The fishing boat propulsion system employing the modified stern shape and the tunnel to protect a propeller is developed to increase the cruise speed and reduce he problem resulting from the open propeller accidentally catching the waste net and able on the sea. Using 3 different tunnel types, the model test was performed in the circular water channel and the panel method based on the potential theory is applied to analyze the open water performance of the propeller. In the numerical analysis using he potential-based panel method, it calculates the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the tunnel and evaluates the effect of the tunnel geometry. From the numerical and experimental results differing tunnel geometries, the propulsion efficiency is increased by the larger diameter of the inlet than the outlet of the tunnel and the smaller gap between the propeller tip and the tunnel internal surface. These results provide the information of the propeller system with the tunnel and the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the tunnel.

This paper presents the design considerations and field applications on inflatable structure system to protect rapidly flooding damages in large section tunnel. This inflatable structure system is very valuably used to protect passively and rapidly the possibilities of tunnel damages by flooding threats and unusual leakage to be occurred during and after underground infrastructure. In particular, this system should be necessary in subsea tunnel. The predominant factors in the design of inflatable structure system are the leakage and friction characteristics between the inflater and tunnel liner. The analytical and experimental studies are performed to develop the design considerations and to examine the design parameters of the inflatable structure system. The analytical solutions are developed using membrane theory to suggest the design considerations. The relative friction tests of several fabric materials are also carried out to determine the friction characteristics according to the different friction conditions between inflater and tunnel surface. The test results show that the friction coefficients in wet surface condition are about 20% lower than the values in dry surface condition. In addition, virtual design of tunnel protection system for two virtual subsea tunnel sites which is under reviewing in Korea, is carried out based on this research. It is expected that the results of this research will be very useful to understand the inflater structure design and development the technology of tunnel protection structures in the future.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of various propeller tunnel shapes on the propulsion performance of a fishing boat. The propeller tunnel reduces the problem resulting from the open propeller accidentally catching the waste net and cable on the sea, as well as increasing the cruising speed. For 3 different tunnel geometries, the model test is conducted in the circular water channel, and the potential based panel method was applied to analyze the hydrodynamic characteristics of propeller. Also, both results are compared with each other to represent the difference between results of the model scale test and the potential theory. It is expected that these results could be referenced in the design of the propeller tunnel in consideration of the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the tunnel.
The Tunnel Broker is to provide dedicated servers and to automatically manage tunnel requests coming from the users. This approach is useful to stimulate the growth of IPv6 interconnected hosts and to provide easy access to their IPv6 networks. However, the existing tunnel broker is vulnerable to attacks of malicious users about network resources and services. Therefore, to solve the secure problem of tunnel broker, this paper presents secure IPv6 tunnel broker based on TSP(Tunnel Setup Protocol). The clients and the tunnel broker are communicated based on SHTTP(Secure HTTP) and the XML message of plain text is converted to XML signature by encryption and decryption. finally, Clients and tunnel server use the IPsec method to protect the important information.

In this paper, the behaviors of tunnel damaged by fire, the diagnostic techniques for evaluating tunnel stability are presented. Also two fireproof construction methods are recommended. Three tunnels damaged by fire were analyzed to evaluate the structural stability. From the these analyzed, it is recommended that surface checking, rebound number of concrete by Schmidt Hammer, and carbonation of concrete are essential to evaluate the engineering properties of concrete in tunnel structure damaged by fire. On the basis of case studies of tunnel fire collected by ITA, the change of concrete and steel strengths by fire are explained, and numerical analysis, which was performed on culvert and circle tunnel, shows that distribution of temperature in the tunnel is dependant upon tunnel shape. Two fireproof construction methods using panel and punching metal are introduced to protect the tunnel by fire.

The performance of water spray system installed to reduce risks of tunnel fire is investigated by a real tunnel fire test. In case of A class fire, Pool fire, and car fire, the nozzle of water spray has had a marvelous effect to reduce the temperature of hot smoke. And it is verified to have remarkable cooling effects when there is the air flow in a tunnel. Though this results, water spray system will be able to prevent a fire jump to decrease the air temperature in a tunnel and to protect tunnel facilities by the fire control.

Tunnel portals are often located in areas where the risk of rock fall and/or detachement of rock fragments from rocky slopes is high. In this case it is necessary to design the portals so as to protect the road (i.e. using an artificial tunnel) or to instal structures that are able to intercept falling blocks on the slope. This paper deals with the design problems of these structures and includes a special analysis of net fences which have undergone a remarkable technological improvement over recent years.

This paper presents the study of leakage effect due to multi-cell inflater of rapid protection system to protect the possibilities of tunnel damages by flooding threats and unusual leakage to be occurred during and after subsea tunnel construction. Particularly, this protect system should be necessary in subsea tunnel. This research concentrates the physical model tests due to several multi-cell inflater to study protection capacity of leakage between the inflater and tunnel liner. A 27:1 small scale model are used in the model tests. The leakage rate, water pressure and axial displacement of inflater are measured during the model tests. According to the results, the minium leakage rate clearly shows in the case of two-cell inflater compared with in other cases. It is concluded that the results of this research will be very useful to understand the fundamental information of inflater structure design and development the technology of tunnel protection structures in the future.

This paper is focused on the determination of friction parameter which is a predominant factor in the design of inflatable structure system. This inflatable structure system is very valuably used to protect passively and rapidly the possibilities of tunnel damages by flooding threats and unusual leakage to be occurred during and after underground infrastructure construction. In particular, this system should be necessary in subsea tunnel. This study presents the experimental results obtained from the relative friction characteristics tests of the fabric materials that constitute the inflatable structure. In order to evaluate the relative friction behaviour of the inflatable structure system, friction tests and scaled model tunnel friction tests are carried out. The friction tests are carried out to determine the friction coefficient for different surface conditions between tunnel and inflatable structure. These friction coefficients are then evaluated and compared with the result obtained from the model tunnel friction tests. Interaction behaviours between tunnel and system are also reviewed and described in this study. The results clearly show that the friction coefficients derived from scaled model slippage tests are about 12% lower than values obtained from the friction tests. In addition, this study will be necessary to verify the real friction behaviour with prototype tests before applying in practice.

This study investigates the design criteria required for wind barriers to protect vehicles running on an expressway under a high side wind. At the first stage of this study, the lateral deviations of vehicles in crosswinds were computed from the commercial software, CarSim and TruckSim, and the critical wind speeds for a car accident were then evaluated from a predefined car accident index. The critical wind speeds for driving stability were found to be 35 m/s for a small passenger car, yet 30 m/s for a truck and a bus. From the wind tunnel tests, the minimum height of a wind barrier required to reduce the wind speed by 50% was found to be 12.5% of the road width. In the case of parallel bridges, the placement of two edge wind barriers plus one wind barrier at center was recommended for a separation distance larger than 20 m (four lanes) and 10 m (six lanes) respectively, otherwise two wind barriers were recommended.
