The plan of stabilizing Gyeongnam Chung-yang Green Pepper Farm Income (경남 청양 풋고추농가 소득 안정화 방안)

  • This study examined the instability factor of real income and net profits of Chung-yang Green Pepper Farm through an analysis of the operating costs. Furthermore, this paper suggests a plan for stabilizing the price by shipment adjustments resulting from an analysis of the price elasticity by A Linear Approximated Inverse Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/IAIDS). The income instability factor of the farm based on an analysis of the operating costs was attributed to the unexpected loading of utility expenses and collapse of the price due to oversupply at a specific point in time. On the other hand, this is insufficient to completely explain the income instability factor of Chung-yang Green Pepper Farm because a price collapse does not include the monthly price changes. An analysis of the price and scale flexibility of Chung-yang Green Pepper Farm by monthly data showed that annual farm net yield increases by 1.21% due to a 2.21% increase in price if the shipment quantity is reduced to 1% a year. In summary, a plan that supports the farm price received through declining shipments in winter is effective in stabilizing the income of farms. Because Chung-yang Green Pepper in Gyeongnam region has an especially high market share of 82.5%, the prices and income of Gyeongnam Chung-yang Green Pepper farms can be stabilized effectively if they form an association of producers around the Gyeongnam region and adjust the shipment.

MobPrice: Dynamic Data Pricing for Mobile Communication

  • In mobile communication, mobile services [MSs] (e.g., phone calls, short/multimedia messages, and Internet data) incur a cost to both mobile users (MUs) and mobile service providers (MSPs). The proposed model MobPrice consists of dynamic data pricing schemes for mobile communication in order to achieve optimal usage of MSs at minimal prices. MobPrice inspires MUs to subscribe MSs with flexibility of data sharing and intra-peer exchanges, thereby reducing overall cost. The main contributions of MobPrice are three-fold. First, it proposes a novel k-level data-pricing (kDP) scheme for MSs. Second, it extends the kDP scheme with the notion of service-sharing-based pricing schemes to a collaborative peer-to-peer data-pricing (pDP) scheme and a cluster-based data-pricing (cDP) scheme to incorporate the notion of 'cluster' (made up of two or more MUs) in mobile communication. Third, our performance study shows that the proposed schemes are indeed effective in maximizing MS subscriptions and minimizing MS's price/user.

An Analysis of the Price and Scale Flexibilities on Different Varieties of Green Pepper (풋고추 품종별 가격 및 규모 신축성 분석)

  • Three varieties of green pepper - Chungyang pepper, Cucumber-taste pepper and Nokgwang pepper - are competing with one another in consumption due to the overlapping shipment period. The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of monthly variations of shipment quantities on the wholesale market prices. A Linear Approximated Inverse Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/IAIDS) is employed with monthly data set of three different varieties of green pepper consumption. The results show that if there is an excess supply in the market, the rate of the price decline is larger for forcing culture Chungyang pepper than other pepper varieties. On the contrary, change in supply of cucumber-taste pepper and Nokgwang pepper has little effect on the price of Chungyang pepper. The results of this study can be utilized as a basic information for enhancing the farm income and promoting agricultural policies related to the establishment of self-help funds by Chungyang pepper producer groups in Gyeongnam region.

High MSE wall design on weak foundations

  • Retaining structures are one of the most important elements in the stabilization of excavations and slopes in various engineering projects. Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls are widely used as retaining structures due to their flexibility, easy and economical construction. These benefits are especially prominent for projects built on soft and weak foundation soils, which have relatively low resistance and high compressibility. For high retaining walls on weak foundations, conventional design methods are not cost-effective. Therefore, two alternative solutions for different foundation weakness are proposed in this research: optimized multi-tiered MSE walls and single tier wall with foundation improvement. The cost optimization considers both the construction components and the land price. The results show that the optimal solution depends on several factors, including the foundation strength and more importantly, the land price. For low land price, the optimized multi-tiered wall is more economical, while for high land price (urban areas), the foundation improvement is preferable. As the foundation strength decreases, the foundation improvement becomes inevitable.

A Study on the Influence of Cybernetics in Architecture of Cedric Price -Focused on 'Fun Palace' Project- (세드릭 프라이스의 건축에 나타나는 사이버네틱스의 영향 -'펀 팰리스' 프로젝트를 중심으로-)

  • The 1960s in Britain was the period of rapid economic and social change. Under this circumstance, the visionary architect Cedric Price designed the Fun Palace, of which idea came from the theatre producer, Joan Littlewood. They hoped this place to be an improvisational learning space, so Price proposed the building as 'kit of parts' which can respond to programmatic indeterminacy. Cybernetics was introduced to control this flexibility dramatically changed the character of the project from 'theatre of people' to 'interactive machine'. That resulted in the change of the status of user from subjective human beings to abstract data in the cybernetic algorithm as well, and led the project to a completely opposite direction from that Price intended. After Fun Palace, cybernetics technology could still be found in his other projects, and it can be assumed that this was because the algorithmic system of cybernetics were on the same line of thought of Price's idea - anti-building or 'kit of parts'. The effects of cybernetics varied in projects; Similar negative effect in Fun Palace can be found in Generator project, but on the other hand, in Potteries Thinkbelt project, cybernetics showed a positive aspect by contribution to the development of project on the formal analogy of algorithmic network.

