Since most human activities in a nuclear power plant are perfirmed in the main control room (MCR), it is important to have its design well human-engineered, both physically and cognitively. Much research efforts have been given for better, operator-centered designs of human-machine interface in MCR capitalizing today's advanced information technology. Korea is among those who are actively expending such research for the next-generation nuclear plants. This paper analyzes two forerunners among the emerging MCR designs, namely Nuplex 80+ and N4, from the perspective of cognitive systems engineering. Since the two show some fundamental differences in their design concepts, the principles with their pros and cons must be enumerated to benefit our own design of new control rooms. This paper also lists many other decision-making points that emerged due to the new availability of cognitively based on cognitive engineering principles. The future scope and directions of related research are suggested.

Traditional Manufacturing method is push system by plan made in advance and Japanese manufacturing method represented by JUST-IN-TIME is pull system which respond's to the demand flexibly. Both have their pros and cons. In general, it is well understood that push system is faster than pull system in the sense of manufacturing speed. However, pull system such as JIT excelles dramatically in the sense of work in process. Therefore, this paper is trying to put together to get alternative which has the advantage of both system. The objective of the paper is to enhance the effect of built-in manufacturing system without paying extra cost by way of introducing the alternative of the pull-push manufacturing strategic operational method.

Information and information services are recently recognized as a commodity and libraries and information centers are also considered as a company. Under this circumstance, libraries and information centers encounter the problems how they can effectively achieve the objectives of service institutions and objectives of resource management as companies. Pricing policy for information services must be something to satisfy these two very different objectives. This paper discusses the following issues to develop pricing model for information services, 1) the needs of pricing for information services, 2) the major elements impacting to pricing of information services including the objectives of pricing, cost and demand of information services, and information value, 3) the pros and cons of pricing method using concepts of average cost, price differentiation, and marginal cost, respectively.

This study intends to make a comprehensive inquiry about the theoretical foundations of cataloging outsourcing. To the end, this study examined (1) backgrounds of cataloging outsourcing, 2) the pros and cons of cataloging outsourcing, (3) theoretical justification suggested by guardians of cataloging outsourcing, and (4) methodological limitations found in literatures on the subject. On the basis of it, finally suggested are methodologies for evaluating 'effectiveness' of cataloging outsourcing.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the trend and performances of contracting out the management of public libraries in Korea, in order to help promote the effectiveness and efficiencies of their operations. In this research, Investigated in detail are the following issues: First, the need for and background of contracting out public library services and their present state in Korea; Second, the pros and cons of contracting out public library services; and finally, based on the aforementioned findings, a future model of 'contracting out' public library services is proposed in order to further the effective management of public libraries in Korea.

The Rotterdam Rules, which was adopted in December 2008 by UNCITRAL, has underlying intention that it will provide uniform law for the international carriage of goods by sea and modernize transport law reflecting modern transport custom. However, it is also true that there are various conflicting views on the Rotterdam Rules. This article tried to analyze main controversial issues such as scope of application, basis of liability of the shipper and the carrier, exception th the volume contract, legal position of the freight forwarder, delivery of the goods from the both sides of view. The Rotterdam Rules exposes some problems in applying and interpreting the Rules as many people indicated. These problems, I think, mainly due to the extended scope of application and broader range of issues. However, I do not think that the Rotterdam Rules will serious affect to the international transport industry. Furthermore, it is unreasonable to expect perfect Rules satisfying every interests.

Global optimization is a method for finding more reliable models in various fields, such as financial engineering, pattern recognition, process optimization. In this study, we compare and analyze the performance of the state-of-the-art global optimization techniques, which include Genetic Algorithm (DE,SCGA), Simulated Annealing (ASA, DSSA, SAHPS), Tabu & Direct Search (DTS, DIRECT), Deterministic (MCS, SNOBIT), and Trust-Region algorithm. The test functions for the experiments are Benchmark problems in Hedar & Fukushima (2004), which are evaluated with respect to efficiency and accuracy. Through the experiment, we analyse the computational complexity of the methods and finally discuss the pros and cons of them.

In the current Internet environment, there may exist a number of independently-operating authentication systems even within a single organization, according to the service types and service providing entities. Current silo-style isolated authentication system model has revealed critical problems in the aspects of usability, cost-effectiveness, extensibility and flexibility, and privacy protection. Recently, several next generation authentication systems have been actively developed by leading industrial and standardization institutions. This paper firstly analyzes the problems of current Internet authentication system environments. And then, the underlying idea, operating procedures, and pros and cons of the newly developed next generation authentication systems are analyzed so as to provide the selection guidelines for the new authentication systems and drive further development directions for future Internet authentication systems.

Dietary supplements are generally defined as concentrated sources of nutrients prescribed in addition to the daily diet to increase nutrient intake. These supplements are usually in the form of tablets, capsules, pills, powders, or liquids. Sales of dietary supplements are roughly $4 billion per year in the United States. Nearly 4 out of every 10 adults use dietary supplements regularly. This article is to report the pros and cons in the use of dietary supplements and a brief overview of current law, proposed regulations, and related activities in the United States. It provides what information should be known to the public before federal regulations governing health claims are made . These regulations may decide whether health food industries or pharmaceutical companies can make claims about the function of nutrients.
