  • PLCs are special purpose microcontrollers used in most automatic control systems such as plants, embedded systems, and intelligent buildings. LD is one of the most popular languages among PLC languages. For now LD programs are mainly verified by simulation and testing which has a lot of limitation. This paper describes how to translate a given LD program into an input of a model checker so that LD program is verified by model checking. We define formal semantics of LD programs and SMV models and specify a formal definition of the translation function which preserves semantics between LD programs and SMV models.

  • We investigate the evolutionary properties of red supergiant stars (RSGs), using stellar evolution model of Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA). In this study, we calculate models with mass range of 9-39M_sun and several different convection parameters (e.g. mixing length, overshooting, and semiconvection) at SMC, LMC, Milky Way, and M31 metallicities. We compare the calculated evolutionary tracks with observed RSGs in SMC, LMC, Milky Way and M31, and discuss appropriate input physical parameters in model calculation. We find that a larger mixing length parameter is necessary for M31 metallicity to fit the positions of RSGs in H-R diagram, compared to lower metallicity environments. Theoretically predicted numbers of yellow supergiant stars (YSGs) are also compared with the observed population. We find that Ledoux models with semiconvection can better explain the number of YSGs. Finally, we investigate the final radius, final star mass, and final hydrogen envelope mass of RSGs and discussed the their properties as type II-P supernova progenitors.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study to develop new deep-brain stimulation system for long-term use in animals, in order to develop a variety of neural prostheses. Methods : Our system has two distinguished features, which are the fully implanted system having wearable wireless power transfer and ability to change the parameter of stimulus parameter. It is useful for obtaining a variety of data from a long-term experiment. Results : To validate our system, we performed pre-clinical test in Parkinson's disease-rat models for 4 weeks. Through the in vivo test, we observed the possibility of not only long-term implantation and stability, but also free movement of animals. We confirmed that the electrical stimulation neither caused any side effect nor damaged the electrodes. Conclusion : We proved possibility of our system to conduct the long-term pre-clinical test in variety of parameter, which is available for development of neural prostheses.

  • A performance analysis program has been developed for the gas generator cycle liquid rocket engine. This program predicts the system performance with the performances of subsystems which are evaluated by the models based on another analyses or experiments. The analysis method has been validated by comparing the engine performance against the published conceptual design. The performance models of the subsystems have been verified to give reasonable results by comparing with the MC-1 engine design and the system analysis of 10 ton thrust engine. The system performance of the 30 ton thrust rocket engine using LOx/Jet-A1 has been presented as an application example.

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) structures require advanced analysis techniques for better estimation of their seismic responses, especially in the case of exhibiting complex three-dimensional coupling of torsional and flexural behaviors. This study focuses on validating a numerical approach for evaluating the seismic response of a three-dimensional unsymmetrical RC structure through the participation in the SMART 2013 international benchmark program. The benchmark program provides material properties, detailed drawings of the RC structure, and input ground motions for the seismic response evaluation. In this study, nonlinear constitutive models of concrete and rebar were formed and local tests were conducted to verify the constitutive models in finite element analysis. Elastic calibration of the finite element model of the SMART 2013 RC structure was performed by comparing numerical and experimental results in modal and linear time history analyses. Using the calibrated model, nonlinear earthquake analysis and seismic fragility analysis were performed to estimate the behavior and vulnerability of the RC structure with various ground motions.

  • Regression models were obtained on the base of the correlation between Phytophthora blight incidence in red pepper and the microclimate data obtained from automated weather station (AWS) during 1997 and 1998. A computer program (PEPBLIGHT) was constructed based on the model that the R2 value is highest among regression models. This computer program uses the microclimate data from more than one AWS through the common dialogue box easy and it is able provide disease forecasting information. In addition, it could be applied far other diseases and converts the microclimate data of AWS to the input data for Statical Analysis System (SAS). PEPBLIGHT was first developed for the forecasting computer system of red pepper blight in Korea. PEPBLIGHT is operated on the MS Windows, so that it is easy to use.

  • Ensuring robust 3D object detection is a core challenge for autonomous driving systems operating in urban environments. To tackle this issue, various 3D representation, including point cloud, voxels, and pillars, have been widely adopted, making use of LiDAR, Camera, and Radar sensors. These representations improved 3D object detection performance, but real-world urban scenarios with unexpected situations can still lead to numerous false positives, posing a challenge for robust 3D models. This paper presents a post-processing algorithm that dynamically adjusts object detection thresholds based on the distance from the ego-vehicle. While conventional perception algorithms typically employ a single threshold in post-processing, 3D models perform well in detecting nearby objects but may exhibit suboptimal performance for distant ones. The proposed algorithm tackles this issue by employing adaptive thresholds based on the distance from the ego-vehicle, minimizing false negatives and reducing false positives in the 3D model. The results show performance enhancements in the 3D model across a range of scenarios, encompassing not only typical urban road conditions but also scenarios involving adverse weather conditions.

  • The objective of this paper is to study how to apply the functional models in the design reviews and the validation of the subsequent design specifications and standards in the urban rail transit standardization program. The functional models can be obtained based on the requirements. Specifically, the requirements are first represented by the use case and sequence diagrams and then the results are transformed into the functional models using the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) diagrams and the FFBD (Functional Flow Block Diagram) and others. Based on the results of the study, it can be checked whether the original requirements have been reflected properly in the designs. Also, it can be seen that how the possible changes in the requirements affect the functions and thus how the designs should be changed accordingly.
