Background: The presence of visuospatial impairment can make patients slow functional recovery and impede the rehabilitation process in TBI patients. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate effects of prism adaptation treatment for functional outcomes in patients following traumatic brain injury. Methods: The subject received prism adaptation treatment for 2 weeks additionally during traditional rehabilitation for 4 weeks. The Patient has prism adaptation treatment while wearing wedge prisms that shift the external environment about $12^{\circ}$ leftward. The patient received 10 sessions, 15-20min each session. Outcome measures were visuospatial deficit(line bisection, latter cancellation), Visual and spatial perception(LOTCA-visual perception and spatial perception), motor function of upper extremity(FMA U/E; Fugl-Meyer motor assessment upper extremity, ARAT; Action research arm test), balance(BBS; Berg Balance Scale), mobility(FAC; Functional ambulation classification) and functional level(FIM; Functional independent measure). All Assessments took place on study entry and post-treatment assessments were performed at discharge from the hospital. Results: After prism adaptation, the visuospatial impairment scores improved as indicated in the line bisection(-15.2 to -6.02), latter cancellation(2 to 0) and LOTCA- spatial perception scores(7 to 9). The upper motor function improved as indicated in the scores of affected FMA U/E(21 to 40) and ARAT(4 to 22). Ambulation and balance improved as indicated in the BBS scores(25 to 38) and FAC scores(0 to 4). ADL function improved as indicated in the FIM total scores 54 to 70(motor 34 to 61, cognition 20 to 29). Conclusion: Prism adaptation did improve functional level such as motor functions and ADL abilities in TBI patient. Further research is recommended.

Purpose: To investigate an individual phoria compensating effect by measuring the lens adaptation after wearing horizontal prism or spherical lenses at near. Methods: 103 subjects (63 males and 40 females) aged $22.43{\pm}2.07years$ participated for this study. Refractive errors of subjects were fully corrected, and subjects were classified into three groups; esophoria, orthophoria and exophoria. The adaptation test of prism and spherical lenses was performed immediately, 15 minutes and 30 minutes after wearing lenses with $OU\;2\;{\Delta}\;BO$ and S+1.00 D for an esophoria group and $OU\;2\;{\Delta}\;BI$ and S-1.00 D for orthophoria and exophoria groups, respectively. Each measured phoria was compared to phoria measured with fully corrected condition, and the phoria changing effects about both lenses was analyzed. Results: The mean of phoria by prism lenses significantly decreased for every group. The mean of phoria by spherical lenses also significantly decreased in orthophoria and exophoria groups. The esophoria group showed a decreasing tendency but has no significance. The decreased phoria value by prism lens was classified into three steps; 90~100%, 0~10% and 50% or more. According to results of individual distribution ratio, it was 5, 64 and 24 subjects at 30 minutes after wearing lenses, respectively. The decreased phoria value by spherical lens was classified into three steps; 90~100%, 0~10% and 50% or more. According to results of individual distribution ratio, it was 37, 53 and 41 subjects at 30 minutes after wearing lenses, respectively. The subjects having no phoria changed by both prism and spherical lenses were 37.9%. Conclusions: When prescribing to compensate the near horizontal phoria using prism or spherical lens, the pretest for lens adaptation should be taken before prescription.
It is increasingly supported by scientific evidence that greenhouse gas caused by human activities is changing the global climate. In particular, the changing climate has affected human health, directly or indirectly, and its adverse impacts are estimated to increase in the future. In response, many countries have established and implemented a variety of mitigation and adaptation measures. However, it is significant to note that climate change will continue over the next few centuries and its impacts on human health should be tackled urgently. The purpose of this paper is to examine domestic policies and research in health sector in adaptation to climate change. It further aims to recommend future research directions for enhanced response to climate change in public health sector, by reviewing a series of adaptation policies in the selected countries and taking into account the general features of health adaptation policies. In this regard, this study first evaluates the current adaptation policies in public health sector by examining the National Climate Change Adaptation Master Plan(2011~2015) and Comprehensive Plan for Environment and Health(2011~2020) and reviewing research to date of the government and relevant institutions. For the literature review, two information service systems are used: namely, the National Science and Technology Information Service(NTIS) and the Policy Research Information Service & Management(PRISM). Secondly, a series of foreign adaptation policies are selected based on the global research priorities set by WHO (2009) and reviewed in order to draw implications for domestic research. Finally, the barriers or constraints in establishing and implementing health adaptation policies are analyzed qualitatively, considering the general characteristics of adaptation in the health sector to climate change, which include uncertainty, finance, technology, institutions, and public awareness. This study provides four major recommendations: to mainstream health sector in the field of adaptation policy and research; to integrate cross-sectoral adaptation measures with an aim to the improvement of health and well-being of the society; to enhance the adaptation measures based on evidence and cost-effectiveness analysis; and to facilitate systemization in health adaptation through setting the key players and the agenda.
