A zinc mesh sacrificial anode cathodic protection method is recently being developed to protect the reinforced concrete structure in a marine environment. However, comprehensive information regarding the cathodic protection technology applied to reinforced concrete test specimens utilizing zinc mesh sacrificial anodes remains limited. Particularly, no research has investigated the effective range of sacrificial anode cathodic protection in a reinforced concrete structure regarding the transmission of protection current from zinc mesh sacrificial anode to the reinforced concrete structure, particularly concerning effects of temperature variations. This study examined the distribution of potential and current using a long single rebar and several segment reinforcing bars inside a horizontal beam. Vertical pile specimens were applied with a zinc mesh sacrificial anode to simulate concrete bridges or harbor structures. To check the effect of cathodic protection, cathodic protection potential and current of the reinforced concrete specimens were measured and 100 mV depolarization criterion test was performed. It was confirmed that effect of cathodic protection varied depending on resistivity and temperature. The cathodic protection test of pile specimens revealed that the maximum reachable range of cathodic protection current was 10 cm from the waterline as observed in the experiment.
There are two effective methods in use to protect ship ballast tank against corrosion. One is paint coating and the other cathodic protection(CP). The conventional cathodic protection design has mainly relied on the expert's experience. During the last two decades computer modeling has been significantly developed as an advanced design technology for cathoidic protection systems not only for ships, but also for offshore structures. However the present computer modeling of cathodic protection systems have some limitations simulating corrosion in the ballast tank with a deteriorated coating. In this study, "coating breakdown factor" considering coating degradation states with time has been attempted to improve the cathodic protection modeling using the data from literatures.

The main function of a reactor protection system is to maintain the reactor core integrity and the reactor coolant system pressure boundary. Generally, the reactor protection system adopts the 2-out-of-m redundant architecture to assure a reliable operation. This paper describes the safety assessment of a digital reactor protection system using the fault tree analysis technique. The fault tree technique can be expressed in terms of combinations of the basic event failures such as the random hardware failures, common cause failures, operator errors, and the fault tolerance mechanisms implemented in the reactor protection system. In this paper, a prediction method of the hardware failure rate is suggested for a digital reactor protection system, and applied to the reactor protection system being developed in Korea to identify design weak points from a safety point of view.

Neutron dose assessment in criticality accidents using Whole Body Counter (WBC) was proved to be an effective method as rapid neutron dose estimation at the JCO criticality accident in Tokai-mura. The 1.36MeV gamma-ray of $^{24}Na$ in a body can be detected easily by a germanium detector. The Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) of $^{24}Na$ is approximately 50Bq for 10miniute measurement by the germanium-type whole body counter at JNC Tokai Works. Neutron energy spectra at the typical shielding conditions in criticality accidents were calculated and the conversion factor, whole body activity-to-organ mass weighted neutron absorbed dose, corresponding to each condition were determined. The conversion factor for uncollied fission spectrum is 7.7 $[(Bq^{24}Na/g^{23}Na)/mGy]$.
This paper proposes a coordinative protection study results of 22.9kV HTS(High-Temperature Superconducting) cable implemented distribution system. HTS cable can provide about 5 times larger transfer capacability compare to conventional XLPE cable, however, it has different heat characteristic so called quench. This paper presents the simulation results on Ichun substation HTS cable which connects main transformer and 22.9kV bus. Various expected fault cases are considered and discussed to examine whether conventional protection scheme is effective to protect both of existing facilities and HTS cable. With the results of simulation, conventional protection scheme can be used if instantaneous element and time inverse elements could be adjusted with proper time coordination. Internal temperatures of HTS cable conductor in safe region with proper protection without quench. This results are to be demonstrated by the field test and will be implemented in Ichon substation HTS cable protection and control system.
