Activity measurement of the primary circuit water of fission reactors is one method that can provide early detection of a damaged fuel assembly in the reactor core. This is an important aspect in the safe operation of the reactor and for radiation protection of staff. Radionuclides in the primary circuit water are produced by the activation of stable nuclides and the fission of fissile nuclides, mainly the isotope 235U. In the LVR-15 research reactor, measurement of the activity of the primary circuit water has been regularly undertaken since 1996. A water sample is taken from the primary circuit every week and the activities are measured four days later using gamma spectrometry. The results of these long-term measurements from 1996 to 2022 are presented. The activity time dependences of the individual radionuclides are discussed in relation to fuel assembly damage and for events connected to contamination of the water by objects inserted into the primary circuit during experiments carried out near the reactor core.
We studied to screen medicinal plants having hepatoprotective activity with the primary cultured rat hepatocytes intoxicated with carbon tetrachloride cytotoxicity. The lowest concentration and treatment time of carbon tetrachloride giving the greatest intoxication to the primary cultured hepatocytes were observed in 10mM and 60 minutes, respectively. GTP and GOT activity of culture broth of the primary cultured rat hepatocytes intoxicated by $CCl_4$ cytotoxicity at this condition were increased 135.9% and 178.3% compared with that of the primaries cultured hepatocytes not treated with $CCl_4$, respectively. This increased GPT activity was inhibited by glycyrrizin, which was known to have hepatoprotective activity, and the inhibition activity was dependent on the concentration of glycyrrhizin. Forty species among the extracts obtained from 117 species of medicinal plants were shown to have the hepatoprotective activity. Among these 40 species, Prunus persica, Scutellaria baicalensis, Astragalus membranaceus, Tribulus terrestris, Caragana chamlagu, Acanthopanax sessiliflorum and Achyranthes japonica were indicated a lower GPT activity than that of Glycyrrhiza uralensis containing glycyrrhizin and GPT activity of these were indicated 75.5%, 70.0%, 59.0%, 77.5%, 60.0%, 75.0% and 79.0%, respectively.
Icariside II, a flavonol glycoside, was isolated from the aerial part of Epimedium Koreanum Nakai by the anti-hepatotoxic acitivity guided fractionation technique employing $CCl_4-in-toxicated$ primary cultured rat hepatocytes as an assay system. Its anti-hepatotoxic activity was evaluated by measuring activity of glutamic pyruvic transaminase released from the $CCl_4-in-toxicated$ primary cultured rat hapatocytes. Icariside II significantly reduced the activity of glutamic pyruvic transaminase released from the $CCl_4-in-toxicated$ primary cultured rat hepatocytes and resulted in 78% recovery of the toxicity at the concentration of $200{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$. The anti-hepatotoxic activity of icariside II on the $CCl_4-in-toxicated$ primary cultured rat hepatocytes was as potent as that of silybin.
The present study aimed to identify the importance of forest experience activity by examining what effects forest experience activity has on primary school students. The study population consisted of 108 students enrolled as fourth graders in primary schools in Chuncheon as of November 2017. The study measured the changes in their attitude toward forest and personality from before and after forest experience activity. The results indicated that the primary school students who participated in forest experience activity showed statistically significant increase in attitude toward forest and personality. In other words, the study identified the positive effects of forest experience activity on recognizing the importance of nature and personality building. The present study aimed to test the importance and effects of forest experience through forest experience activity outside of the classroom, as well as to present the validity of promoting forest experience activity.
The short gastrulation (sog) shadow enhancer directs early and late sog expression in the neurogenic ectoderm and the ventral midline of the developing Drosophila embryo, respectively. Here, evidence is presented that the sog primary enhancer also has both activities, with the late enhancer activity dependent on the early activity. Computational analyses showed that the sog primary enhancer contains five Dorsal (Dl)-, four Zelda (Zld)-, three Bicoid (Bcd)-, and no Single-minded (Sim)-binding sites. In contrast to many ventral midline enhancers, the primary enhancer can direct lacZ expression in the ventral midline as well as in the neurogenic ectoderm without a canonical Simbinding site. Intriguingly, the impaired transcriptional synergy between Dl and either Zld or Bcd led to aberrant and abolished lacZ expression in the neurogenic ectoderm and in the ventral midline, respectively. These findings suggest that the two enhancer activities of the sog primary enhancer are functionally consolidated and geographically inseparable.