Modernity is commonly defined as a reflection of the features of modern society based on the historical experience of the West. As such, modernity includes involvement with political, economic, and social changes, a changing world-view, and changing trends in equality, gender roles, a desire for "the new," consumption, distribution based on mass production, and rational reform in fashion and dress. First and foremost, however, modernity in costume has been driven by the functional requirements of industrial capitalism. But while modernity has popularly been regarded as some sort of universal standard, in fact the West and the other societies have vastly different, unique, and particular experiences with their own respective histories of modernization. For this reason, cultural changes in the modernization process should be-indeed, must be-analyzed in the context of a country's own unique historical and cultural circumstances, rather than through the prism or strict adaptation of generalized Western concepts of modernization. Moreover, a "periodization" of the modernization of fashion and dress can be established by examining the characteristics of modernity in costume.

In this paper, we described the statistical modeling of crop yields using satellite images, climatic datasets, soil property maps, and fertilizer data for the Midwestern United States during 2001-2012. Satellite images were obtained from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and climatic datasets were provided by the Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model (PRISM) Climate Group. Soil property maps were derived from the Harmonized World Soil Database (HWSD). Our multivariate regression models produced quite good prediction accuracies, with differences of approximately 8-15% from the governmental statistics of corn and soybean yields. The unfavorable conditions of climate and vegetation in 2012 could have resulted in a decrease in yields according to the regression models, but the actual yields were greater than predicted. It can be interpreted that factors other than climate, vegetation, soil, and fertilizer may be involved in the negative biases. Also, we found that soybean yield was more affected by minimum temperature conditions while corn yield was more associated with photosynthetic activities. These two crops can have different potential impacts regarding climate change, and it is important to quantify the degree of the crop sensitivities to climatic variations to help adaptation by humans. Considering the yield decreases during the drought event, we can assume that climatic effect may be stronger than human adaptive capacity. Thus, further studies are demanded particularly by enhancing the data regarding human activities such as tillage, fertilization, irrigation, and comprehensive agricultural technologies.
The IEEE 802.11 wireless standard uses the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) as its MAC protocol (during the distributed coordination function period). This protocol is an adaptation of the CSMA/CD of the wired networks. CSMA/CA mechanism cannot guarantee quality of service (QoS) required by the application because orits random access method. In this study, we propose a new MAC protocol that considers different types of traffic (e.g., voice and data) and for each traffic type different priority levels are assigned. To improve the QoS of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols over a multi-channel CSMA/CA, we have developed a new admission policy for both voice and data traffics. This protocol can be performed in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) or frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). For voice traffic we reserve a channel, while for data traffic the access is random using a CSMA/CA mechanism, and in this case a selective reject and push-out mechanism is added to meet the quality of service required by data traffic. To study the performance of the proposed protocol and to show the benefits of our design, a mathematical model is built based on Markov chains. The system could be represented by a Markov chain which is difficult to solve as the state-space is too large. This is due to the resource management and user mobility. Thus, we propose to build an aggregated Markov chain with a smaller state-space that allows performance measures to be computed easily. We have used stochastic comparisons of Markov chains to prove that the proposed access protocol (with selective reject and push-out mechanisms) gives less loss rates of high priority connections (data and voices) than the traditional one (without admission policy and selective reject and push-out mechanisms). We give numerical results to confirm mathematical proofs.
Spatial neglect is a neurological disorder following stroke, a lesion that usually affects the right hemisphere, fail to process or attention on the contralateral side of body and space. Functional neuroimaging studies report that spatial neglect is associated with lesions of large middle cerebral artery, perisylvian network and attention network. Spatial neglect is associated with a poor outcome. For optimal diagnosis and intervention, Types and theories of spatial neglect should be considered, in addition to clinical assessment with the conventional test and functional test. The treatment for spatial neglect could be consist of top-down approaches and bottom-up approaches. Recent trends in rehabilitation intervention for spatial neglect have reported prism adaptation.
