice traffic than to the data traffic. A voice terminal can reserve an available spreading code during a talkspurt to transmit multiple voice packets. On the other hand, whenever a data packet is generated, the data terminal transmits the packet through one of the available spreading codes that are not used by the voice terminals. In this protocol, the voice packets do not come into collision with the data packets. The numerical results show that this protocol can increase the maximum number of voice terminals. The performance for the data traffic degrades by increasing the voice traffic load because of the low priority. But it shows that the data traffic performance can be increased in proportion to the number of spreading codes.
The IEEE 802.11 wireless standard uses the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) as its MAC protocol (during the distributed coordination function period). This protocol is an adaptation of the CSMA/CD of the wired networks. CSMA/CA mechanism cannot guarantee quality of service (QoS) required by the application because orits random access method. In this study, we propose a new MAC protocol that considers different types of traffic (e.g., voice and data) and for each traffic type different priority levels are assigned. To improve the QoS of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols over a multi-channel CSMA/CA, we have developed a new admission policy for both voice and data traffics. This protocol can be performed in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) or frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). For voice traffic we reserve a channel, while for data traffic the access is random using a CSMA/CA mechanism, and in this case a selective reject and push-out mechanism is added to meet the quality of service required by data traffic. To study the performance of the proposed protocol and to show the benefits of our design, a mathematical model is built based on Markov chains. The system could be represented by a Markov chain which is difficult to solve as the state-space is too large. This is due to the resource management and user mobility. Thus, we propose to build an aggregated Markov chain with a smaller state-space that allows performance measures to be computed easily. We have used stochastic comparisons of Markov chains to prove that the proposed access protocol (with selective reject and push-out mechanisms) gives less loss rates of high priority connections (data and voices) than the traditional one (without admission policy and selective reject and push-out mechanisms). We give numerical results to confirm mathematical proofs.

In this paper, we have compared the performance of a D-TDMA protocol with that of a CDMA protocol, in radio access system for integrated voice/data services. The D-TDMA protocol is based on a generic dynamic channel assignment approach to be followed a combination of “circuit mode” reservation for voice calls, along with dynamic first-come-first served assignment of remaining capacity for data messages. In the CDMA protocol, we have used the voice activity detection to reduce the interface power of other mobiles in internal and external cells, and analyzed the interference power ratio. Also we have computed BER(Bit Error Rate) by using this interference power ratio and evaluated voice blocking probability(voice packet loss probability) and data transmission delay, according to average data length and average data arrival rate.We have found the CDMA protocol achieves comparatively higher performance for short data length, regardless of data arrival rate. Otherwise, the data transmission delay of D-TDMA protocol is shorter than that of the CDMA protocol for long data message.