A railway rail will be corroded by the repetitive sea wind and fog in the splash and tidal zone such as Youngjong grand bridge. And these rusts of rail could be increased by increasing service period, and it frequently occurred the safety accidents or disorders in electrical problem. In this study, the sacrificial anode cathodic protection method was proposed as a measures for reducing the corrosion of the railway rails in the oceanic climate conditions. As the results of immersion test using the salt water during four months, the sacrificial anode cathodic protection method using the aluminum anode(Al-anode) was evaluated that a distinct effect on corrosion reduction in the rails. Therefore the sacrificial anode cathodic protection method was experimentally proven that a disorders in aspects electric and signal of railway operation condition such as direct fixation track system in Youngjong grand bridge could be prevented by reducing rust falling from the rail. In addition, the installation conditions of the anodes directly affect the transmission range of corrosion potential, the sectional loss of anode, and the corrosion reduction effect. Therefore, to expect the corrosion reduction effect of rails under the oceanic climate conditions for railway track, it was important to adopted the appropriate spacing of anode installation by considering the actual field conditions.
The frequency of lightning is increased due to improbable weather condition and global wanning. This phenomenon increases economical damage as well as human damage. Advanced countries like europe and north america have applied the facility standard of lightning by accumulating a store of quantitative data about lightning research. Lightning facility is composed of the lightning accepting part for induction lightning, ground connected electrode which conducts lightning current. The lightning accepting part is composed of normal rod, horizontal conductor, ESE lightning rod. Moreover, lightning accepting part is taken to use by the method of protection. This paper suggests HEC(Hybrid ESE-Conductor) method which mixes horizontal conductor and ESE lightning rod. This is also discovered by experiment that the starting point of corona discharge current is low, so it is efficient for lightning protection comparing with other methods. Moreover, distribution of electric field is analyzed qualitatively by finite element method. It also results in the relation of the starting point of corona discharge current. Corona discharge current makes minute current about some ${\mu}A$ between the electrodes by the strength of electric field. Also it occurs insulation destruction of gas, and it is developed to the shape of streamer by increase of the strength of electric field. We can find that the initial occurrence of streamer and contact probability of lightning can have advantage after researching the starting point of corona discharge current and discharge current of lightning striking point. This research demonstrates that the suggested HEC method is economically competitive as a lightning protection facility, and it takes a capably perfect role.
In this paper we proposed backward fuzzy Petri-net to diagnoses faults in power systems by using the time sequence information of protection system. As the complexity of power systems increases, especially in the case of multiple faults or incorrect operation of protective devices, fault diagnosis requires new and systematic methods to the reasoning process, which improves both its accuracy and its efficiency. The fuzzy Petri-net models of protection system are composed of the operating process of protective devices and the fault diagnosis process. Fault diagnosis model, which makes use of the nature of fuzzy Petri-net, is developed to overcome the drawbacks of methods that depend on operator knowledge. The proposed method can reduce processing time and increase accuracy when compared with the traditional methods. And also this method covers online processing of real-time data from SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)
In paper, We evaluated for various diode type ESD protection device using TLP measurement method. An Evaluation diode is divided to Enclosed type and Stripe type as pattern style in extensive. These diodes is split up followed factor that Anode-to-Cathod space, N+ region width, Multi type and Contact to Active space. After a TLP measurement, we can be got the Vt2, It2 by I-V characteristic values. In the results, diode of enclosed type is present relatively higher Current capability(It2) than stripe type in a same voltage conditions. And the Second-breakdown voltage(Vt2) were that Stripe type's diode higher than Enclosed type's diode as have $14{\sim}15V$. Finally we suggest the best diode design condition as ESD protection device using entire consequence.
This paper presents the protection effect of SPDs according to installation conditions. To develop the effective protection countermeasures of information and communication equipments against lightning surges, actual-sized experiments in relation to the protection effects on the installation positions of surge protective devices(SPDs), the length of branch circuit the materials and long of conduit were conducted. The best method for protecting the electronic equipments from surges is to install the SPD at the front point of the devices to be protected. The installation method of the metal conduit bonded with common ground conductor were more effective than that of the PVC conduit.
