  • As the economy has picked up in recent years, so have the changes in the food industry. Due to trends in the family structure, two income households are becoming more common, including the in-crease of the female working population. Leisure activities and time continue to increase and to cause changes in the food industry which makes many kinds of food available to everyone, compared to previous times when people ate simply to live. This trend can be easily seen by considering the year to year increase of expenses for eating out. As life as become more and more complicated and full of variety, the trend towards a consumer oriented food industry has accelerated and is becoming a major element of Korean life. In the past, quantity of food was the most important aspect of the food preparation. Today, the dining experience includes social and cultural meanings which emphasizes customar oriented menus and services. In the restaurant business, successful management must consider the interests of both employees and custmers and must be run efficiently and probide good service.

Case Studies of Preservice Teachers' Conceptual Ecologies

  • This qualitative study investigated two preservice teachers' conceptual ecologies in professional development during the science teacher preparation program. The notion of a conceptual ecology contains nature of knowledge, science and science teaching, learning, and content knowledge and comfort level. The data were collected during the participants' preservice year and their practicum experience. Both data collections and analyzing were from the various sources of interviews, teaching observations, journals, and information and profiles by the participants' supervisor. Two preservice teachers serve as cases representative of this study. Results show that problems preventing the preservice teachers from moving closer to conceptual change teaching were their understandings of the nature of science and the nature of knowledge. The preservice teachers' views about knowledge come from, and what knowledge is, are largely shaped by the nature of science and learning drive pedagogy and classroom practice. Knowledge of and comfort with the subject matter are also important.

  • This research is studied for investigative purposes of preparation status for healthcare telematics service enforcement via making an analysis of understanding & expectation effect about healthcare telematics introduction. The study is investigated with two groups, professional medical persons (doctors, nurses, pharmacists) and medical demanders (customers), to analyze the recognition difference between two groups. Questions are carried in face to face interviews by using structured questionnaire & Delphi technique. The survey result shows medical demander's expectation level is higher than the other's at all items such as social changes, medical service provider, medical service users, national and government agencies, medical system suppliers.

Comparison of foodservice management performance level between dietitians and non-dietitians in senior centers using IPA

  • This study investigated the management importance and performance level of foodservice managers at senior centers. Using the survey, perceived importance and performance levels of seven foodservice management areas were evaluated and analyzed. Data showed the foodservice facilities were being managed by dietitians (61.6%) or non-dietitians (38.9%). The result indicated that overall importance level (3.43) was higher than performance level (3.02) (p<.01). As of the IPA result, dietitians and non-dietitians had different perspectives in terms of managing the eight categories of foodservice areas. The differences in the IPA results between the two groups may reflect bias attributable to the respondents' degrees of knowledge and professional preparation. The research findings could enhance our understanding of importance of hiring professional dietitians to operate foodservice at senior centers and find out which management area should be concentrated for more effective foodservice management.

Acute Oral Toxicity Study on BDR-29 in Rats (랫트에서 한약재 복합물 BDR-29의 단회 경구투여 독성에 관한 연구)

  • Acute toxicity of BDR-29, a combined preparation of Cassia Semen, Prunellae Spica, Tribuli Fructus, and Uncariae Rhamulus et Uncus was examined using male and female Sprague-Dawley rats. Rats were treated with the BDR-29 intra-gastrically at 0 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg or 2,000 mg/kg and observed for two weeks. At the doses used no mortality or abnormal clinical signs in animals were shown during at the observation period. Also there was no difference in net body weight gain, gross pathological findings, and urine analysis at the terminal sacrifice among the groups rats treated with different doses of the test substance. The results suggested that acute oral toxicity of BDR-29 in rats is very low at the conditions employed in this study.

  • Since the national health insurance was introduced in 1978, the increased utilization of hospitals and the growing importance of pharmaceutical services to hospital patients have made the administration of these services a very complex and specialized responsibility. The pharmaceutical services has always been an essential component of comtemporary hospital care. In the hospital, the pharmaceutical services is the professional department which concerns itself with the evaluation, selection, control and utilization of drugs. The director of this service must be a versatile professional person who can work effectively in a heterogenous society of educated persons. However, graduate education in hospital pharmacy has not been introduced yet in Korea. The necessity of graduate education hospital pharmacy has been discussed in this research. Graduate education in hospital pharmacy emphasizes preparation for assumption of responsibility as the senior hospital pharmacist or the director of pharmaceutical services. Graduates should also be prepared as administrators of a department that must operate with great efficiency. They should be prepared serve as a consultant on drugs for the medical and allied health professional staff, organizing and disseminating a large and dynamic body of information in their interest and to establish professional roles that emphasize procurement, storage, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, control and evaluation of drugs. Senior hospital pharmacist is a teacher charged with responsibility fer formal and informal instruction of other hospital personnel in pharmaceutical sciences. In addition, the graduates have the opportunity to be a researcher dealing with aspect of hospital care and are intensively educated in the professional aspects of hospital pharmacy practices. The curriculum of graduate education in hospital pharmacy should be established detailly and carefully to fit the educational objective.

