In this study, in order to develop an non-slip metal grating, the stability of the grating according to the span of the grating and the gap and height of the bearing bar was evaluated. The optimal shape design of the grating was performed using the results of determining the stability of the grating. The purpose of this study is to determine the stability according to the spacing and height of the bearing bar by applying the design pressure at the design stage to develop the anti-skid grating, and to design the optimal shape for cost reduction. In the optimal design, the target variable was set as the mass, and the optimal design of the grating was performed based on about 20%. Regardless of the height of the bearing bar of the grating, the stress and deformation of the span and the grating showed a proportional tendency to each other, and it was found that the stress decreased as the height of the bearing bar increased. Based on the structural analysis results, an optimal design was performed using mass as the objective variable, and the existing 2mm thickness was changed to 1.6mm, reducing the mass by about 19%. The stress increased by about 4.4% compared to the maximum stress of the existing grating, but the minimum safety factor was 3.1, indicating that the optimally designed grating was stable.

The purpose of this study is to help an improvement of conceptional learning about the properties of gas based on molecular kinetics for secondary school students and to help an improvement of teaching method for reducing misconceptions regarding the molecular kinetics in gas phase for teachers. The subjects of this study were l00 students of 9th grade and 150 students of 11th grade students. The results showed that students had various misconceptions about the properties of gas. The major misconceptions are as follows. First, the energy is released due to the collision of the molecules, and also the direction of action of pressure is related to the direction of gravity. Second, as molecule is heated, the size of molecule is increased, and the molecule is more active because the number of moIecules is increased. Third, the pressure is reduced because of decreasing the temperature at the higher altitude and the pressure of gas molecuIes is inversely proportional to the collision number of gas molecules. Forth, the numbers of molecules of two different molecules in two same containers differ because the size of molecules differ each other. The results suggest that these problems ought to be addressed in chemistry textbooks and in the classroom teaching of chemistry. If teachers are more aware of students' misconceptions they wilI be better able to remove them.

This paper investigates the corrosion inhibition and the reduction of hydration heat properties of Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag (GGBFS) added concrete. Since the massive civil structure is vulnerable to the thermal crack by hydration. adiabatic temperature rising tests were performed for water-binder ratios from 43.2% to 47.3%, while replacing 15% to 50% of cement with GGBFS of equal weight. Then, the corrosion protection performance was evaluated using cylindrical specimens embedded with steel reinforcement according to the combination of 3 W/B ratios and 2 levels of chloride ion quantity. The corrosion area of the embedded steel ban was determined using the high pressure steam curing method specified in KS F 2561. The test results showed that the replacement of GGBFS was effective in reducing the hydration heat. The corrosion area of the embedded steel ban decreased as the replacement of GGBFS increased. However, the corrosion area of the steel bar was proportional to the autoclave cycle and the chloride ion quantity. Among the tested specimens, compressive strength, reduction of hydration heat, and corrosion inhibition performance were excellent when 50% of cement was replaced with GGBFS of equal weight.

In this paper, the wave forces on a cylindrical aquaculture fish cage, which consists of the porous mesh with the uniform porosity, are analyzed using matched eigenfunction expansion method. The boundary condition on the porous net is derived based on the Darcy's law, which implies that the velocity of the fluid passing through the net is linearly proportional to the pressure difference between two sides of the net. The wave forces and wave responses are investigated by changing the porous parameter of porous net as well as the submerged position (floating type, bottom-mounted type) of an aquaculture fish cage. It is found that the wave forces on a bottom-mounted type are largely decreased compared with that on a floating type. Also, the porosity of the netting structure plays an important role in reducing the wave forces and the wave elevation in the vicinity of an aquaculture fish cage.
Purpose: This study examined the effects of a program designed to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) on VAP rate and endotracheal colonization. The program focused on aspiration prevention and oral care. Methods: A nonequivalent control group post-test only design was utilized. One hundred patients admitted to a medical intensive care unit (MICU) or coronary care unit (CCU) were assigned to either a experimental group (n=50) or a control group (n=50). The participants were selected 48 hours following an endotracheal intubation. VAP prevention program given to the experimental group includes keeping the head of the bed to $30^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$ high, maintaining continuous endotracheal cuff pressure at 25 cm $H_2O$, performing endotracheal suction before change position, and providing oral care with 0.1% chlorhexidine every four hours. The control group received usual care. Data were analyzed using t-test, $x^2$ test, Mantel-Haenszel $x^2$ and Cox proportional harzard regression model. Results: The experimental group showed a lower VAP rate than the control group although the difference was not statistically significant ($x^2=0.79$, p=.375). The experimental group showed lower colonization in tracheal secretion than the control group ($x^2=14.59$, p<.001). Conclusion: Results showed that a VAP prevention program is effective in reducing colonization of tracheal secretion. Therefore, VAP prevention programs are recommended as an ICU nursing intervention.

Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization has decided to reinforce the NOx emission standards for ships passing an ECA(Emission Control Area) with Tier III standards from January 1, 2016. In this study, real-time measurements of the exhaust gas, cylinder pressure and fuel consumption were conducted at each load of a T/S Hanbada main engine of Korea Maritime and Ocean University, which is controlled by single injection and double post injection for reducing NOx emissions. The results showed that the quantity of CO2 and NOx increased in proportion to the engine load, whereas the CO concentration was inversely proportional to the engine load. In addition, double post injection decreased 10 % of P-max and reduced 25~30 % of the NOx emissions compared to single injection, whereas there was a trade-off relation, such as increase 3~5 % of SFOC (Specific Fuel Oil Consumption).
In analyzing the operational characteristics of a rice whitening machine, the internal radial pressure of the machine was measured using strain gage equipment. Changes in cylinder and feed screw configurations, screen type, cylinder speed and counter-pressure levels were examined to determine their impact on the quality and quantity of milled rice and the performance of the machine. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The internal radial pressure in the whitening chamber varied with the surface condition of the grain being processed. During the first or second pass through the machine, pressure was relatively low, reached a maximum after two to three passes with combinations I and II, three to six with combination III and then began to fall. 2. The pitch of the feed screw and the size of the feed gate opening which determine the rate of entry of grain into the whitening chamber, appeared to be the most important factor aff-::cting the degree of radial pressure, quality and quantity of milled rice and the efficiency of the machine. Using a feed screw with a wide pitch (4.8cm), radial pressure was relatively high and head rice recovery ratio \vere quite low. In this case capacity and machine effic?iency were much higher than obtained when using a feed screw with a narrow pitch (2.3cm). Very significant responses in radial pressure, head rice recovery rates and machine capacity were observed with changes in cylinder speed and counter-pressure levels when using the wide pitch feed screw. 3. The characteristics of the screen which surrounds the whitening chamber had an important effect on whitening efficiency. The existence of small protuberances on the original screen resulted in significant increases in both machine capacity and efficiency but without a significant decrease in head rice recovery or development of excessive radial pressure. Further work is required to determine the effects of screen surface conditions and the shape of the cylinderical steel roller on the rate of bran removal, machine efficiency and recovery rates. The size of the slotted perforations 0:1 the screen affects total milled rice recovery. The opening size on the original screen was fabricated to accommodate the round shape of Japonica rice varieties but was not suitable for the more slender Indica type. Milling Indica varieties with this screen resulted in a reduction in total milled rice recovery. 4. An increase in cylinder speed from 380 to 820 rpm produced a positive effect on head rice recovery for all machine combinations at every level of counter-pressure used in the tests. Head rice recovery was considerably lower at 380rpm using a wide screw pitch when compared to the results obtained at speeds from 600 to 820 r.p.m. The effects of cylinder speed On radial pressure, capacity and machine efficiency showed contrasting results, depending on the width of the feed screw pitch. With a narrow feed screw pitch (2.3cm), a direct proportional relationship was observed bet?ween cylinder speed and both radial pressure and machine efficiency. In contrast, using a 4.8 centimeter pitch feed roller produced a series of inverse relationships between the above variables. Based on the results of this study it is recommended when milling Indica type long grain rice varieties that the cylinder speed of the original machine be increased from 500-600 rmp up to a minimum of 800 rpm to obtain a greater abrasive effect between the grain and the screen. The pitch of the feed screw should be also reduced to decr?ease the level of internal radial pressure and to obtain higher machine efficiency and increased quality of milled rice with increased cylinder speeds. Further study on the interaction between cylinder speed and feed screw pitch is recommended. 5. An increase in the counter pressure level produced a negative effect On the head rice recovery with an increase in radial pressure, capacity, and machine efficiency over all combinations and at every level of cylinder speed. 6. Head rice recovery rates were conditioned primarily by the pressure inside the whitening chamber. According to the empirical cha racteristics curve developed in this study, the relationships of head rice recovery ($Y_h$) and machine capacity ($Y_c$/TEX>) to internal radial pressure ($X_p$) followed an inverse quadratic function and a linear function respectively: $$Y_h^\Delta=\frac{1}{{1.4383-0.2951X_p^\ast+0.1425X_p^{\ast\ast}}^2} , (R^2=0.98)$$$$Y_c^\Delta=-305.83+374.37X_p^{\ast\ast}, (R^2=0.88)$$The correlation between capacity and power consumption per unit of brown rice expressed in the following exponential function: $$Y_c^\Delta=1.63Y_c^{-0.7786^\{\ast\ast}, (R^2=0.94)$$These relationships indicate that when radial pressure increases above a certain range (1. 6 to 2.0 kg/$cm^2$ based On the results of the experiment) head ricerecovery decrea?ses in a quadratic relation with a inear increase in capacity but without any decrease in power consump tion per unit of brown rice. During the operation of a given whitening machine, the optimum radial pressure range or the correct capacity range should be selected by controlling the feed rate and/or counter-pressure keeping in mind the condition of the grain, particulary the hardness. It was observed that the total number of passes is related to radial pessure level, feed rate and counter-pressure level. The higher theradial pressure the fewer num?ber of pass required but with decreased head rice recovery. In particular, when using high feed rates, the total number of passes should be increased to more than three by reducing the counter-pressure level to avoid decreaseases in head rice recovery (less than 65 percent head rice recovery on the basis of brown rice) at every cylinder speed. 7. A rapid rise in grain temperature seemed to have a close relationship with the pressure generated inside the whitening chamber and, subsequently with head rice reco?very rates. The higher the rate of increase, the lower were the resulting head rice recoveries.
