A CASE STUDY: HOW TO ADDRESS THE CRITICAL ISSUE OF EMPLOYABILITY FOR CONSTRUCTION PROFESSION STUDENTS

  • Employability is a critical issue in construction education. Employability is more than students obtaining employment upon graduation. The concept is far more ranging, and should encompass enabling students to acquire the knowledge, personal and professional skills and encouraging attitudes that will support their future development and employment. This paper describes two case studies relating to how the true concept of employability can be incorporated into the construction higher education curriculum. Case study 1 was a collaborative venture with contributions from a higher education provider, employers, students and a professional body (Association of Building Engineers). It outlines the whole process from course inception through to graduation and feedback. Thus it presents a valid model for other higher education providers of construction courses to adapt or adopt. Case study 2 outlines how the opportunity of a degree programme revalidation process was utilized to introduce modules which would enhance students' employability on graduation.

  • A new law, the Urban and Living Environment Improvement Act, was established, promulgated, and entered into by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation as of 1st July 2003. This system under this law, which improves currently executed consulting process and upgrade its level, is to execute the legal process and procedures that are necessarily required for housing reconstruction/renewal project.. This system requires to be supplemented with addition of reasonable, logical, and systemized tools of system. Through concurrent application of professional management of renewal business(PMRB), more benefit will be provided to housing renewal associations that are constituted with residences concerned for execution of CM project.

  • After the construction participants system is abolished, expectations are high for its consequences such as liquidating paper-companies, holding back low price contracts, and improving multi-stepwise subcontract structure. However, the professional construction firms have been took responsibilities and obligations as businessmen employing the chief workmen and construction workers. For this reason, it is expected that they will be charged a great deal of expenses such as increase in labor management services and laborers, the occurrence of an retirement grants, insurance fees, etc. Since the hold on power of field managers are getting weaker toward the construction workers, it is most likely to have loss in efficiency of production in the long term. Therefore purpose of this research is to analyze difficulties and the point at issues with which professional construction firms are undergoing after abolishing the construction participants system by investigating on the actual condition in the field management. For this research, we got a grip on the actual condition and analyzed the rise of a primary factor on reinforced concrete construction.

  • BIM technology has been introduced in various fields of the construction industry recently. The owners of the public construction projects are already interested in BIM technology and they started to apply BIM technology in their projects. This paper introduces the successful BIM cases of overseas and domestics projects and shows how to introduce and apply BIM technology in the architectural design firms and construction companies and how to train their engineers with BIM technology.

  • 90년대 초 한국의 건설 경기가 호황을 누리면서 건설현장을 관리할 수 있는 특급기술자에 대한 수요가 커졌었다. 이러한 특급기술자의 수요를 맞추기 위해 정부는 1995년에 기술사시험에 의하지 않고 단지 경력년 수만으로 특급기술자 자격을 부여하는 인정경력자제도를 만들었다. 그러나 2000년 이후 특급기술자의 부족현상은 해소되었고, 그 반대로 특급기술자의 심각한 과잉공급이 초래되었다. 따라서, 정부는 인정경력자제도를 폐지(기존의 인정경력자를 인정)한다고 발표하였다. 그러나 기술인협회에서는 기존의 인정기술자까지도 인정하지 말아야 한다며 대립 주장을 펴고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 대립관점에서 시스템 다이내믹스 방법론을 이용한 수요공급 예측 모델은 정부와 기술인협회사이의 대립주장을 해결할 수 있는 실마리를 제공할 것이다. 본 논문은 각 시나리오를 통해 인정기술사제도의 변화에 따른 특급기술자의 공급변화를 보여주며, 정책입안자가 특급기술자의 수요와 공급의 균형을 위한 제안점을 시사하고 있다.

친환경 건설 전문 인력의 핵심 역량 요인 분석 (Key Competency Factors of Professional Engineer in Environment - friendly Construction Industry)

  • 전 세계적으로 환경 문제가 대두되면서 에너지 사용량 절감에 대한 사회적 관심이 커지고 있다. 우리나라 또한 에너지 사용량 비중이 큰 건축부문의 에너지 사용량 절감을 위한 친환경 건설의 필요성이 강조되고 지속적인 기술개발과 정부의 지원을 바탕으로 친환경 건설 시장은 빠른 속도의 성장을 보이고 있다. 친환경 건설시장이 성장하면서 친환경 전문기업들이 생겨나고 있지만 관련 지식과 노하우를 갖춘 전문가들의 수는 부족하다. 지속적으로 성장하는 친환경 건설 시장의 변화에 대비하기 위하여 전문인력 양성의 기반 마련이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 친환경 건설 산업의 전문 인력에게 요구되는 역량요인에 대한 설문을 실시하고 탐색적 요인분석을 통하여 핵심 역량 요인을 도출하고 각각의 의미를 분석하였다. 분석 결과 총 4개의 역량 요인이 도출되었으며 그 중 2개의 요인인 '친환경 및 지속가능성에 대한 이해'와 '인적 관리 역량'이 핵심적인 역량 요인이라는 것을 도출하였다. 본 연구는 인력 양성에 필요한 역량 기준 및 평가에 대한 준비를 위한 기초연구가 될 것이다.

  • This paper Is described for the maintenance and repair method for the pier structure currently under repair works in the Han river bridges. During the economic growth period from the year 1960 to 1980, our engineer was concentrated only for study of the construction method of bridge. We have neglected the importance for the maintenance & repair method of construction structure. Therefore this paper will give you some ideas of repair and maintenance method.
