This paper presents an effective approach for establishing countermeasures against voltage sags based on the concept of area of severity. In order to apply preventive measures against faults such as lightning arrester, overhead earth wires and so on, it is important to find optimal points for installing the preventive measures. The optimal points can be determined by the calculation of the area of severity(AOS) to voltage sags and the expected sag frequency per unit length of line. In this paper, an effective method to find optimal points to apply countermeasures against voltage sags is addressed with case studies.
This study attempted to establish fire risk factors and preventive measures for each of five major types of construction, focusing on construction sites. For this purpose, disaster cases were analyzed and countermeasures were prepared. In addition, fire risk factors and flammable and combustible materials by construction type according to construction process were identified and preventive measures thereof were suggested. The results of this study can be used to establish policy improvement directions that meet various educational needs and expectations by identifying the use status of flammable and combustible materials and figuring out the fire risk factors according to the process by work type in construction sites.

Coccidiosis is a major parasitic disease in the poultry industry, with great economic implications worldwide. It is a ubiquitous protozoan infection caused by several species of the genus Eimeria (host-specific) that colonize and reproduce in the intestine of birds, ultimately altering the health and performance of the flock. At present, several methods are used to diagnose coccidiosis in poultry, including field and laboratory techniques (intestinal lesion scoring, oocyst counting in feces, and biochemical and molecular diagnosis). Traditionally, diagnosed flocks have been treated either by vaccination to improve the active immunity of the birds against coccidiosis or supplementation of prophylactic anticoccidials to ameliorate the deleterious effects of coccidiosis. However, these methods has certain drawbacks such as vaccine-induced coccidiosis, drug resistance, and residual drug accumulation in the host. Consequently, alternative safe anti-coccidial agents, including the use of phytogenic compounds, have been explored for preventing coccidiosis. Here, we provide a simple overview of the literature on poultry coccidiosis by focusing on the etiology, diagnostic practices, and preventive measures.
Epidemiological models, also known as host-agent-vector-environment models, are utilized in public health to gain insights into disease occurrence and to formulate intervention strategies. In this paper, we propose an epidemiological model that incorporates both conventional measures and tobacco endgame policies. Our model suggests that conventional measures focus on relationships among agent-vector-host-environment components, whereas endgame policies inherently aim to change or eliminate those components at a fundamental level. We also found that the vector (tobacco industry) and environment (physical and social surroundings) components were insufficiently researched or controlled by both conventional measures and tobacco endgame policies. The use of an epidemiological model for tobacco control and the tobacco endgame is recommended to identify areas that require greater effort and to develop effective intervention measures.
Objectives: The validity of instruments measuring socioeconomic position (SEP) has been a major area of concern in research on cardiovascular health disparities. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify the current status of the methods used to measure SEP in research on cardiovascular health disparities in Korea and to provide directions for future research. Methods: Relevant articles were obtained through electronic database searches with manual searches of reference lists and no restriction on the date of publication. SEP indicators were categorized into compositional, contextual, composite, and life-course measures. Results: Forty-eight studies published from 2003 to 2018 satisfied the review criteria. Studies utilizing compositional measures mainly relied on a limited number of SEP parameters. In addition, these measures hardly addressed the time-varying and subjective features of SEP. Finding valid contextual measures at the organizational, community, and societal levels that are appropriate to Korea's context remains a challenge, and these are rarely modeled simultaneously. Studies have rarely focused on composite and life-course measures. Conclusions: Future studies should develop and utilize valid compositional and contextual measures and appraise social patterns that vary across time, place, and culture using such measures. Studies should also consider multilevel influences, adding a focus on the interactions between different levels of intertwined SEP factors to advance the design of research. More attention should be given to composite and life-course measures.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of an osteoporosis prevention health education on know ledge, health beliefs, self-efficacy and preventive health behaviors of women in an urban area. Methods: A one- group pre-test-post-test design was conducted to identify the effects of an osteoporosis prevention health education. The study was conducted between April and November 2008, and recruited 98 women in Seoul. All participants completed the pretest and posttest measures with self-administered questionaire: Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, Osteoporosis Health Belief Scale, Osteoporosis Self-Efficacy Scale and Osteoporosis Preventive Health Behaviors Survey. Results: The result of the paired t-test revealed statistically significant difference in the perceived susceptibility and perceived benefits of osteoporosis and osteoporosis preventive behaviors between pretest and posttest measures. However, the difference in knowledge and self-efficacy between the pretest and posttest measures was not statistically significant. Conclusions: These finding indicate the need for further health education to increase osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, self-efficacy and osteoporosis preventive health behaviors and provide guidance for developing effective osteoporosis prevention health education strategies.

The expected life of the hot stove equipments for #2 blast furnaces in Gwangyang Steel Works is about 40 years. However, the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) are founded in heat affected zone only 10 years operation. In this paper, the mechanism of SCC are investigated and the preventive measures are recommended.

In 1996, a cold-water damage occured in the paddy field at downstream of the Unmoon dam. To study the cause and the preventive measures of the cold-water damage a field study was performed during the growing season of 1997. Field measurements such as water temperatures at reservoir, irrigation canal and in the paddy field were made. As a result, there was no cold-water damage due to the right irrigation water management practice in 1997. The cold-water damage is passible to happen, however, and the preventive measures were provided.
This article explains the relationship between open-access publications and pseudo-journals, and explores their characteristics including predatory journals and journal hijackers. Pseudo-journals and pseudo-conferences cause the disruption of academic development by spreading low quality information as well as the violation of research ethics by abusing research funds. Finally, preventive measures are described from the perspective of journal authors/researchers, institutions/funding organizations, and journal editors.
