Evaluation of the Preirradiation Baseline Material Characteristics for Yonggwang Nuclear Reactor Pressure Vessel (영광 원자력 발전소 원자로 소재의 가동전 재료 물성 특성)

  • Nuclear reactor pressure vessel should be safety even in the case that hypothetical defects with allowable size are in vessel. Therefore, the materials should have excellent fracture resistance characteristics. The purpose of this study is to analyze the results of preirradiation baseline test of nuclear pressure vessel for Yonggwang Unit 5/6. In experiments, drop weight tests and impact tests are carried out to obtain nil-ductility transition reference temperature, $RT_{NDT}$ and static and dynamic fracture toughness tests are performed to compare with $K_{IR}$ curve in accordance with ASME Sec.III. The test results show that the materials had sufficiently fracture resistance characteristics for 40 years of design life.

Analysis on Actual Condition of Usage and Safety Management for CNG Pressure Vessel in Bus (CNG버스 내압용기 사용 및 안전관리 실태 분석)

  • There are about 38,977 CNG cars and 247 natural gas vehicle charging stations in operation in order to improve the urban air environment. With the introduction of natural gas vehicles, the atmospheric environment, which was the main cause of air pollution in the metropolitan area, was remarkably improved. However, unlike these positive effects, CNG bus accidents, which occurred more than 10 times since 2005, have caused concern among the majority of citizens using public transportation. It is necessary to make a judgment on the feasibility and future direction of CNG pressure vessel safety management that can safeguard the safety of CNG pressure vessel at the time of starting. In this study, we investigates production and use of CNG vessel, the current status of safety management of CNG bus transportation companies & charging stations and then proposes measures to prevent accident recurrence and safety management based on the actual situation investigation and analysis.

Degradation Evaluation of High Pressure Reactor Vessel in field Using Electrical Resistivity Method (전기비저항법을 이용한 고압반응기 열화도 현장평가)

  • Because explosive fluid is used at high temperature or under high pressure in petrochemistry and refined oil equipment, the interest about safety of equipments is intensive. Specially, the safety of high pressure reactor vessel is required among them. The material selected in this study is 2.25Cr-1Mo steel that is widely used for high pressure reactor vessel material of petrochemical plant. Eight kinds of artificially aged specimens were prepared by differing from aging periods under three different temperatures. The material was iso-thermally heat treated at higher temperatures than $391^{\circ}C$ that is the operating temperature of high pressure reactor vessel. Vickers hardness properties and electrical resistivity properties about artificially aged material as well as un-aged material were measured, and master curves were made out from the correlation with larson-Miller parameter. And electrical resistivity properties as well as Victors hardness properties measured at high pressure reactor vessel of the field were compared with master curves made out in a laboratory. Degradation evaluation possibility in the field of high pressure reactor vessel by using electrical resistivity method was examined. Electrical resistivity property measured in the field is similar with that of artificially aged material in similar aging level.

Effect of Kimchi Materials on the Gas Formation and Vessel Pressure during Storage (재료조성이 김치의 저장 중 가스발생과 용기압력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of sub-ingredients of kimchi on the formation of carbon dioxide and vessel pressure. The pH, titratable acidity, formation of carbon dioxide and vessel pressure of kimchi prepared with different sub-ingredients were determined during storage at 10$^{\circ}C$. In the kimhi without GA, the pH decrease and acidity increase was slow during storage, but those of the kimchis without Gl, RP and SA were began to higher from 3th day after storage showed maximum values and was maintained 9th day after storage. The main sub-ingredient for formation of carbon dioxide was garlic and the gas formation was low in the kimchi without garlic. Vessel pressure in kimchi of the latter term of storage generally showed sub-atmospheric pressure and the more formation of carbon dioxide showed the more degree of sub-atmosphere.

  • One area in which composites have been used rather extensively is for fabricating pressure vessel. These structures can be readily manufactured by filament winding, which is, as far as composite fabrication techniques are concerned, a relatively inexpensive method for producing composite structures. Unfortunately, the higher strength material and fabrication costs are not the only disadvantages of fiber-reinforced polymer composites when they are compared to metals. Additionally, these materials tend to exhibit brittle behavior. This is of particular concern when they are subjected to a low-velocity impact during routine handling a significant amount of structural damage can be introduced into the composites. The goals of this paper are to understand the impact damage behavior and identify the effect of surface coating materials on impact resistance in filament wound composite pressure vessels. For these, a series of low velocity impact tests was performed on specimens cutting from the full scale pressure vessel by the instrumented impact testing machine. The specimens are classified into two types with and without surface protective material. The visualization for impact damage is made by metallurgical microscope. Based on the impact force history and damage, the resistance parameters were employed and its validity in identifying the damage resistance of pressure vessel was reviewed. As the results, the impact resistance of the filament wound composites and its dependency on the protective material were evaluated quantitatively.