To study the caries patterns in primary dentition, 719 preschool children, 4-6 years old, were examined for their caries activity(salivary reductase activity) and caries experience of individual teeth. Teeth groups were made by cluster analysis using dft indexes of individual teeth as criteria. The six major teeth groups in the order of dft index from high to low were (1) lower primary molars, (2) upper primary molars, (3) upper central incisor, (4) upper lateral incisor, (5) canines, and (6) lower incisors. There were significant differences in dft index between teeth groups except upper lateral incisor and canines. Upper and lower primary molars showed the highest correlation in dft index, and the next couples were upper central incisors and upper lateral incisors, upper lateral incisor and canines, upper central incisor and canines, upper lateral incisor and upper primary molars, and canines and upper primary molars in descending order. Upper first primary molar showed the greatest differences in dft index between caries activity levels.
To devise an in vitro screening method for antihepatotoxic activity, $CCl_4-induced$ cytotoxicities in primary cultures rat hepatocytes were examined. When rat hepatocytes were intoxicated with 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 mM $CCl_4$ for 1.5, 3 or 19hr, in order of LDH>GOT>GPT release form hepatocytes was increased in a dose-dependent manner. Treatment with 1.5 mM $CCl_4$ for 1.5 hr showed maximum increase in activity of LDH, GOT or GPT released in the medium compared with the control. At this experimental condition, well known antihepatotoxic substances, glycyrrhizin and silybin markedly inhibited $CCl_4-induced$ cytotoxicities. These results demonstrated that the screening method using $CCl_4-induced$ injury in primary cultured rat hepatocytes might be suitable in vitro assay for antihepatotoxic activity.
Scopoletin (7-hydroxy-6-methoxycoumarin), a coumarin, was isolated from the aerial part of Solanum lyratum Thunb. by the activity-guided fractionation employing carbon te trachloride-intoxicated primary cultured rat hepatocytes as a screening system. Its hepatoprotective activity was first evaluated by measuring the release of glutamic pyruvic transaminase and sorbitol dehydrogenase from carbon tetrachloride-intoxicated rat hepatocytes into the culture medium. Scopoletin significantly reduced the releases of glutamic pyruvic transaminase and sorbitol dehydrogenase from the carbon tetrachloride-intoxicated primary cultured rat hepatocytes by 53% and 58%, respectively, from the toxicity in a dose-dependent manner over concentration ranges of 1mcM to 50mcM. Further studies revealed that at the concentration of 10mcM, scopoletin significantly preserved glutathione content by 50% and the activity of superoxide dismutase by 36% and also inhibited the production of malondialdehyde to the degree as seen in the control.
Takjoo mashes which were collected from the Takjoo breweries in Seoul area were studied on the purpose of detection for the reciprocal actions between amylase activity and saccharifying ability. The results obtained are as follows. Amylase activity was found to be usually high in the primary brewing process as well as the main brewing process. And especially, .alpha.-amylase in the primary brewing process showed remarkably high activity, more than 5.0 D.P. per/ml of mash comparing with 3.8 D.P. per ml of mash in the main brewing process. However, it was revealed that the reducing sugar contents in the primary brewing process were much higher in its average contents, 5.5%, than 1.1% in the main brewing process.
Acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) is the enzyme that controls no devo fatty acid biogynthesis, and this enzyme catalyzes the carboxylation pathway of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA carboxylase gene expression was regulated by nutritional and hormonal status. The present study was performed to identify the regulation mechanism of ACC gene promoter I. The fragments of ACC promoter I -1.2-kb region wert recombined to pGL3-Basic vector with luciferase as a reporter gene. The primary hepatocytes from the rat were used to investigate the hormonal regulation of ACC promoter I activity. ACC PI (-1.2)/Luc plasmid was trtransferred into primary hepatocytes using lipofectin. Activity of luciferase was increased two-fold by 10-9M, three-fold by 10-8M, 10-6M, 3.5-fold by 10-6M, and 4.5-fold by 10-7M insulin treatment, respectively. In the presence of dexamethasone (1 $\mu$M), the effects of insulin increased about 1.5-fold, showing the additional effects of dexamethasone. Moreover, the activity of luciferase increased with insulin+dexamethasone, insulin+T3, dexamethasone+T3, and dexamethasone+insulin+T3 treatment approximately 6-, 4-, 6.5-, and 10-fold, respectively. Therefore it can be postulated that 1) these hormones coordinately regulate acetyl-CoA caroxylase gene expression via regulation of promoter activity, 2) the -1.2-kb region of ACC promoter I may have the response element sequences for insulin, dexamethasone, and T3.
