The existing underground trenchless methods use reinforcing rod in steel tube to obtain structural stiffness. However, there are some problems such as inconvenience of work and expensive material fee which are resulted from limited working space and reinforcing work. To resolve these problems, a new trenchless method, namely P.S.T method (Prestressed Segment Tunnel Method), is developed which uses joint to connect the steel segment and form erection structure in underground construction. Further, installing strands for prestressing. In order to evaluate the flexural capacity of the P.S.T method structure, experiment was conducted. The parameters considered in the experiment are the span-to-depth ratio, diameter of steel tube at corner, prestressing force and welding of joint. Altogether examining the flexural behavior, the effect of deflection in structure according to different parameters has also been analysised.

In this study, in order to asses the structural performance of trapezoidal PSC girder using a socket joint system and it is possible to calculate the optimized cross-section of the web element tests were carried out for each specimens. we conducted a socket joint performance test, web bending and shear performance tests and all tests were performed at 4 point loading method. The initial crack load of socket joint specimen was significantly lower than the reference specimen but post peak behavior was no significant differences. And the length of the loop joint of the reinforcing bars had no significant effect on the maximum load. As a web shear tests, to obtain a maximum load of the specimen has a prestressing rod reinforced at tension side. As a web flexural tests, to obtain higher diagonal cracking load in specimen of reinforced using prestressing rod than reference specimen.

Generally, a precast prestressed concrete (PSC) beam is used as girders for short-to-medium span (less than 30 m) bridges due to the advantages of simple design and construction, reduction of construction budget, maintenance convenience. In order to increase the span length beyond 50 m of precast PSC girder, PSC hollow box girder with unbonded prestressed H-type steel beam placed at the compressive region is proposed. The unbonded compressive prestressing in the H-type steel beams in the girder is made to recover plastic deflection of PSC girder when the pre-stressing is released. Also, the H-steel beams allow minimization of depth-to-length ratio of the girder by reducing the compressive region of the cross-section, thereby reducing the weight of the girder. A quasi-static 3-point bending test with 4 different loading steps is performed to verify safety and plastic deflection recovery of the girder. The experimental results showed that the maximum applied load exceeded the maximum design load and most of the plastic deflection was recovered when the compressive prestressing of H-type steel beams is released. Also using prestressed H-type steel as compression reinforcements in the upper part of cross section, repair and restoration difficulty and cost of PSC girders should be significantly reduced. The study result and analysis are discussed in detail in the paper.

Member force, strain and stress distribution of a section are obtained for prestressed steel and concrete(PSSC) composite bridge subjected to dead and live load in order to interpret the effect of prestressing and deformation of tendon. The stress and strain distribution and moment capacity are obtained for both noncomposite and composite section and for allowable stress limit state, yield limit state and strength limit state. Reliability analysis is conducted after assuming limit states for deflection, stress and flexural strength. Comparing that the reliability index for stress is near 0 for example section which is designed to satisfy the allowable stress exactly, the reliability indexes for deflection and flexural strength are high. Reliability of PSSC girder which is designed based on allowable stress of bridge design code is high for deflection and flexural strength.

Member force, strain and stress distribution of a section are obtained for optimized standard 25m~45m PSSC composite bridge subjected to dead and live load in order to interpret the effect of prestressing and deformation of tendon. The stress and strain distribution and moment capacity are obtained for both noncomposite and composite section and for allowable stress limit state, yield limit state and strength limit state. Reliability analysis is conducted after assuming limit states for stress and flexural strength. The reliability index for standard PSSC composite bridge which is designed to satisfy the allowable stress for flexural strength are higher than 3.5 which is required reliability indexes on American code for LRFD. Reliability of PSSC girder which is designed based on allowable stress of bridge design code is high for flexural strength.
This paper introduces improved prestressed concrete (PSC) girders for the railway bridges. In order to improve performance of conventional PSC girders, various types of PSC girders are either under development or have already been applied in railway bridges. Incrementally prestressed concrete girder is one of these newly developed girders. According to the design concept, these types of PSC girders have the advantages of requiring less self-weight while having the capability of longer spans. However, the tensional failure of top flange is one of the critical issues at the first prestressing stage. To effectively provide initial section stiffness of PSC girders, concrete block on the top flange is used in this study. The efficiency of the proposed structures, compared with conventional girders and improved ones, is successfully demonstrated in the example.

Numerical procedures for the geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis of prestressed concrete shell structures under tendon-induced nonconservative loads have been presented. The equivalent load approach is employed to realize the effect of prestressing tendon. In this study, the tendon-induced nonconservative loads are rigorously formulated into the load correction stiffness matrix(LCSM) taking the characteristics of Present shell element into account. Also, improved nonlinear formulations of a shell element are used by including second order rotations in the displacement field. Numerical example shows that beneficial effect on the convergence behavior can be obtained by the realistic evaluation of tangent stiffness matrix according to the present approaches.

The Sang-Jin bridge constructed by the Free Cantilever Method in 1985 is 4-span concrete rahmen bridge with a hinge at midspan. Due to the effect of creep, shrinkage of concrete and relaxation of tendon, the Sang-Jin bridge exposed the excessive displacement at midspan with the passage of time. In order to improve the load-carrying-capacity and durability of the bridge, needs to repair and rehabilitate the structure emerged. New rehabilitation methods were applied such as external prestressing of concrete box, application of pier pre-camber and steel truss jacking. Structural analysis and several tests including static load test, dynamic load test and ambient vibration test were executed to verify the improvement. The test result showed that the displacement of the midspan was improved by 10mm and it was verified that the stiffness of the bridge was increased. Totally, the load-carrying-capacity of Sang-Jin bridge was increased at least 1.56times which was attributed to the new rehabilitation method.

Serviceability resign is required to control the cracking at the joint of precast decks having longitudinal prestress in continuous composite bridges. Especially, details of twin girder bridges are complex not only due to main reinforcements and transverse prestress for the resign of long-span concrete slabs but also due to shear pockets for obtaining the composite action. This paper suggests the design guidelines for the magnitude of the effective prestress and for the selection of filling materials and their requirements in order to use precast decks for twin-girder continuous composite bridges. The necessary initial prestress was also evaluated through the long-term behavior analysis. From the analysis, existing design examples were revised and their effectiveness was estimated. When a filling material having bonding strength higher than the requirement is used in the region of high negative moment, uniform configuration of longitudinal prestressing steels along the whole span length of continuous composite bridges can be achieved resulting in simplification of details and enhancement of the construction costs.

A new earth retention system(Innovative Prestressed Wale System) has been developed and introduced. IPR earth retention system provides an economical benefit, construction easiness, good performance and safety. IPS is a prestressed wale by using a steel wire, which provides a high stiffness to resist the earth pressure. In order to investigate the applicability and the safety of new IPS system, field tests were performed. A new IPS system applied in a trench excavation performed successfully. Basic principles and mechanism of IPS system and measure performance were presented and discussed.