High Temperature Tensile Stress Behavior of Hydrogen Vessel Composite Materials for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus (수소버스용 내압용기 복합재의 열적환경에 따른 기계적 물성 연구)

  • In this study, the mechanical properties of the pressure vessel composite exposed to the thermal environment were evaluated to establish the standard for high temperature static pressure test of the pressure vessel for hydrogen bus. As the tensile strength of the composite material approaches the glass transition temperature of the epoxy resin, the strength decreases due to the deterioration of the epoxy resin. In addition, it was confirmed that the tensile strength increased again due to the post-curing of the epoxy resin during long-term exposure. Therefore, the accelerated stress rupture test conditions of the pressure vessel for the hydrogen bus should be set based on the epoxy resin properties of the carbon fiber composite material.

  • A hybridized simulator for generating blood pressure waveform is proposed to study the remedy and/or evaluation of the conventional sphygmomanometer utilizing the oscillometric method which is widely applied. The blood pressure of a flowing fluid was controlled for the blood vessel's condition caused by a rhythmical and periodical contraction/relaxation because of the special excitatory and conductive system of the heart. In this study, a hybridized controller composed of the PI feedback controller and the feedforward controller. The inverse dynamics function is proposed to operating the control valve while the pressure is applied in an oil pressure tank. The proposed hybrid simulator reproducing the blood pressure waveform in an artificial blood vessel has kept the control performance consistent over all range. Based on these results, the proposed simulators could be applied to the development and compensation of the non invasive sphygmomanometer type as well as to study the characteristics of the blood pressure and blood vessel.

  • As a container vessel becomes larger, the bow flare becomes larger. The large bow flare structures are often subjected to dynamic pressure loads due to bow flare slamming occurring in rough seas. The aim of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of bow flare slamming pressure measured in a real voyage through the North Pacific Ocean. The characteristics of impact pressure load caused by slamming is addressed in terms of the pressure pulse-time history which involves rising time, peak pressure, decaying time and type of pressure decay. The values were presented using non-dimensional parameters.

  • This paper describes the nonlinear analyses of a 1:4 scale model of a prestressed concrete containment vessel (PCCV) using an axisymmetric model and a three-dimensional model. These two models are refined by comparison of the analysis results and with testing results. This paper is especially focused on the analysis of behavior under pressure and the temperature effects revealed using an axisymmetric model. The temperature-dependent degradation properties of concrete and steel are considered. Both geometric and material nonlinearities, including thermal effects, are also addressed in the analyses. The Menetrey and Willam (1995) concrete constitutive model with non-associated flow potential is adopted for this study. This study includes the results of the predicted thermal and mechanical behaviors of the PCCV subject to high temperature loading and internal pressure at the same time. To find the effect of high temperature accident conditions on the ultimate capacity of the liner plate, reinforcement, prestressing tendon and concrete, two kinds of analyses are performed: one for pressure only and the other for pressure with temperature. The results from the test on pressurization, analysis for pressure only, and analyses considering pressure with temperatures are compared with one another. The analysis results show that the temperature directly affects the behavior of the liner plate, but has little impact on the ultimate pressure capacity of the PCCV.

Effect of postulated crack location on the pressure-temperature limit curve of reactor pressure vessel

  • In accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code Sec.XI Appendix. G, a postulated crack is located at the beltline of a reactor pressure vessel because the neutron flux at the beltline is higher than elsewhere. This means that the distance between the core and the semi-spherical bottom head is longer than the distance between the core and the cylindrical beltline. However, several Small and Medium sized Reactors have bottom heads with diverse shapes, including dished or semi-elliptical shapes, to satisfy the requirement and performance. So, the aim of this paper is to evaluate the effect of crack location on Pressure-Temperature limit curve. To do this, two types of postulated crack location, such as beltline and semi-elliptical bottom head, were adopted to derive the Pressure-Temperature limit curve. Also, parametric studies for neutron flux, crack shape and so on were performed. As a result, core critical temperature of semi-elliptical bottom head is found to higher than that of beltline even when they have same values of thickness and neutron flux. This result will be useful to enhance the understanding of Pressure-Temperature limit curve.
