  • Ensuring the designed prestress force is very important for the safety of prestressed concrete bridge. The loss of prestress force in tendon could significantly reduce load carrying capacity of the structure. In this study, an automated prestress-loss monitoring system for prestressed concrete girder using PZT-interface and wireless impedance sensor node is presented. The following approaches are carried out to achieve the objective. Firstly, wireless impedance sensor nodes are designed for automated impedance-based monitoring technique. The sensor node is mounted on the high-performance Imote2 sensor platform to fulfill high operating speed, low power requirement and large storage memory. Secondly, a smart PZT-interface designed for monitoring prestress force is described. A linear regression model is established to predict prestress-loss. Finally, a system of the PZT-interface interacted with the wireless sensor node is evaluated from a lab-scale tendon-anchorage connection of a prestressed concrete girder.

  • This study was carried out to find out the reasonable optimum design method for the design of prestressed concrete structures. The optimum design problems were formulated and computer programs to solve these problems were developed. To test the reliablity, efficiency, possibility of application and reasonablity of optimum design problems and computer programs, both continuous optimization method and mixed-discrete optimization method were applied to the design of prestressed concrete composite girder and application results were discussed. It is proved that mixed-discrete optimization method is more reliable, efficient and reasonable than continuous optimization method for the optimum design of prestressed concrete structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish and examine the analytical methods based on FEA to predict the behavior of the precast prestressed concrete panels under blast loading. The precast prestressed concrete structures are on the rise, but there is little research in this regard explosion. In this paper, we set the variable to the three models. TNT 500 kg was an explosion in the standoff-distance 3m. In conclusion, the precast models damage was concentrated in the bonded portion. The concrete panels after an explosion occurred continuously deformed. But the including prestressed panels deformation occurs only at the beginning of the explosion were able to see the results.

  • This study investigates the flexural behavior and strengthening performance of RC beams strengthened by prestressed CFRP laminates through static bending tests. Tests on RC beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP laminates were carried out for both cases where the CFRP laminates were bonded or not and the corresponding effects on the strengthening performances of RC beams were examined. Experimental results revealed that RC beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP laminates presented increased crack load and yield load according to the level of prestress. Premature debonding occurred before the RC beam strengthened with bonded prestressed CFRP laminates reaches the maximum load, and the specimen presented similar behavior to the one exhibited by the specimen with unbonded laminates.

  • Using OpenSees as a framework, constitutive models of reinforced, prestressed and prestressed steel fiber concrete found by the panel tests have been implemented into a finite element program called Simulation of Concrete Structures (SCS) to predict the seismic behavior of shear-critical reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The developed finite element program was validated by tests on prestressed steel fiber concrete beams under monotonic loading, post tensioned precast concrete column under reversed cyclic loading, framed shear walls under reversed cyclic loading or shaking table excitations, and a seven-story wall building under shake table excitations. The comparison of analytical results with test outcomes indicates good agreement.

  • This paper presents a formulation to include the prestressing effects in available numerical models for the nonlinear material, instantaneous and long-term analysis of prestressed concrete shell structures, based on the displacement formulation of the finite element method. A four-node flat shell element is adopted for nonlinear analysis of prestressed concrete shells. This element was incorporated into an existing general-purpose finite element analysis program. A distinctive characteristic of the element is its capability to simulate the behavior of shells subjected to a variety of types of loading and drilling rotational stiffness. Consequently, the response of prestressed concrete shell structures can be predicted accurately using the proposed nonlinear finite element procedure.

  • In this paper, a series of fracture tests are performed for the chemically prestressed steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) manufactured with addition of expansive additives for the study of fracture behavior and characteristics. Cracking loads of the chemically prestressed SFRC are greater than that of normal concrete and those are also increased by increasing of steel fiber volume. Thus, it is necessary to obtain optimum steel fiber volume to induce chemically prestressing effectively to concrete members. The result of three-points bending tests shows that early-cracking resistance of the chemically prestressed SFRC is increased without increase of fracture energy. From the test, the tension softening curves are also obtained by poly-linear approximation method and simulated behaviors by using the determined tension softening curves agree with experimental results. And it is confirmed that cracking and ultimate behaviors of chemically prestressed SFRC can be predicted by using obtained fracture characteristics.

  • This research aims to estimate the shear strength of the composition of prestressed hollow-core slab and steel beam. The shear strength of prestressed hollow-core slab combined with the steel beam decreases, as the beam deflection increases to a considerable extent. Existing studies on the shear strength of prestressed hollow-core slab are mostly limited to 265mrn- and larger thickness slab on concrete beam. This study investigates the slab of 100mm-thickness combined with steel beam instead of concrete beam. Five shear connector methods are proposed and the shear strength is estimated with or without the beam deflection for each composition method, respectively. Finally the reduction coefficient $(\beta)$ for the transverse shear stress$(\tau_{zx})$, which is critical for the failure of prestressed hollow-core slab, is proposed.

  • An analytical model with tension softening for the prediction of the capacity of prestressed concrete beams under pure torsion and under torsion combined with shear and flexure is introduced. The proposed approach employs bilinear stress-strain relationship with post cracking tension softening branch for the concrete in tension and special failure criteria for biaxial stress states. Further, for the solution of the governing equations a special numerical scheme is adopted which can be applied to elements with practically any cross-section since it utilizes a numerical mapping. The proposed method is mainly applied to plain prestressed concrete elements, but is also applicable to prestressed concrete beams with light transverse reinforcement. The aim of the present work is twofold; first, the validation of the approach by comparison between experimental results and analytical predictions and second, a parametrical study of the influence of concentric and eccentric prestressing on the torsional capacity of concrete elements and the interaction between torsion and shear for various levels of prestressing. The results of this investigation presented in the form of interaction curves, are compared to experimental results and code provisions.

  • The failure load of a continuous prestressed concrete beam depends partially on the amount of redistribution of moment that occurs prior to failure. Results from a parametric study, carried out using a nonlinear finite element computer program, are presented to demonstrate the influences of various factors on redistribution of moment in two-span, continuous bonded prestressed concrete beams. Trends in the data from the numerical studies are compared with those from a theoretical expression for percentage of redistribution, and it is shown that the redistribution of moment occurring in a continuous prestressed concrete beam is a function of number of parameters.
