Visual inspection is regarded as one of the critical activities for quality control in a manufacturing company. it is thus important to improve the performance of detecting a defective part or product. There are three probable working modes for visual inspection: fully automatic (by automatic machines), fully manual (by human operators), and semi-automatic (by collaboration between human operators and automatic machines). Most of the current studies on visual inspection have been focused on the improvement of automatic detection performance by developing a better automatic machine using computer vision technologies. However, there are still a range of situations where human operators should conduct visual inspection with/without automatic machines. In this situation, human operators'performance of visual inspection is significant to the successful quality control. However, visual inspection of components assembled into a mobile camera module belongs to those situations. This study aims to investigate human performance issues in visual inspection of the components, paying more attention to human errors. For this, Abstraction Hierarchy-based work domain modeling method was applied to examine a range of direct or indirect factors related to human errors and their relationships in the visual inspection of the components. Although this study was conducted in the context of manufacturing mobile camera modules, the proposed method would be easily generalized into other industries.
The purpose of this study are two the first is to identify the positioning of product design and analyze its functional relationship with product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales in the comprehensive competitiveness evaluation model ; and the second is to estimate the determinants of QCI(quality competitiveness index), analyze the impact of product design on QCI, and compare the aforementioned results for the seven industrial sectors and the five product patterns. For this empirical analysis, this study surveyed 400 Korean manufacturing firms during August-October 2003. The major empirical findings are summarized as follows : First, the hypothesis on the positive effect of product design on QCI is accepted at a highly significant level (p < 0.001) for all : the manufacturing sector, seven industrial sectors, and five product categories. Second, the correlation analysis and factor analysis lead to the result that the effect of product design on QCI is estimated to be relatively very low, in comparison to those of product functionality and basic performance on QCI. These findings imply that Korean manufacturing sector has been still in the prematured stage at which product design has not played an important role yet. This study concludes that product design in line with other functions (product development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales) should make a good contribution to the improvement of QCI in the future.

This study examined the stakeholder cognition of the safety certification marking system by surveying manufacturers, lessors, and users. In addition, among various issues about safety certification marking systems, the improvement of safety certification marking contents was suggested in order to guarantee quality of temporary equipments. The results by statistical method show that it is necessary to increase of users' understanding about the safety certification marking system. In addition, the quality management system of temporary equipments should be introduced to control the actual condition that temporary equipments of various product companies are mixed in a site during removal and reuse processes. For detailed marking contents, it is recommended that a certification mark, an identification number, and the production year should be displayed and the manufacturer name could be selectively presented. Detail informations such as a safety certification number, a product company, a model type or name, a specification, a weight, a product number, and the location of a certification mark should be identified by the identification number.
This study investigate the interaction effects of bundle price discount framing and message framing on consumer's attitude of bundle component. Although each effect of bundle price discount framing and message framing has been explored individually, few attempts have been made to invest them jointly. This study tests the interaction effects of bundle price discount framing and message framing on consumer's evaluation of bundle component. Moreover, this research focuses on consumer's evaluation of individual bundle component while the existing research on bundling primarily focused on consumer's evaluation of the bundle. Prior research suggests that consumers are sensitive to the framing of prices and discounts in the presentation of the bundle offer. For example, there is considerable evidence that partitioning or consolidating the prices of a bundle can influence the attractiveness of the bundle offer. Similarly, there is evidence that an equivalent price reduction to the overall bundle, one of the individual products in the bundle, or distributed among the individual products in the bundle can alter the perceived attractiveness of the offer (e.g. Chakravarti, Krish, Paul, and Srivastava 2002; Hamilton and Srivastava 2008; Janiszewski and Cunha 2004; Johnson, Herrmann and Bauer 1999; ; Morwitz, Greenleaf, and Johnson 1998; Yadav 1994; 1995). In line with these earlier research, this research suggests that the bundle type can influence the consumer's evaluation of bundle component. There are two types of bundle - mixed-leader bundle and mixed-joint bundle. In mixed-leader bundling, the price of one of the two products is discounted when the other product is purchased at the regular price. In mixed-joint bundling, a single price is set when the two product are purchased jointly. This study supposes that the teeth whitening product is the leader product in a mixed-leader bundle. So bundle price discount framing is manipulated such as "Buy the teeth whitening product (regular price \80,000) and get 50% discount on the functional toothpaste(regular price \40,000), special set price \100,000" or "Buy the functional toothpaste and the teeth whitening product as a set and get discount for the set, special set price \60,000". Message framing is manipulated through the product claims described in an advertising bill. The positive framing presents that "Over 95% of users achieved the expected 2-3 shades of improvement in two weeks" where as the negative framing presents "less than 5% of users did not achieve the expected 2-3 shades of improvement in two weeks". This study uses hypothetical brand name of the teeth whitening product and the functional toothpaste This study is based on a 2x2 factorial design with bundle discount framing (mixed-leader bundle vs. mixed-joint bundle) and massage framing (positive vs. negative). The dependant variables are consumer's perceived quality and attitude of the teeth whitening product The data reveals that two dependant variables are correlated, so the data is analyzed with two-way MANOVA. This research explores the significant interaction effect of bundle discount framing and message framing on consumer's perceived quality and attitude of the teeth whitening product. When the message framing is positive, consumer's perceived quality and attitude of the teeth whitening product is higher in mixed-leader bundle than mixed-joint bundle condition. However, when the message framing is negative, consumer's evaluation is higher in mixed-joint bundle than mixed-leader bundle. The author explains this result by stating that consumers are less likely to use heuristics such as price-quality association and value discounting hypothesis(Raghubir 2004) in the negative message framing condition. Additionally, consumer's perceived risk of the teeth whitening product in the negative message framing condition can be more reduced by the bundle partner(e.g. the toothpaste) in mixed-joint bundle than mixed-leader bundle. Based on the results, marketing managers are advised to use different bundle type based on message framing of their product.