  • After the Enforcement of Price Deregulation of Apartment, Apartment house get down to originality goods, The Housing Market have reorganized the nucleus by a user, have demanding the development for discriminative unit plan. The purpose of this study is that before and after the Price Decontrol of Apartment take part a variety of unit plan, search for transformation factor and analyze into the tendency of the distinction plan of Housing Goods. Before and after the Price Decontrol of Apartment, Apartment unit have analyzed from 85 $m^2$ till 152 $m^2$ private area; ten corporations of civil construction' unit in Seoul and The national capital region supply apartment, will supply apartment. For selected examples, first, unit plan is normalized from the ratio of front to side wall, bay, a Room' organization and a kind of Room, number, and for examples of unit plan of apartment, the examples were analyzed with respect to change of a Room' organization and the number of a room and the ratio of front wall to side wall for item investigated. Finally, I search out course of transformation tendency of an apartment unit plan after Enforcement of Price Deregulation and analyzed a factor. The results of the study are follows, after Enforcement of Price Deregulation, unit plan of apartment lead to change lay out, to secure each family's privacy, to secure feeling for open hearted, tendency of flexibility.

A Study on Time in Architecture of Cedric Price (세드릭 프라이스 건축에 나타나는 시간 개념에 대한 연구)

  • Cedric price is an architect and educator who have had an influence on architectural thinking through teaching and projects, rather than completed buildings. The purpose of this study was to analyze the architecture of Cedric Price in terms of time. Time was an important factor to understand his architecture along with his interest in technology, so most of his architectural thinking and methodology - anti-architecture, programmatic indeterminacy, a philosophy of enabling and so on, could be explained under the consideration of time. Depending on how he considered and used the concept of time, his projects could be categorized into two groups; The first group was related to the change over time, and this group again divided into three sub categories; change of user's preference, change of external environment, and change over building lifetime. The second group was related to planning of time, which could be divided again into two categories; programmatic planning and the usage planning during the period. This categorization could provide a frame to look into his architecture, through which his projects showed the limitation in modern architecture and the possibility for contemporary architecture.

  • Decision-making in construction projects often include options features. Such embedded options are difficult to value properly and many decision makers do not have experience in option analysis. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how real option analysis can be used to value capital expenditures on construction materials. We propose a real option framework to evaluate decision-making processes involving the purchase of construction materials. A case study was conducted by evaluating the purchase decision-making of solar cells, a good with high price volatility. Using real option analysis two strategies to improve the financial feasibility of installing a solar panel system were derived. The first strategy involves using a price cap that gives the project manager the right, but not obligation, to buy the modules for a predefined price during the next year. The second strategy is to defer the purchase of the solar cells until future price information becomes clearer. Both of the strategies in the case study were valued using the binominal model. This study will help to improve the financial feasibility of purchasing construction materials with high price volatility by including the value of managerial flexibility.

  • The objectives of this study are to find the competitive advantage of Bastard Halibut type. The results of analysis are as follows. First. in the profitability analysis, bastard halibut aquaculture using Herb is more profitable than other culture type. Second, bastard halibut aquaculture using Herb has more competitive power than other culture type in terms of cost, price, delivery, and flexibility. Finally, the result of comparison between culture type shows that culture technology must be concentrated on improving flesh of an adult fish. Research on the market differentiation methods in an adult fish are needed to analysis the competitive power analysis.

  • Smart Grid has two main objectives on both supply and demand aspects which are to distribute the renewable energy sources on supply side and to develop realtime price responses on demand side. Renewable energy does not consume fossil fuels, therefore it improves the eco-friendliness and saves the cost of power system operation at the same time. Demand response increases the flexibility of the power system by mitigating the fluctuation from renewable energies, and reduces the capacity investment cost by shedding the peak load to off-peak periods. Currently Smart Grid technologies mainly focus on energy monitoring and display services but it has been proved that enabling technologies can induce the higher demand responses through many pilot projects in USA. On this context, this paper provides a price responsive algorithm for HEMS (home energy management system) on the real time pricing environment. This paper identifies the demand response as a core function of HEMS and classifies the demand into 3 categories of fixed, transferable, and realtime responsive loads which are coordinated and operated for the utility maximization or cost minimization with the optimal usage combination of three kinds of demand.
