  • It is well known that internet shoppers are very sensitive to sale prices. They visit the various shopping malls and collect the product information including purchase conditions for goods purchase decision-making. Recently the necessity of information support is increasing because of increase of information amount which is necessary and complexity of goods purchase decision-making process. The comparison shopping agent systems have provided price comparison information which is collected from various shopping malls to satisfy internet shoppers information craving. But the frequent price change caused by keen price competition is becoming the primary reason of information quality decline among price comparison sites. RSS which is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated is applied even in on-line shopping malls. This paper develops a RSS product information collection system to get real-time product information. The proposed product information system consists of (1) web crawler module for searching RSS feed shopping malls automatically, (2) RSS reader module for parsing product information from RSS feed file, (3) product DB and (4) product searching module. Performance of the proposed system is higher than the comparison shopping agent systems when it is defined with the volume of collecting product information per unit time.

  • The purpose of the study is investigating the price fluctuation of landscaping plants in the Information on Commodity Prices(ICP) and the posted price fluctuation of landscaping plants of Public Procurement Service(PPS) recent 10 years. It also provides the basic information which can be applied to production and sales of landscaping plants, comparing with general price index. The major findings of the study are as follows. First, The price of investigated plants of PPS has increased about 4.56% in average recent 10 years. Among this increase, of evergreen tree was predominant. On the other hand, landscaping trees price of ICP has increased about only 2.34% in average. Secondly, The result shows that average price of investigated plants of PPS is positively related with the price of ICP. For this reason, we found that prices of ICP and of PPS move together in most case. However, we found that there are no relation between Consumer Price Index(CPI), Producer Price Index(PPI) and Agricultural Price Index(API). Therefore, price fluctuation of landscaping trees moves regardless of normal price fluctuation in general. Third, even though result shows that price index of evergreen trees, deciduous trees and shrubs are weakly related with normal price index partly, it was not high enough to be significant. According to the result, we found that price of landscaping plants is not related with market situation. For this reason, we thought that there are some difficulties for the reasonable production and sales of landscaping plants because the price is somewhat decided by rule of thumb. Therefore, understanding the composition of cost and making prediction by price fluctuation available are needed so that it can be practically conducive to reasonable production and sales.

  • Consumers' price related response in the clothing purchase decision-making process includes their expectation of price, price perception, attitude toward price and consequent behaviors. The purposes of this research are to systematically organize consumers' price related responses in the clothing purchase decision-making process, and to explain the effect of price on their purchasing. The qualitative research including shopping observation and in-depth interview was conducted. The result identified stages that showed different price related responses in clothing purchase decision-making process, and clarified each stage's characteristics. In the internal search stage, consumers recalled price information from memory and had a specific expectation about the price. This set a direction for the external search. In the external search stage, consumers selected brands or stores by a non-compensatory evaluating with an expectation of the price, and narrowed these down to several determinant alternatives by actively evaluating the products. In case a sufficient amount of price information was not recalled, the consumer established reference price through the external search. Finally, in the purchasing stage, consumers evaluated the determinant alternatives based on their compensatory evaluation. When perception of price was negative, consumers evaluate price combined with the higher criteria of clothing benefits, such as symbolic value and usability. The research is expected to contribute to predicting consumers' responses to price, and to establishing an effective pricing strategy.

  • Purpose - Color is perceived to have an effect on humans' cognition and behavior because of its association with specific concepts. Since there are few studies linking color and price presentation, we investigated a constrained condition of consumers' regulatory focus and involvement. Research design, data, and methodology - We performed a 2 (color: red vs. black) × 2 (regulatory focus: prevention vs. promotion) × 2 (involvement: high vs. low) test of our hypothesis. The target product was a portable data storage device (USB) and data from 165 respondents were analyzed. Each condition had two stages. In the first, product information and price were presented. After reviewing the product information, respondents evaluated price attractiveness. In the second stage, respondents filled out regulatory focus and involvement questionnaires. The main variables were color, regulatory focus, and involvement. Therefore, we ran a three-way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) to test our hypothesis. Results - When the price was red (vs. black), consumers perceived the red price as more attractive than the black price. However, this effect varied by situation. Specifically, in the low involvement condition among prevention-focused consumers, when the price was in red, price attractiveness was higher than when the price was in black. However, for promotion-focused consumers, there was no difference in the price color effect. In the high involvement condition, promotion-focused consumers showed stronger price attractiveness for the red price than the black price. However, the effect of price color diminished for prevention-focused consumers. That is, prevention-focused consumers did not reveal a different price perception between red versus black in the high involvement condition. Conclusions - This research contributes by academically linking the effects of color to price attractiveness, and focusing on the interaction of regulatory focus and involvement. When involvement is low, the effect of red disappeared for promotion-focused consumers, whereas the same happened for prevention-focused consumers under the condition of high involvement.

  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) changed our everyday business drastically. Business routines have been transformed to online activities. New theories and models were developed for the brand new online environment. For online negotiations, however, the research on new mechanisms is not enough, especially for bilateral distributive negotiations. A reserve price reporting mechanism (RPR) together with its extended version (ERPR) is proposed in this paper. The key improvement of reserve price reporting mechanisms is to let the negotiators report their reserve price to a third-party system before they actually start the negotiation. A prototype of this RPR system is developed and a lab experiment is conducted to test the performance of the two mechanisms compared with traditional direct bargaining (TDB) mechanism. The results of the experiment support that the reserve price report mechanisms proposed are more efficient than the traditional one in several dimensions including social welfare.

  • The rapid change in gold price is an issue of concern in the global economy and financial markets. Gold has been used as a means for trading and transaction around the world for long period of time and it plays an integral role in monetary, business, commercial and financial activities. More importantly, it is used as economic measure for the global economy and will continue to play an important economic vital role - both locally and globally. There has been an explosive growth in demand for efficient and effective scheme to predict gold price due its volatility and fluctuation. Hence, there is need for the development of gold price prediction scheme to assist and support investors, marketers, and financial institutions in making effective economic and monetary decisions. This paper primarily proposed an intelligent based system for predicting and characterizing the gold market trend. The simulation result shows that the proposed intelligent gold price scheme has been able to predict the gold price with high accuracy and precision, and ultimately it has significantly reduced the prediction error when compared to baseline neural network (NN).

  • Purpose: Previous literature shows that a price promotion serves as a negative cue of product quality especially when consumers have no additional information about the product's other attributes. In this research, we explore how the effect of price promotions on consumers' perceptions of product quality changes depending on their ability to compare promoted product attributes with competitive products' attributes. Research design, data and methodology: Specifically, we use a series of scenario-based lab experiments using different types of products and explore if attribute alignability among competing products in a consumer's choice set influences consumers' ability to compare the product attributes and perceived quality. Results: Our study findings show that high attribute alignability among products makes consumers easier to compare the product attributes and thereby focus more on non-price information than price information. We also show that attribute alignability serves as a moderator and decreases perceived quality when the promotion level is higher. Therefore, the attribute alignability weakens the negative impact of a price promotion on consumers' perceived product quality. Conclusions: Our study findings provide new insights on how to implement price promotion strategies while keeping products' perceived quality, by considering the product's relationships with competing products in a choice set.