A systematic investigation for process design in deep drawing is necessary for quality improvement of drawn cups. This study has been concentrated mainly on the influence of process design scheme on product qualities in cylindrical cup drawing. Three types of process design scheme were chosen in this study. That is, Case 1 is to finish drawing a cup of 50m in diameter in one stage, Case 2 and Case 3 are redrawing the drawn cups of 55, 65 mm in diameter to the final size respectively. Though experiments the maximum drawing force in two-stage cup drawing could be reduced up to 35% as compared with that of one-stage cup drawing. In addition, the Case 2 and Case 3 processes showed better product qualities than the Case 1 process when comparing distributions of thickness, hardness, dimensional accuracy.
The purpose of this study is to minimize the PCH(Propylene CHlorohydrins) as a by-product in HPMC(HydroxyPropyl MethylCellulose) manufacturing process. HPMC is made of cellulose which is natural high polymer. And HPMC is applicable to several industrial areas. Especially it can be used in food industry as an effective additive. PCH is the by-product which is generated in chemical reaction in HPMC manufacturing process. So it is essential to eliminate PCH for the improvement of product quality. Therefore we have studied to minimize the amount of PCH. It is expected that the application of HPMC could be enlarged as the result of this study.
Purpose - Despite the importance of price, many companies do not implement pricing policies smoothly, because typical price management strategies insufficiently consider logistics efficiency and an increase in logistics costs due to logistics waste. This study attempts to examine the effect of product line pricing, which corresponds to product mix pricing, on logistics efficiency in the case of manufacturer A, and analyzes how logistics performance changes in response to these variables. Research design, data, and methodology - This study, based on the case of manufacturer A, involved research through understanding the current status, analyses, and then proposing improvement measures. Among all the products of manufacturer A, product group B was selected as the research object, and its distribution channel and line pricing were examined. As a result of simulation, for products with low loading efficiency, improvement measures such as changing the number of bags in the box were suggested, and a quantitative analysis was conducted on how these measures influence logistics costs. The TOPS program was used for the Pallet loading efficiency simulation tool in this study. To prevent products from protruding out of the pallet, the maximum measurement was set as 0.0mm, and loading efficiency was based on the pallet area, and not volume. In other words, its size (length x width) was focused upon, following the purpose of this study and, then, the results were obtained. Results - As a result of the loading efficiency simulation, when the number of bags in the box was changed for 36 products with low average loading efficiency of 73.7%, as shown in
, loading efficiency improved to 89.9%. Further, from calculating logistics cost based on the cost calculation standard of manufacturer A, the amount of annual logistics cost reduction amounted to 101,458,084 KRW. Given that the sum of the logistics cost of the product group B of manufacturing enterprises A is 400,340,850 KRW, it can be reduced by 25%, to 298,882,766 KRW. Although many methods improve loading efficiency, this study proved that logistics cost could be reduced by changing the number of bags within boxes. If this measure is applied to other items, visible logistics cost reduction effects will be realized through improvements in loading efficiency. Conclusions - Future pricing policies should consider their correlation with quality, loading efficiency, product specifications, and logistics standardization to prevent logistics waste, enabling management to improve earnings for companies. Thus, when companies decide pricing policies for new products, the aspects of merchandising and marketing should take priority; however, the aspect of logistics also needs to be considered as significant. Measures revealed by the study results are not only the responsibilities of manufacturing enterprises. Pricing policy agreements between manufacturing enterprises and distribution companies, and logistics factors related to price determination should be considered; further, governments should also support them for their collaborations. This will enable consumers to purchase quality products with low prices.
