The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has emerged as a key component in HVDC systems due to its ability to efficiently transmit large amounts of power over long distances. In such systems, accurate estimation of the MMC capacitor voltage is of utmost importance for ensuring optimal system performance, stability, and reliability. Traditional methods for voltage estimation may face limitations in accuracy and robustness, prompting the need for innovative approaches. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed neural network observer specifically designed for MMC capacitor voltage estimation. Our observer harnesses the power of a multi-layer neural network architecture, which enables the observer to learn and adapt to the complex dynamics of the MMC system. By utilizing a distributed approach, we deploy multiple observers, each with its own set of neural network layers, to collectively estimate the capacitor voltage. This distributed configuration enhances the accuracy and robustness of the voltage estimation process. A crucial aspect of our observer's performance lies in the meticulous initialization of random weights within the neural network. This initialization process ensures that the observer starts with a solid foundation for efficient learning and accurate voltage estimation. The observer iteratively updates its weights based on the observed voltage and current values, continuously improving its estimation accuracy over time. The validity of proposed algorithm is verified by the result of estimated voltage at each observer in capacitor of MMC.

Herein, different extracts of Scenedesmus deserticola JD052, a green microalga, were evaluated in vitro as a potential anti-aging bioagent. Although post-treatment of microalgal culture with either UV irradiation or high light illumination did not lead to a substantial difference in the effectiveness of microalgal extracts as a potential anti-UV agent, the results indicated the presence of a highly potent compound in ethyl acetate extract with more than 20% increase in the cellular viability of normal human dermal fibroblasts (nHDFs) compared with the negative control amended with DMSO. The subsequent fractionation of the ethyl acetate extract led to two bioactive fractions with high anti-UV property; one of the fractions was further separated down to a single compound. While electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analysis identified this single compound as loliolide, its identification has been rarely reported in microalgae previously, prompting thorough systematic investigations into this novel compound for the nascent microalgal industry.
Pressure to reduce costs in the current solar market is driving the development and implementation of new module designs and prompting the use of new materials and components. In order to utilize the variability of each material that makes up the module, it is essential to understand the basic characteristics of the material. In this article, we evaluate light degradation after UV irradiation as an encapsulation material. Measure and analyze the results of various characteristic tests for discoloration, optical and electrical property degradation before and after UV accelerated testing. To evaluate weathering stability, UV tests were performed comparing existing EVA and UVT-EVA, POE and improved low-cost POE. Even in the weather resistance test with a total UV exposure of 60 kW/m2, the properties of the encapsulants were mostly stable. EVA and POE-based encapsulants showed slight differences, and these slight differences are believed to pose a threat to long-term stability. This study is a basic analysis of encapsulation research for PV modules and will be helpful in understanding future development and encapsulant properties.
Purpose: As social interest in environmental issues increases, pro-environmental initiatives are becoming more active in many industry sectors. This study explores how a firm's perceived green brand image affects consumer loyalty through brand trust and attachment. Research design, data, and methodology: The data of 363 respondents aged 20 to 59 who purchased the franchise lunchbox in the last three months were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and SmartPLS 4.0. Result: Green brand image affects consumer loyalty through cognitive trust, affective trust, and brand attachment. Regarding serial mediations, cognitive trust affects brand attachment only through affective trust and, in turn, consumer loyalty. Conclusions: This study employs the hierarchy of effects theory to explore the role of the perceived green image of the franchise lunchbox brand in prompting consumer loyalty through brand trust and attachment. The eco-friendly initiatives are imperative in establishing a green brand image, given their critical roles in generating consumer brand trust and attachment as well as consumer loyalty in the franchise lunchbox industry. The franchise lunchbox firms should implement environmental initiatives and effectively communicate and actively inform these initiatives to raise perceptions of green brand image and build cognitive brand trust.