Development of Bachelor Nursing Programme (일 대학 간호학과 교육 과정 개발 연구)

  • The educational preparation of nurses has been the focus of considerable debate globally. It is needed the change of the basic nursing education for professional nurse to prepare the trends of the health care needs of clients for coming new generation. And also it is believed that educational preparation for being nurses is to be responsible to clients' needs. The purpose of the study was to develop a baccalaureate program in nursing. This study were implemented through three stages from April 2001, to April 2002.: preparation stage which were consisted of reviewing of the literatures, interviewing the fellow nurses in a variety workplace, and consulting professors who were concerned with the nursing education to identify the present educational problems, and analyzing the contents of seven major courses in nursing education, evaluation stage about a new developed curriculum with the directors of the five nursing schools, and confirmation stage of new developed education programme. The developed education programme was designed as a four year program with 126 credit hours including 39 credit hours of liberal arts, 34 credit hours of supplementary courses, and 53 credit hours of nursing major based on the four basic nursing dimensions of human, health, environment and nursing. Nursing majors were consisted of Nursing Ⅰ(oxygenation), Nursing Ⅱ(nutrition elimination), Nursing Ⅲ(activity rest), Nursing Ⅳ(neurologic- endocrine protection), Nursing Ⅴ(fluids electrolytes/sex reproductive), Nursing Ⅵ(psycho-social), Community Health Nursing, Fundamental Nursing, School Health, and Emergency care. This new nursing programme was focused on the nursing education for prevention and rehabilitation nursing care as well as the acute and chronic nursing care at hospital, on the integrated nursing programme to become effective, and the nursing process to encourage the critical thinking. The new education programme focused on the professional nurses who are responsible the nursing ethics, communication skills, and professional beliefs to suit the future trends in health. And also it will be needed for faculties to manage the integrated curriculum, to analyze the contents of each subject, and to communicate with each other before a new education programme apply to their education programme in future. What is Learning in the Mathematics Classroom?

  • What is learning in the math classroom? Does a new term need to be coined for learning? Is the term over-used and it has lost it meaning? The responses of one hundred five teacher-candidates and graduate students were coded using the five levels researcher designed rubric which was modeled after Bloom's Taxonomy for depth of knowledge. The effects of understanding learning include the preparation of lesson plans, classroom instruction, the guiding of student learning, and the professional development of teacher leaders.

A Convergence Study on the Cultural Adaptation Stress and Self-Efficacy on Career Preparation Behavior of Foreign Students (외국인 유학생의 문화적응스트레스 및 자기효능감, 진로준비행동에 관한 융복합 연구)

  • In this study, we examined whether cultural stress, self-efficacy, and career-preparation behavior differed depending on the general characteristics of foreign students, and whether cultural adaptation stress and self-efficacy affect career-preparation behavior. To this end, a survey of 231 foreign students was conducted and data was analyzed using the IBM SPSS v23 statistics program. According to the study, cultural adaptation stress and self-efficacy differed depending on the general characteristics of foreign students. And cultural adaptation stress and self-efficacy have been shown to affect career-preparation behavior. Therefore, it was suggested that the government needs to develop curriculums, comparisons and programs for foreign students to help them exchange culture and adapt their studies, and that it is necessary to have professional counseling staff residing in universities to conduct career and academic counseling.

Comparison of Professional Self-Concept, Clinical Nursing Competence, and Practicum Satisfaction between Nursing Students with and without Pediatric Nursing Clinical Preceptorship (아동간호 임상프리셉터십 경험 유무에 따른 간호학생의 전문직 자아개념과 임상수행능력 자신감, 실습 만족도 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare professional self-concept, clinical nursing competence, and practicum satisfaction between nursing students with and without pediatric nursing clinical preceptorship. Methods: This study used a comparative research design. A total of 85 junior nursing students participated in the study, and data from 76 students were analyzed using SPSS WIN 20.0. Among them, 44 students experienced pediatric nursing clinical preceptorship. Results: The students with clinical preceptorship showed a significantly higher score in nursing skill related items of professional self-concept and the confidence in knowledge of injection preparation and administration compared to the counterpart students. Practicum satisfaction was also significantly higher in the students with clinical preceptorship than in the other students. There were significant positive correlations among professional self-concept, performance confidence, and practicum satisfaction. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that clinical preceptorship is an effective educational method to teach clinical practicum of pediatric nursing. The use of clinical preceptorship needs to be considered to motivate nursing students actively involved into the clinical practicum. The roles of clinical preceptors should be clearly identified in clinical education.