Purpose: The study attempts to explore the operational performance of the existing Malaysian logistics companies and the extent of their adoption of digitalization. The role of digitalization in enhancing the performance of companies in the logistics industry in Malaysia, for value creation, is the topic of study. Research design, data and methodology: A qualitative research method with a semi-structured interview approach was applied and judgmental sampling was used as the sampling technique to collect data. The research has chosen nine companies in the logistics industry in Peninsular Malaysia, with the interviews aimed at eleven members of top and middle-level management. Data analysis was performed using logical system techniques to examine and evaluate data, reorganizing feedback, comparing it with literature, and transforming it into structured, valuable information after interviews. Results: The study revealed mixed opinions on digitalization in logistics, despite its potential benefits such as improved operational efficiency, real-time information, and customer service. However, high costs may hinder financial performance and require revisions due to stakeholder involvement. Conclusions: The Malaysian logistics industry's adoption of digitalization is gaining traction, with most companies satisfied with their status. However, challenges like cost and inefficiency persist, prompting calls for government support to improve efficiency and reduce costs while ensuring sustainable transportation.
This study introduced a direct contact heat exchanger to enhance the efficiency of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) systems. According to previous research, 28% of the operating costs of fuel cell systems are attributed to heat exchanger devices, prompting the design of a direct contact heat exchanger to address this issue. Optimal configurations were determined through computational fluid dynamics analysis and experimental device fabrication, and the enhanced heat exchange performance of the heat exchanger was experimentally confirmed. Through this, the contribution of the direct contact heat exchanger to the heat management and efficiency enhancement of PEMFC systems was established.
Vessels can operate with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) turned off, prompting the development of strategies to identify them. Among these, utilizing satellites to collect radio frequency (RF) data in the absence of AIS has emerged as the most effective and practical approach. The purpose of this study is to develop a matching algorithm for RF with AIS data and find the RF's applicability to classify a suspected ship. Thus, a matching procedure utilizing three RF datasets and AIS data was employed to identify ships in the Yellow Sea and the Korea Strait. The matching procedure was conducted based on the proximity to AIS points, ensuring accuracy through various distance-based sections, including 2 km, 3 km, and 6 km from the AIS-based estimated points. Within the RF coverage, the matching results from the first RF dataset and AIS data identified a total of 798 ships, with an overall matching rate of 78%. In the cases of the second and third RF datasets, 803 and 825 ships were matched, resulting in an overall matching rate of 84.3% and 74.5%, respectively. The observed results were partially influenced by differences in RF and AIS coverage. Within the overlapped region of RF and AIS data, the matching rate ranged from 80.2% to 98.7%, with an average of 89.3%, with no duplicate matches to the same ship.
As the trend towards miniaturization in semiconductor integration process, the limitations of interconnection metals such as copper, tungsten have become apparent, prompting research into the emergence of new materials like cobalt and emphasizing the importance of studying the corresponding process conditions. During the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process, corrosion inhibitors are added to the slurry, forming passivation layers on the cobalt surface, thereby playing a crucial role in controlling the dissolution rate of the metal surface, enhancing both removal rate and selectivity. This review investigates the understanding of the cobalt polishing process and examines the characteristics and behavior of corrosion inhibitors, a type of slurry additive, on the cobalt surface. Among the corrosion inhibitors examined, benzotriazole (BTA), 1,2,4-triazole (TAZ), and potassium oleate (PO) all improved surface characteristics through their interaction with cobalt. These findings provide important guidelines for selecting corrosion inhibitors to optimize CMP processes for cobalt-based semiconductor materials. Future research should explore combinations of various corrosion inhibitors and the development of new compounds to further enhance the efficiency of semiconductor processes.
The Ti-6Al-4V alloy is widely used as an implant material due to its higher fatigue strength and strengthto-weight ratio compared to pure titanium, excellent corrosion resistance, and bone-like properties that promote osseointegration. For rapid osseointegration, the adhesion between the titanium surface and cellular biomolecules is crucial because adhesion, morphology, function, and proliferation are influenced by surface characteristics. Polymeric peptides and similar coating technologies have limited effectiveness, prompting a demand for alternative materials. There is growing interest in 2D nanomaterials, such as MoS2, for good corrosion resistance and antibacterial, and bioactive properties. However, to coat MoS2 thin films onto titanium, typically a low-temperature hydrothermal synthesis method is required, resulting in the synthesis of films with a toxic 1T@2H crystalline structure. In this study, through high-temperature annealing, we transformed them into a non-toxic 2H structure. The implant coating technique proposed in this study has good corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, and antibacterial properties.
